1 "Signore onnipotente, Dio di Israele, un'anima in angoscia ed uno spirito angustiato grida verso di te.	1 "LORD Almighty, God of Israel, afflicted souls and dismayed spirits call to you.
2 Ascolta, o Signore, e abbi pietà, poiché abbiamo peccato contro di te;	2 Hear, O LORD, for you are a God of mercy; and have mercy on us, who have sinned against you:
3 perché tu rimani in eterno, mentre noi periamo per sempre.	3 for you are enthroned forever, while we are perishing forever.
4 O Signore onnipotente, Dio di Israele, ascolta la preghiera dei morti d'Israele e dei figli di coloro che hanno peccato contro di te, non avendo ascoltato la voce del Signore, Dio loro, per cui i mali si sono attaccati a noi.	4 LORD Almighty, God of Israel, hear the prayer of Israel's few, the sons of those who sinned against you; they did not heed the voice of the LORD, their God, and the evils cling to us.
5 Non ricordare l'ingiustizia dei nostri padri: ricorda, invece, la tua mano e il tuo nome in questo tempo.	5 Remember at this time not the misdeeds of our fathers, but your own hand and name:
6 Tu, infatti, sei il Signore, Dio nostro, e noi ti lodiamo, Signore.	6 for you are the LORD our God; and you, O LORD, we will praise!
7 Per questo tu hai immesso il tuo timore nel cuore nostro perché possiamo invocare il tuo nome. Ti lodiamo anche nella nostra prigionia, perché abbiamo eliminato dal nostro cuore ogni ingiustizia dei nostri padri che hanno peccato contro di te.	7 For this, you put into our hearts the fear of you: that we may call upon your name, and praise you in our captivity, when we have removed from our hearts all the wickedness of our fathers who sinned against you.
8 Eccoci, oggi, nella nostra prigionia, dove, per vergogna, ci hai disperso a maledizione e a condanna per tutte le ingiustizie dei nostri padri i quali si ribellarono contro il Signore, Dio nostro".	8 Behold us today in our captivity, where you scattered us, a reproach, a curse, and a requital for all the misdeeds of our fathers, who withdrew from the LORD, our God."
9 "Ascolta, Israele, i precetti della vita, porgi l'orecchio per conoscere la prudenza.	9 Hear, O Israel, the commandments of life: listen, and know prudence!
10 Cosa è accaduto, o Israele, cosa è accaduto per cui ti trovi in terra nemica e invecchi in terra straniera,	10 How is it, Israel, that you are in the land of your foes, grown old in a foreign land, Defiled with the dead,
11 contaminato con i morti e annoverato con quelli degl'inferi?	11 accounted with those destined for the nether world?
12 Hai abbandonato la fonte della sapienza!	12 You have forsaken the fountain of wisdom!
13 Se nella via di Dio avessi camminato, abiteresti in pace per sempre.	13 Had you walked in the way of God, you would have dwelt in enduring peace.
14 Impara dov'è la prudenza, dov'è la forza, dov'è l'intelligenza, per comprendere anche dov'è longevità e vita, dov'è luce degli occhi e pace.	14 Learn where prudence is, where strength, where understanding; That you may know also where are length of days, and life, where light of the eyes, and peace.
15 Chi ha scoperto il suo luogo e chi è penetrato nei suoi tesori?	15 Who has found the place of wisdom, who has entered into her treasuries?
16 Dove sono i prìncipi delle genti e i domatori delle belve che sono sulla terra?	16 Where are the rulers of the nations, they who lorded it over the wild beasts of the earth,

18 Quelli che con cura lavorano l'argento, delle cui opere non si scopre il segreto?	18 They schemed anxiously for money, but there is no trace of their work:
19 Sono scomparsi e discesi negl'inferi, mentre altri sono sorti al loro posto.	19 They have vanished down into the nether world, and others have risen up in their stead.
20 Nuovi giovani videro la luce e abitarono la terra; la via della scienza, però, non la conobbero.	20 Later generations have seen the light, have dwelt in the land, But the way to understanding they have not known,

24 O Israele, come è grande la casa di Dio e ampio il luogo del suo possesso!	24 O Israel, how vast is the house of God, how broad the scope of his dominion:
25 Grande e senza fine, eccelso e senza misura.	25 Vast and endless, high and immeasurable!
26 Là nacquero i giganti, uomini famosi fin dal principio, di grande statura e addestrati alla guerra.	26 In it were born the giants, renowned at the first, stalwarts, skilled in war.
27 Ma questi non scelse Dio, né diede loro la via della conoscenza;	27 Not these did God choose, nor did he give them the way of understanding;
28 perirono perché non ebbero la prudenza, perirono per la loro stoltezza.	28 They perished for lack of prudence, perished through their folly.
