1 Ma apparecchia del tuo pane a coloro che passano per la strada; e (poi che tu il crederai avere perduto) sì lo ritroverai dopo molto tempo.	1 Cast thy bread upon the running waters: for after a long time thou shalt find it again.
2 Dà sette volte del tuo, dànne otto; imperciò che tu non sai il male che deve venire.	2 Give a portion to seven, and also to eight: for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.
3 Se le nuvole saranno cariche d'acqua, sappi ch' elle pioveranno. Di poi che lo legno è caduto, in buono luogo o in reo, ivi sta fermo, (e non si muove).	3 If the clouds be full, they will pour out rain upon the earth. If the tree fall to the south, or to the north, in what place soever it shall fall, there shall it be.
4 Chi attende il vento, non seminerà; e chi ha paura de' nuvoli', non ricoglierà (a buona stagione).	4 He that observeth the wind, shall not sow: and he that considereth the clouds, shall never reap.
5 Però che tu non sai la via del vento (o della vita), e come si congiungono l' ossa del fanciullo nel corpo della madre, (non si sa però che) non si puote sapere l'opera di Dio, il quale sì è fabbricatore di tutte le cose.	5 As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones are joined together in the womb of her that is with child: so thou knowest not the works of God, who is the maker of all.
6 Comincia a seminare per tempo, e ancora se il farai al vespero, farai bene; però che non sai quale è il meglio; e se ciascuno nasce, tanto è meglio.	6 In the morning sow thy seed, and In the evening let not thy hand cease: for thou knowest not which may rather spring up, this or that: and if both together, it shall be the better.
7 Dolce cosa è il lume, e dilettevole è il sole a vedere.	7 The light is sweet, and it is delightful for the eyes to see the sun.
8 Se l'uomo vivesse molti anni, e in tutti avesse letizia (e allegrezza), non si deve però dimenticare delle tenebre pericolose dello inferno; anche si deve ricordare de' molti tempi buoni (e modi di paradiso); ne' quali chi sarà ripensi i tempi passati, e che sieno usciti pieni di vanitadi.	8 If a man live many years, and have rejoiced in them all, he must remember the darksome time, and the many days: which when they shall come, the things past shall be accused of vanity.
9 Allègrati dunque, o giovane, in tua giovinezza, e poni il tuo cuore in buone cose; (però che) sì va alla via diritta nelli dì della giovinezza tua, e va nella via del cuore tuo, e nella veduta delli occhi tuoi; e sappi che per tutte queste cose Iddio ti conducerà nel giudicio.	9 Rejoice therefore, O young man, in thy youth, and let thy heart be in that which is good in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thy heart, and in the sight of thy eyes: and know that for all these God will bring thee into judgment.
10 Togli via l'ira del cuore tuo, e rimuovi la malizia della carne tua; però che la giovinezza e il desiderio sono cose vane.	10 Remove anger from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh. For youth and pleasure are vain.
