Primeira Epístola a Timóteo 2

1 Acima de tudo, recomendo que se façam preces, orações, súplicas, ações de graças por todos os homens,	1 And so I beg you, first of all, to make supplications, prayers, petitions, and thanksgivings for all men,
2 pelos reis e por todos os que estão constituídos em autoridade, para que possamos viver uma vida calma e tranqüila, com toda a piedade e honestidade.	2 for kings, and for all who are in high places, so that we may lead a quiet and tranquil life in all piety and chastity.
3 Isto é bom e agradável diante de Deus, nosso Salvador,	3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
4 o qual deseja que todos os homens se salvem e cheguem ao conhecimento da verdade.	4 who wants all men to be saved and to arrive at an acknowledgment of the truth.
5 Porque há um só Deus e há um só mediador entre Deus e os homens: Jesus Cristo, homem	5 For there is one God, and one mediator of God and of men, the man Christ Jesus,
6 que se entregou como resgate por todos. Tal é o fato, atestado em seu tempo;	6 who gave himself as a redemption for all, as a testimony in its proper time.
7 e deste fato - digo a verdade, não minto - fui constituído pregador, apóstolo e doutor dos gentios, na fé e na verdade.	7 Of this testimony, I have been appointed a preacher and an Apostle, (I speak the truth, I do not lie) as a teacher of the Gentiles, in faith and in truth.
8 Quero, pois, que os homens orem em todo lugar, levantando as mãos puras, superando todo ódio e ressentimento.	8 Therefore, I want men to pray in every place, lifting up pure hands, without anger or dissension.
9 Do mesmo modo, quero que as mulheres usem traje honesto, ataviando-se com modéstia e sobriedade. Seus enfeites consistam não em primorosos penteados, ouro, pérolas, vestidos de luxo,	9 Similarly also, women should be dressed fittingly, adorning themselves with compunction and restraint, and not with plaited hair, nor gold, nor pearls, nor costly attire,
10 e sim em boas obras, como convém a mulheres que professam a piedade.	10 but in a manner proper for women who are professing piety by means of good works.
11 A mulher ouça a instrução em silêncio, com espírito de submissão.	11 Let a woman learn in silence with all subjection.
12 Não permito à mulher que ensine nem que se arrogue autoridade sobre o homem, mas permaneça em silêncio.	12 For I do not permit a woman to teach, nor to be in authority over a man, but to be in silence.
13 Pois o primeiro a ser criado foi Adão, depois Eva.	13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve.
14 E não foi Adão que se deixou iludir, e sim a mulher que, enganada, se tornou culpada de transgressão.	14 And Adam was not seduced, but the woman, having been seduced, was in transgression.
15 Contudo, ela poderá salvar-se, cumprindo os deveres de mãe, contanto que permaneça com modéstia na fé, na caridade e na santidade.	15 Yet she will be saved by bearing children, if she has continued in faith and love, and in sanctification accompanied by self-restraint.
