BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 - Simone, figliuolo d'Onta, è il sommo sacerdote che durante la sua vita riparò la casa [di Dio], e a' suoi giorni restaurò il tempio.	1 Simon, the high priest, son of Onias: in his life, he propped up the house, and in his days, he strengthened the temple.
2 Anche l'altezza del tempio fu fondata da lui, la doppia costruzione e le altre mura del tempio.	2 Even the height of the temple was established by him: the double building and the high walls of the temple.
3 A' suoi tempi scaturirono pozzi d'acqua, e furono ripieni oltremodo come un mare.	3 In his days, waters flowed out from the wells, and these were full beyond measure, like the sea.
4 Ebbe cura del suo popolo e lo preservò dalla rovina,	4 He cared for his nation, and he freed it from perdition.
5 e valse a ingrandire la città. S'acquistò gloria col trattar col popolo, e ampliò l'ingresso del tempio e dell'atrio.	5 He prevailed, so as to enlarge the city. And he obtained glory by his behavior among the people. And he enlarged the entrance of the house and of the atrium.
6 Come la stella del mattino tra le nebbie, e come splende la luna ne' giorni ch'è piena,	6 He shined in his days like the morning star through the midst of a cloud, and like the full moon.
7 e come sole raggiante, cosi egli rifulse nel tempio di Dio:	7 And he shined forth in the temple of God in this manner: like the sun when it shines brightly,
8 [apparve] come l'arcobaleno scintillante tra le nuvole luminose, e come il fior della rosa in primavera, e come i gigli lungo il corso delle acque;	8 and like a rainbow shining amid clouds of glory, and like flowering roses in the days of spring, and like lilies along the water’s edge, and like sweet smelling frankincense in the days of summer,
9 come [ramo di] resina odorosa in tempo d'estate, e come il fuoco fiammante e l'incenso che brucia sul fuoco;	9 like a fire shining brightly, and like frankincense burning within a fire,
10 come vaso d'oro massiccio ornato d'ogni sorta di pietre preziose;	10 like a vessel of solid gold, adorned with every precious stone,
11 come l'olivo germogliente, e come il cipresso che si slancia in alto! Quando indossava il manto di gloria, e si rivestiva de' suoi paramenti solenni,	11 like an olive tree producing buds, and like a cypress tree lifting itself on high, when he received the robe of glory and was vested with the consummation of virtue.
12 quando saliva all'altare santo, dava splendore al recinto del santuario.	12 He gave glory to the vestment of sanctity, when he ascended to the holy altar.
13 Quando riceveva le parti [delle vittime] dalla mano de' sacerdoti ed egli se ne stava ritto presso l'altare, l'attorniava una corona di fratelli, come rampolli di cedro sul monte Libano:	13 Then, when he received the portions from the hands of the priests, he himself stood next to the altar. And around him was the crown of his brethren, like a cedar planted on a mountain of Lebanon.
14 lo circondavano come rami di palme tutti i figliuoli d'Aronne nel loro splendore,	14 And they stood around him like palm branches, and all were sons of Aaron in their glory.
15 e l'oblazione del Signore era nelle loro mani, alla vista di tutta l'adunanza d'Israele.	15 Then the oblation of the Lord was in their hands, in the sight of the entire synagogue of Israel. And completing his service at the altar, so as to magnify the offering to the Most High King,
16 Stendeva la sua mano alla [coppa della] liberazione, e libava il sangue dell'uva:	16 he extended his hand to make a libation, and he offered from the blood of the grape.
17 [lo] versava sul basamento dell'altare, [come] divine profumo all'Eccelso, al [gran] Re.	17 At the base of the altar, he poured out a divine fragrance to the Most High Prince.
18 Allora alzavan la voce i figliuoli d'Aronne, e davan flato alle ben lavorate trombe, e facevan risonare grandi grida, in ricordo al cospetto di Dio.	18 Then the sons of Aaron shouted; they sounded finely-made trumpets, and they made a great noise, as a memorial in the sight of God.
19 Allora tutto il popolo s'affrettava, e cadeva con la faccia in terra, per adorare il Signore Iddio suo, e inalzar preghiere all'onnipotente Iddio, all'Altissimo.	19 Then all the people at once hurried forward, and they fell to the ground on their faces, to adore the Lord their God, and to offer prayers to Almighty God Most High.
20 E [lo] magnificavano i cantori con le loro voci, e nella gran casa risonava la melodia soave.	20 And the singers of Psalms raised their voices, and a full sweet sound increased in the great house.
21 E il popolo supplicava il Signore altissimo, [e s'effondeva] in preghiere [dinanzi al Misericordioso], fino a che fosse terminato il culto del Signore, e [i sacerdoti] avessero compiuto il loro ministero.	21 And the people petitioned the Most High Lord in prayer, even until the honor of the Lord was completed, and they finished offering their gifts.
22 Allora scendendo [il sommo sacerdote] levava le sue mani, su tutta l'adunanza de' figliuoli d'Israele; per dar gloria a Dio con le sue labbra, e gloriarsi nel suo nome.	22 Then, descending, he extended his hands over the entire congregation of the sons of Israel, to give glory to God from his lips, and to glory in his name.
23 E replicava la sua orazione, volendo mostrare la potenza di Dio.	23 And he repeated his prayer, wanting to reveal the virtue of God.
24 E ora benedite Iddio [il Signore], di tutti, che grandi cose ha fatto su tutta la terra; che ha accresciuto i nostri giorni dal seno di nostra madre, e ha agito con noi a seconda della sua misericordia.	24 And now, pray to the God of all, who has accomplished great things over all the earth, who has increased our days from our mother’s womb, and who has acted toward us in accord with his mercy.
25 Ci dia egli la gioia del cuore, e che la pace torni a' dì nostri in Israele in sempiterno;	25 May he give us joyfulness in heart, and may there be peace in our days, in Israel for unending days,
26 e creda Israele che la misericordia di Dio è con noi, per liberarci a' suoi giorni.	26 so that Israel may trust the mercy of God to be with us, in order to free us in his days.
27 Due popoli abomina l'anima mia, e il terzo che odio, non è [neppure] un popolo:	27 Two nations my soul hates, and a third, which I hate, is not a nation:
28 quei che risiedono sul monte di Seir e i Filistei, e lo stolto popolo che abita in Sichem.	28 those who sit upon mount Seir, and the Philistines, and the foolish people who live at Shechem.
29 Saggi e dotti insegnamenti scrisse in questo libro Gesù, figliuolo di Sirach, Gerosolimitano, ch'effuse la sapienza del suo cuore.	29 Jesus, the son of Sirach, of Jerusalem, who renewed wisdom from his heart, wrote the doctrine of wisdom and discipline in this book.
30 Beato colui che si occupa di tali beni: chi gli accoglie in cuor suo, sarà ognora sapiente.	30 Blessed is he who lives by these good things. Whoever places these things in his heart will be ever wise.
31 Se invero praticherà questi insegnamenti, riuscirà in ogni cosa, perchè la luce del Signore è la sua traccia.	31 For if he does these things, he will prevail in all things. For the light of God is upon his footsteps.
