1 Questi sono gli uomini che andarono da Davide a Ziklàg, quando era ancora bandito dalla presenza di Saul, figlio di Kis; essi erano i prodi che lo aiutavano in guerra,	1 These are the men who rallied to David at Ziklag while he was stil being kept away from Saul son ofKish; they were among the champions, the warriors.
2 usavano l'arco e si servivano della mano destra e della sinistra per lanciare pietre e per tirare frecce con l'arco; erano della tribù di Beniamino, fratelli di Saul:	2 They were equipped with bows and could sling stones or shoot arrows from the bow with either righthand or left. Of Saul's fellow-tribesmen from Benjamin:
3 Achièzer, il capo, e Ioas, figli di Semaa, di Gàbaa, Ieziel e Pelet, figli di Azmàvet, Beraca e Ieu, di Anatòt,	3 Ahiezer the leader, and Joash, sons of Hassemar of Gibeah, Jeziel and Peleth, sons of Azmaveth,Berachah and Jehu of Anathoth,
4 Ismaia di Gàbaon, prode fra i Trenta e capo dei Trenta;	4 Ishmaiah of Gibeon, one of the champions in the Thirty and commander of the Thirty,
5 Geremia, Iacaziel, Giovanni e Iozabad di Ghedera,	5 Jeremiah, Jahaziel, Johanan and Jozabed of Gederoth,

9 Dei Gaditi alcuni passarono a Davide nella fortezza del deserto; erano uomini prodi, guerrieri pronti a combattere, che maneggiavano lo scudo e la lancia; avevano l'aspetto del leone ed erano agili come le gazzelle sui monti.	9 From the Gadites, some good, capable fighting men defected and came to David at the stronghold inthe desert -- al skil ed with shield and spear, fierce as lions and nimble as mountain gazel es.
10 Ezer era il capo, Abdia il secondo, Eliàb il terzo,	10 Ezer was the leader, Obadiah second, Eliab third,
11 Mismanna il quarto, Geremia il quinto,	11 Mishmannah fourth, Jeremiah fifth,
12 Attài il sesto, Eliel il settimo,	12 Attai sixth, Eliel seventh,
13 Giovanni l'ottavo, Elzabàd il nono,	13 Johanan eighth, Elzabad ninth,
14 Geremia il decimo, Makbannai l'undicesimo.	14 Jeremiah tenth, Machbannai eleventh.
15 Costoro erano discendenti di Gad, capi dell'esercito; il minore comandava cento e il maggiore mille.	15 These Gadites were the leaders of the troops, the least of them a match for a hundred men and thegreatest a match for a thousand.
16 Questi sono coloro che passarono il Giordano nel primo mese, mentre esso dilagava su tutte le rive e misero in fuga tutti gli abitanti delle vallate a oriente e a occidente.	16 These were the men who once crossed the Jordan in the first month, when it had overflowed itsbanks and had driven out al the lowlanders to east and west.
17 Alcuni dei figli di Beniamino e di Giuda andarono da Davide fino alla fortezza.	17 Some of the Benjaminites and Judahites also joined David at the stronghold.
18 Questi mosse loro incontro e, presa la parola, disse loro: "Se siete venuti da me con propositi di pace per aiutarmi, sono disposto a unirmi a voi; ma se è per tradirmi e consegnarmi ai miei avversari, benché le mie mani non abbiano commesso nessun atto di violenza, lo veda il Dio dei nostri padri e lo punisca".	18 When David came forward to meet them, he responded to them by saying, 'If you have come to mewith peaceful intent to help me, you will find me a good friend. But if it is to betray me to my enemies, seeing thatI have done nothing wrong, may the God of our ancestors take note and condemn you.'
19 Allora lo spirito investì Amasài, capo dei Trenta: "Siamo tuoi, Davide! con te, figlio di Iesse! Pace, pace a te e pace a chi ti aiuta, perché è il tuo Dio che ti aiuta". Davide li accolse e li costituì capi delle schiere.	19 Then the Spirit invested Amasai the leader of the Thirty: 'We are your men, David; with you, son ofJesse! Peace be with you, peace be with you; peace be with those who help you! For your God has helped you!'And David accepted them, including them among his more senior officers.
20 Alcuni di Manasse passarono a Davide, quando insieme ai Filistei marciava in guerra contro Saul. Egli poi non aiutò costoro, perché tenendo consiglio i prìncipi dei Filistei lo rimandarono dicendo: "A prezzo delle nostre teste, egli passerà a Saul, suo signore".	20 Some Manassehites also defected to David as he was setting out with the Philistines to fight Saul.But he did not help the Philistines because, after consultation, their chiefs sent him away, saying, 'He wil defectto his master Saul and it wil cost us our heads!'
21 Mentre si dirigeva verso Ziklàg passarono a lui da Manasse: Adnach, Iozabàd, Iediaèl, Michele, Iozabàd, Eliu e Zilletai, capi di migliaia nella tribù di Manasse.	21 He was on his way to Ziklag when these Manassehites deserted to him: Adnah, Jozabad, Jediael,Michael, Jozabad, Elihu, Zil ethai, chiefs of thousands in Manasseh.
22 Costoro aiutarono Davide contro i banditi, perché erano tutti uomini valorosi e divennero capi dell'esercito.	22 They helped David and his band, since they were al men of standing and became officers in thearmy.
23 Ogni giorno, infatti, alcuni passavano a Davide per aiutarlo, cosicché il suo risultò un accampamento gigantesco.	23 Indeed reinforcements reached David day after day, so that his camp grew into a camp of prodigioussize.
24 Queste sono le cifre dei capi equipaggiati per l'esercito, che passarono a Davide in Ebron, per trasferirgli, secondo l'ordine del Signore, il regno di Saul.	24 These are the numbers of ful y armed men who joined David at Hebron to transfer Saul's kingdom tohim in accordance with the order of Yahweh:
25 Dei figli di Giuda, portanti scudo e lancia: seimilaottocento armati.	25 Judahites carrying shield and spear: six thousand eight hundred ful y armed warriors;
26 Dei figli di Simeone, uomini valorosi in guerra: settemilacento.	26 Simeonites; seven thousand one hundred champions valiant in war;
27 Dei figli di Levi: quattromilaseicento;	27 Levites: four thousand six hundred,
28 inoltre Ioiadà, principe della famiglia di Aronne, e con lui tremilasettecento;	28 in addition to Jehoiada, in command of the Aaronites, with three thousand seven hundred of these,
29 e Zadòk, giovane valoroso, e il suo casato con i suoi ventidue prìncipi.	29 Zadok, a young and valiant champion, and twenty-two commanders of his family;
30 Dei figli di Beniamino, fratelli di Saul: tremila; fino allora la maggior parte di essi era rimasta al servizio della casa di Saul.	30 Benjaminites: three thousand kinsmen of Saul, most of them hitherto in the service of the House ofSaul;
31 Dei figli di Efraim: ventimilaottocento uomini valorosi, rinomati nei loro casati.	31 Ephraimites: twenty thousand eight hundred valiant champions, men famous in their families;
32 Della mezza tribù di Manasse: diciottomila, designati singolarmente per partecipare alla nomina di Davide a re.	32 of the half-tribe of Manasseh: eighteen thousand men assigned by name to go and proclaim Davidking;
33 Dei figli di Issacar, che conoscevano bene i tempi e sapevano che cosa doveva fare Israele: duecento capi e tutti i loro fratelli ai loro ordini.	33 Issacharites, sound judges of the times when Israel should take action, and the way to do it: twohundred chiefs and al their kinsmen under their command;
34 Di Zabulon: cinquantamila uomini arruolati in un esercito, pronti per la battaglia con tutte le armi da guerra e disposti ad aiutare senza doppiezza.	34 Zebulunites: fifty thousand men fit for service, marshalled for battle, with warlike weapons of everykind, staunch-hearted auxiliaries;
35 Di Neftali: mille capi e con essi trentasettemila uomini equipaggiati di scudo e di lancia.	35 Naphtalites: a thousand commanders, and with them thirty-seven thousand men armed with shieldand spear;
36 Dei Daniti: ventottomilaseicento uomini pronti per la battaglia.	36 Danites: twenty-eight thousand six hundred men marshal ed for battle;
37 Di Aser: quarantamila, arruolati in un esercito, pronti per la battaglia.	37 Asherites: forty thousand men fit for service, marshalled for battle;
38 Della Transgiordania, cioè dei Rubeniti, dei Gaditi e della mezza tribù di Manasse: centoventimila uomini dotati di tutte le armi da guerra.	38 from Transjordan: a hundred and twenty thousand men of Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe ofManasseh, with warlike weapons of every kind.
39 Tutti costoro, guerrieri pronti a marciare, si presentarono con cuore sincero in Ebron per proclamare Davide re su tutto Israele; anche tutto il resto d'Israele era unanime nel proclamare re Davide.	39 Al these warriors in battle array came to David at Hebron with the firm determination of makingDavid king of al Israel; and the rest of Israel, too, was of one mind in wanting to make David king.
40 Rimasero là con Davide tre giorni mangiando e bevendo quanto i loro fratelli avevano provveduto per loro.	40 For three days they stayed there with David, eating and drinking, their fellow-tribesmen having madepreparations for them;
41 Anche i loro vicini e persino da Issacar, da Zabulon e da Neftali, avevano portato viveri a dorso di asini, cammelli, muli e buoi, approvvigionamenti di farina, pizze di fichi secchi, uva passa, vino, olio e bestiame grosso e minuto in abbondanza, perché c'era festa in Israele.	41 their neighbours too, from as far away as Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, came bringing food ondonkeys, camels, mules and oxen-supplies of flour, fig cakes, bunches of raisins, wine, oil, quantities of oxenand sheep -- for there was joy in Israel.
