BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Domenedio, padre e signoreggiatore della vita mia, non mi lasciare nel consiglio (sconsiderato) di coloro, e non mi lasciar cadere in quella vergogna (e improperio).	1 Lord, father and master of my life, do not abandon me to their whims, do not let me fal because ofthem.
2 Or chi darae alli miei pensieri flagelli, e al cuor mio dottrina di sapienza, acciò che non mi risparmino nelle orazioni (d' essere corretto nel pensiero e ammaestrato nel cuore), e non appariscano li peccati loro,	2 Who wil lay whips to my thoughts, and the discipline of wisdom to my heart, to be merciless to myerrors and not let my sins go unchecked,
3 e non crescano le ignoranze mie, e non moltìplichino li falli miei, e non abbondino li peccati miei, e non caggi nel conspetto delli avversarii miei, e allègrisene lo nimico mio?	3 for fear my errors should multiply and my sins then abound and I fal before my adversaries, and myenemy gloat over me?
4 Signore, padre e Iddio della vita mia, non mi lasciare nel pensiero loro.	4 Lord, father and God of my life, do not let my eyes be proud,
5 E non mi dare nello alzamento degli occhi miei, e ogni desiderio isvolgi di me.	5 turn envy away from me,
6 Togli da me le concupiscenze del ventre, li congiugamenti della concupiscenza non mi piglino, e non mi dare a niuno irridente nè isfrenato.	6 do not let lechery and lust grip me, do not leave me a prey to shameless desire.
7 Udite, figliuoli, la dottrina della bocca mia; e chi la osserverà, non perirà per la bocca sua, non sarà scandalizzato nell' opere iniquissime.	7 Children, listen to what I teach, no one who keeps it wil be caught out.
8 Nella vanitade sua è preso il peccatore; e il superbo e il maldicente si scandalizzerae in quello.	8 The sinner is ensnared by his own lips, both the abusive and the proud are tripped by them.
9 Non adusare la bocca tua a giurare, però che molto cadimento è in quello.	9 Do not get into the habit of swearing, do not make a habit of naming the Holy One;
10 Il nominare Iddio non sia continuo nella bocca tua, e in tutti santi non ti mescolare; però che non sarai sanza pena da loro.	10 for just as a slave who is constantly overseen wil never be without bruises, so someone who is alwaysswearing and uttering the Name wil not be exempt from sin.
11 Sì come il servo, richiesto spesso, non è invidiato, così ciascuno che giurerae e nominerae, in tutto non sarae sanza peccato.	11 A man for ever swearing is full of iniquity, and the scourge wil not depart from his house. If he offends,his sin wil be on him, if he did it unheedingly, he has doubly sinned; if he swears a false oath, he wil not betreated as innocent, for his house wil be fil ed with calamities.
12 L'uomo che molto giura, si riempierae di iniquitade; e la piaga non si partirae dalla casa di colui.	12 One way of talking is like death, let it not be found in the heritage of Jacob since devout people havenothing to do with that: they wil not wal ow in sin.
13 E se elli ingannerae (il prossimo), il peccato suo sarae sopra lui; e se egli s' infignerae, peccherà doppiamente.	13 Do not get into the habit of using coarse and foul language since this involves sinful words.
14 E se a vòto giurerae, non fia giustificato; la casa sua si riempierae di pessimo merito.	14 Remember your father and mother when you are sitting with the great, for fear you forget yourself intheir presence and behave like a fool, and then wish you had not been born and curse the day of your birth.
15 Ed è un altro parlare contrario (che chi l'userae) nella morte; non si troverà nella eredità di Iacob.	15 No one in the habit of using shameful language wil break himself of it as long as he lives.
16 Però questi parlari tutti si tolgano dalli misericordiosi; e non si convolgano nelli peccati,	16 There are two types of people who commit sin after sin and a third who attracts retribution-
17 Non adusare al parlare disordinato la bocca tua; però che in quello è parola di peccato.	17 desire, blazing like a furnace, wil not die down until it has been sated- the man who lusts aftermembers of his own family is not going to stop until he is quite burnt out; every food is sweet to the promiscuous,and he wil not desist until he dies;
18 Ricòrdati del padre e della madre tua, però che nel mezzo stai de' grandi,	18 and the man who sins against the marriage bed and says to himself, 'Who can see me? There isdarkness all round me, the wal s hide me, no one can see me, why should I worry? The Most High wil notremember my sins.'
19 acciò che non dimentichi di te Iddio nel conspetto di coloro, e impazzato dalla tua continuanza sostegni rimproperio, e averesti voluto inanzi non essere nato, e maledichi il dì della tua nativitade.	19 What he fears are human eyes, he does not realise that the eyes of the Lord are ten thousand timesbrighter than the sun, observing every aspect of human behaviour, seeing into the most secret corners.
20 L'uomo accostumato alle parole del rimproperio, in tutti li dì della vita sua non fia ammaestrato.	20 Al things were known to him before they were created, and are stil , now that they are finished.
21 Due generazioni abondano nelli peccati, e la terza generazione adduce ira e perdizione.	21 This man will be punished in view of the whole town, and wil be seized when he least expects it.
22 L'anima maliziosa sì è come fuoco ardente; non si spegne infino a tanto che alcuna cosa inghiottisca.	22 Similarly the woman unfaithful to her husband, who provides him with an heir by another man:
23 E l'uomo malvagio nella bocca della carne sua non cesserà, insino a tanto che accenderà il fuoco.	23 first, she has disobeyed the Law of the Most High; secondly, she has been false to her husband; andthirdly, she has gone whoring in adultery
24 All' uomo fornicario ogni pane è dolce; e non rincrescerae (infino) ch' elli peccherà infino alla fine.	24 and conceived children by another man. She will be led before the assembly, an enquiry will be heldabout her children.
25 Ogni uomo che travarica il letto suo, dispregiando nell' anima sua, e dicendo: or chi mi vede?	25 Her children wil strike no root, her branches wil bear no fruit.
26 Le tenebre attorniano me, e le pareti mi cuoprono, e niuno mi vede; cui temo? l' Altissimo non si ricorderà de' miei peccati.	26 She wil leave an accursed memory behind her, her shame wil never be wiped out.
27 E non intende che l'occhio di colui vede tutte le cose, e ch' elli caccia da sè lo timore di Dio: or che paura è questa di quello cotale uomo? e li occhi di colui temono tutti.	27 And those who survive her wil recognise that nothing is better than fearing the Lord, and nothingsweeter than adherence to the Lord's commandments.
28 E non intese, che gli occhi di Dio sono molto più lucenti sopra il sole, ragguardando tutte le vie degli uomini, il profondo del mare e il cuore dentro delli uomini (i quali guardano tutte le cose) nelle parti secrete.
29 Al Signore Iddio, inanzi che le cose fussono create, furono conosciute da lui; e così, poi che furono fatte, vede tutte le cose.
30 Questo sarà giudicato nelle piazze della cittàde; e come puledro sarà cacciato, e dove non spererae sarà preso.
31 E sarae vituperio di tutti, però che non averae inteso il timore di Dio.
32 Così ogni femina che lascerà il marito suo, e ordinerae la ereditade da altro marito,
33 primamente fu incredibile nella legge dello Altissimo; e appresso lascioe il marito suo; poi fornicò in adulterio, e d' altro marito ordinoe a sè figliuoli.
34 Costei fia menata nella chiesa, e nelli suoi figliuoli sarà veduta.
35 Li figliuoli suoi non faranno radici, e li rami suoi non faranno frutto.
36 Ma lasceranno in maledizione (l'anima sua
37 E conosceranno coloro che rimarranno, che nulla è meglio che il timore di Dio, e nulla è più dolce che guardare li comandamenti di Dio.
38 Grande gloria è seguire Iddio; però che lunghezza di dì si riceverà da lui.
