1 Si presentarono poi i capi famiglia dei leviti al sacerdote Eleazaro, a Giosuè, figlio di Nun e ai capi famiglia delle tribù dei figli d'Israele,	1 The heads of families of the Levites then came to the priest, Eleazar, Joshua son of Nun and theheads of families of the tribes of Israel-
2 e parlarono loro a Silo in terra di Canaan, così: "Il Signore comandò per mezzo di Mosè di darci delle città per abitarvi e i loro dintorni per i nostri greggi".	2 they were then at Shiloh in Canaan. They said to them, 'Through Moses, Yahweh ordered us to begiven towns to live in, with their pasture lands for our livestock.'
3 E i figli d'Israele dettero ai leviti, dalle loro porzioni, secondo le disposizioni del Signore, queste città con i loro dintorni.	3 In compliance with Yahweh's order, the Israelites consequently and from their own heritage gave theLevites the fol owing towns with their pasture lands:
4 Uscì la sorte per la famiglia dei Keatiti; fra i leviti, ai figli del sacerdote Aronne toccarono in sorte tredici città nella tribù di Giuda, nella tribù di Simeone e nella tribù di Beniamino;	4 Lots were cast for the clans of the Kohathites: to those Levites who were sons of Aaron the priest, felthirteen towns from the tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin;

8 Così i figli d'Israele sorteggiarono fra i leviti queste città con i loro pascoli, come aveva disposto il Signore per mezzo di Mosè.	8 The Israelites assigned these towns and their pasture lands to the Levites by lot, as Yahweh hadordered through Moses.
9 Essi dettero dalla tribù dei figli di Giuda e dalla tribù dei figli di Simeone quelle città di cui vengono ricordati i nomi;	9 From the tribe of Judah and the tribe of Simeon, they gave the towns named below.
10 questa fu la porzione per i figli di Aronne, appartenenti alle famiglie levitiche dei Keatiti, per i quali infatti fu estratto il primo sorteggio.	10 The first portion was for the sons of Aaron, belonging to the clans of the Kohathites, to the sons ofLevi, since the first lot was theirs.
11 Furono date loro: Kiriat-Arba, padre di Anak, cioè Ebron, sui monti di Giuda, e i pascoli circostanti.	11 They gave them Kiriath-Arba, Anak's father's town -- now Hebron -- in the highlands of Judah, with itssurrounding pasture lands.
12 Ma i campi della città e i villaggi d'intorno furono dati a Caleb, figlio di Iefunne, in sua proprietà.	12 The fields and vil ages of this town, however, they gave to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his property.

15 Debir e i suoi pascoli, Olon e i suoi pascoli,	15 Holon with its pasture lands, Debir with its pasture lands,
16 Ain e i suoi pascoli, Iutta e i suoi pascoli, Bet-Semes e i suoi pascoli: nove città di quelle due tribù.	16 Ashan with its pasture lands, Juttah with its pasture lands, and Beth-Shemesh with its pasture lands:nine towns taken from these two tribes;
17 Della tribù di Beniamino: Gabaon e i suoi pascoli, Gheba e i suoi pascoli,	17 and, from the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with its pasture lands, Geba with its pasture lands,

20 Alle famiglie dei leviti figli di Keat, cioè agli altri figli di Keat, furono assegnate per sorteggio alcune città nella tribù di Efraim;	20 As regards the clans of the sons of Kohath, those Levites stil left of the sons of Kohath, the towns oftheir lot were taken from the tribe of Ephraim.
21 fu data loro, come città di rifugio per l'omicida, Sichem e i suoi pascoli sui monti di Efraim; poi Ghezer e i suoi pascoli,	21 They were given Shechem, a city of refuge for those who had kil ed, with its pasture lands, in thehighlands of Ephraim, as wel as Gezer with its pasture lands,

24 Aialon e i suoi pascoli, Gat-Rimmon e i suoi pascoli: quattro città.	24 Aijalon with its pasture lands and Gath-Rimmon with its pasture lands: four towns;
25 Nella mezza tribù di Manasse: Taanach e i suoi pascoli, Ibleam e i suoi pascoli: due città.	25 and, from the half-tribe of Manasseh, Taanach with its pasture lands and Jibleam with its pasturelands: two towns.

40 In tutto, le città sorteggiate per i figli di Merari, cioè alle restanti famiglie dei leviti, furono dodici.	40 Total number of towns forming the lot of the sons of Merari by clans, of the remaining levitical clans:twelve towns.
41 In tutto, le città dei leviti in mezzo alla proprietà dei figli d'Israele furono quarantotto città con i loro pascoli;	41 The total number of towns for the Levites in Israelite territory was forty-eight towns with their pasture lands.
42 ciascuna di queste città comprendeva la città e i pascoli intorno ad essa: così era di tutte quelle città.	42 These towns consisted in each case of the town itself and the pasture land round it. This was thecase with all the towns.
43 Così il Signore dette a Israele tutta la terra che aveva giurato di dare ai loro padri; essi la conquistarono e vi si stabilirono.	43 This was how Yahweh gave the Israelites the entire country which he had sworn to give to theirancestors. They took possession of it and settled in it.
44 Il Signore dette loro riposo tutt'intorno, secondo quanto aveva giurato ai loro padri; nessuno poté resistere loro fra tutti i loro nemici: il Signore consegnò in loro potere tutti i loro nemici.	44 Yahweh granted them tranquil ity on all their frontiers just as he had sworn to their ancestors and, ofal their enemies, not one succeeded in resisting them. Yahweh put al their enemies at their mercy.
45 Non fallì una sola cosa di tutte le buone promesse che il Signore aveva fatto alla casa d'Israele: tutto si compì.	45 Of al the promises that Yahweh had made to the House of Israel, not one failed; al were fulfilled.
