Proverbi 9

BIBBIA VOLGARE	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 La sapienza (cioè Cristo) ha edificato a sè la casa (cioè la chiesa de' fedeli), e hagli fondato sette colonne (cioè i dottori e predicatori, dotati di sette doni del Spirito Santo).	1 Wisdom has built a house for herself. She has hewn seven columns.
2 Ha fatto i suoi sacrificii (per la morte sua e degli suoi santi), mischiò il vino, e puose la mensa (per la instituzion del sacramento di corpo e sangue di Cristo).	2 She has immolated her victims. She has mixed her wine and set forth her table.
3 Mandò le ancille sue (gli apostoli e predicatori) acciò clamassero tutti all' arce (del cielo) e alle mura della città (celeste):	3 She has sent her maids to call out to the tower and to the fortified walls of the city,
4 Se alcuno è umile, venga a me. E ha parlato agli ignoranti:	4 “If anyone is little, let him come to me.” And to the unwise, she has said:
5 Venite (pueri) e mangiate il mio pane, e bevete il vino il quale vi ho meschiato (per intelligenza dei misterii sono nelle scritture sante).	5 “Approach. Eat my bread, and drink the wine that I have mixed for you.
6 Lasciate le opere e vanità mondane, e vivete; e andate per le vie de' prudenti (operando quello sia giusto e retto).	6 Leave behind childishness. And live and walk by the ways of prudence.”
7 Colui che ammaestra quello che dileggia i documenti de' savii, fa ingiuria a sè (ponendo le cose preziose dinanzi a' cani e porci); e quello ammaestra l'empio, genera a sè infamia (per esser consueto a tali di infamar gli uomini virtuosi).	7 Whoever teaches a mocker causes injury to himself. And whoever argues with the impious produces a blemish on himself.
8 Non ammaestrar questi tali uomini mali (incorriggibili) per che ti aranno in odio (e sarà cagione che si facci peggiore, provocandolo ad odio); ma ammaestra chi vuole essere ammaestrato, e quelli ti amerà.	8 Do not be willing to argue with a mocker, lest he hate you. Dispute with the wise, and he will love you.
9 Dà allo imitatore della sapienza occasione di sapere, e farassi più intelligente; ammaestra il giusto, e quello procurerà di sapere.	9 Present an opportunity to the wise, and wisdom shall be added to him. Teach the just, and he will hurry to receive it.
10 Il principio della sapienza è il timor di Dio; e la scienza de' santi è prudenza (per la qual si cognosce quello si de' operare e quello si de' fuggire).	10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of holiness is prudence.
11 Per me certamente (dice la sapienza) ti saranno multiplicati i tuoi dì (cioè le virtù, per le quali serai illuminato), e saranti accresciuti gli anni della vita (per che ti sarà data vita eterna).	11 For by me, your days will be multiplied and years of life will be added to you.
12 Se tu sarai savio, a te gioverai; se sarai dileggiatore, solo arai il male.	12 If you would be wise, you will be so for yourself. But if you would be one who ridicules, you alone shall carry the evil.
13 La femina pazza, abundante di parole vane, piena di prave delettazioni, la qual niente intende di veritade,	13 A foolish and loud woman, who is full of enticements and who knows nothing at all,
14 sedè nelle porte della casa sua sopra una sedia (la qual non ha appoggio alcuno dintorno, dove si possi appoggiare) nel luogo eminente della città	14 sat at the entrance of her house on a seat, in a high place of the city,
15 acciò possi clamare quelli passano per via (e ridurli alle pessime delettazioni sue, e dice):	15 so as to call to those who were passing by the way and continuing on their journey:
16 Chi è quello abbi poco sentimento, declini (e venga) a me. E parlò al stulto (e disse):	16 “Whoever is little, let him turn aside to me.” And to the frenzied, she said,
17 Le acque furtive (le quali sono le delettazioni proibite) sono più dolci, e il pane ascosto è più soave; (per le quali parole cerca di trarlo alla delettazione carnale).	17 “Stolen waters are more soothing, and secret bread is more pleasant.”
18 E non sa quello è chiamato, che al luogo dove va vi sono giganti (cioè diavoli), e i conviti di quella nel profondo dello inferno, (e chi si parte da quella sarà salvo).	18 And he did not know that giants are there, and that her companions are in the depths of Hell.
