1 And when he had completed all his words in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum.	1 Cum autem implesset omnia verba sua in aures plebis, intra vitCapharnaum.
2 Now the servant of a certain centurion was dying, due to an illness. And he was very dear to him.	2 Centurionis autem cuiusdam servus male habens erat moriturus, quiilli erat pretiosus.
3 And when he had heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to him, petitioning him, so that he would come and heal his servant.	3 Et cum audisset de Iesu, misit ad eum seniores Iudaeorumrogans eum, ut veniret et salvaret servum eius.
4 And when they had come to Jesus, they petitioned him anxiously, saying to him: “He is worthy that you should provide this to him.	4 At illi cum venissent adIesum, rogabant eum sollicite dicentes: “ Dignus est, ut hoc illi praestes:
5 For he loves our nation, and he has built a synagogue for us.”	5 diligit enim gentem nostram et synagogam ipse aedificavit nobis ”.
6 Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying: “Lord, do not trouble yourself. For I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof.	6 Iesusautem ibat cum illis. At cum iam non longe esset a domo, misit centurio amicosdicens ei: “ Domine, noli vexari; non enim dignus sum, ut sub tectum meumintres,
7 Because of this, I also did not consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant shall be healed.	7 propter quod et meipsum non sum dignum arbitratus, ut venirem ad te;sed dic verbo, et sanetur puer meus.
8 For I also am a man placed under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”	8 Nam et ego homo sum sub potestateconstitutus, habens sub me milites, et dico huic: “Vade”, et vadit; et alii:“Veni”, et venit; et servo meo: “Fac hoc”, et facit ”.
9 And upon hearing this, Jesus was amazed. And turning to the multitude following him, he said, “Amen I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith.”	9 Quo audito,Iesus miratus est eum et conversus sequentibus se turbis dixit: “ Dico vobis,nec in Israel tantam fidem inveni! ”.
10 And those who had been sent, upon returning to the house, found that the servant, who had been sick, was now healthy.	10 Et reversi, qui missi fuerant, domum,invenerunt servum sanum.
11 And it happened afterwards that he went to a city, which is called Nain. And his disciples, and an abundant crowd, went with him.	11 Et factum est, deinceps ivit in civitatem, quae vocatur Naim, et ibant cumillo discipuli eius et turba copiosa.
12 Then, when he had drawn near to the gate of the city, behold, a deceased person was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her.	12 Cum autem appropinquaret portaecivitatis, et ecce defunctus efferebatur filius unicus matri suae; et haec viduaerat, et turba civitatis multa cum illa.
13 And when the Lord had seen her, being moved by mercy over her, he said to her, “Do not weep.”	13 Quam cum vidisset Dominus,misericordia motus super ea dixit illi: “ Noli flere! ”.
14 And he drew near and touched the coffin. Then those who carried it stood still. And he said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.”	14 Et accessit ettetigit loculum; hi autem, qui portabant, steterunt. Et ait: “ Adulescens,tibi dico: Surge! ”.
15 And the dead youth sat up and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother.	15 Et resedit, qui erat mortuus, et coepit loqui; etdedit illum matri suae.
16 Then fear fell over all of them. And they magnified God, saying: “For a great prophet has risen up among us,” and, “For God has visited his people.”	16 Accepit autem omnes timor, et magnificabant Deumdicentes: “ Propheta magnus surrexit in nobis ” et: “ Deus visitavitplebem suam ”.
17 And this word about him went out to all of Judea and to the entire surrounding region.	17 Et exiit hic sermo in universam Iudaeam de eo et omnem circaregionem.
18 And the disciples of John reported to him concerning all these things.	18 Et nuntiaverunt Ioanni discipuli eius de omnibus his.
19 And John called two of his disciples, and he sent them to Jesus, saying, “Are you he who is to come, or should we wait for another?”	19 Et convocavit duosde discipulis suis Ioannes et misit ad Dominum dicens: “ Tu es qui venturuses, an alium exspectamus? ”.
20 But when the men had come to him, they said: “John the Baptist has sent us to you, saying: ‘Are you he who is to come, or should we wait for another?’ ”	20 Cum autem venissent ad eum viri, dixerunt: “Ioannes Baptista misit nos ad te dicens: “Tu es qui venturus es, an aliumexspectamus?” ”.
21 Now in that same hour, he cured many of their diseases and wounds and evil spirits; and to many of the blind, he gave sight.	21 In ipsa hora curavit multos a languoribus et plagis etspiritibus malis et caecis multis donavit visum.
22 And responding, he said to them: “Go and report to John what you have heard and seen: that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead rise again, the poor are evangelized.	22 Et respondens dixit illis:“ Euntes nuntiate Ioanni, quae vidistis et audistis: caeci vident, claudiambulant, leprosi mundantur et surdi audiunt, mortui resurgunt, pauperesevangelizantur;
23 And blessed is anyone who has not taken offense at me.”	23 et beatus est, quicumque non fuerit scandalizatus in me ”.
24 And when the messengers of John had withdrawn, he began to speak about John to the crowds. “What did you go out to the desert to see? A reed shaken by the wind?	24 Et cum discessissent nuntii Ioannis, coepit dicere de Ioanne ad turbas: “Quid existis in desertum videre? Arundinem vento moveri?
25 Then what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Behold, those who are in costly apparel and finery are in the houses of kings.	25 Sed quid existisvidere? Hominem mollibus vestimentis indutum? Ecce, qui in veste pretiosa suntet deliciis, in domibus regum sunt.
26 Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Certainly, I tell you, and more than a prophet.	26 Sed quid existis videre? Prophetam?Utique, dico vobis, et plus quam prophetam.
27 This is he of whom it is written: “Behold, I send my Angel before your face, who shall prepare your way before you.”	27 Hic est, de quo scriptum est: “Ecce mitto angelum meum ante faciem tuam, qui praeparabit viam tuam ante te”.
28 For I say to you, among those born of women, no one is greater than the prophet John the Baptist. But he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”	28 Dico vobis: Maior inter natos mulierum Ioanne nemo est; qui autem minor estin regno Dei, maior est illo.
29 And upon hearing this, all the people and the tax collectors justified God, by being baptized with the baptism of John.	29 Et omnis populus audiens et publicaniiustificaverunt Deum, baptizati baptismo Ioannis;
30 But the Pharisees and the experts in the law despised the counsel of God concerning themselves, by not being baptized by him.	30 pharisaei autem et legisperiti consilium Dei spreverunt in semetipsos, non baptizati ab eo.
31 Then the Lord said: “Therefore, to what shall I compare the men of this generation? And to what are they similar?	31 Cui ergo similes dicam homines generationis huius, et cui similes sunt?
32 They are like children sitting in the marketplace, talking with one another, and saying: ‘We sang to you, and you did not dance. We lamented, and you did not weep.’	32 Similes sunt pueris sedentibus in foro et loquentibus ad invicem, quod dicit: “Cantavimus vobis tibiis, et non saltastis; lamentavimus, et non plorastis!”.
33 For John the Baptist came, neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’	33 Venit enim Ioannes Baptista neque manducans panem neque bibens vinum, etdicitis: “Daemonium habet!”;
34 The Son of man came, eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Behold, a voracious man and a drinker of wine, a friend of tax collectors and of sinners.’	34 venit Filius hominis manducans et bibens, etdicitis: “Ecce homo devorator et bibens vinum, amicus publicanorum etpeccatorum!”.
35 But wisdom is justified by all her children.”	35 Et iustificata est sapientia ab omnibus filiis suis ”.
36 Then certain Pharisees petitioned him, so that they might eat with him. And he went into the house of the Pharisee, and he reclined at table.	36 Rogabat autem illum quidam de pharisaeis, ut manducaret cum illo; etingressus domum pharisaei discubuit.
37 And behold, a woman who was in the city, a sinner, found out that he was reclining at table in the house of the Pharisee, so she brought an alabaster container of ointment.	37 Et ecce mulier, quae erat in civitatepeccatrix, ut cognovit quod accubuit in domo pharisaei, attulit alabastrumunguenti;
38 And standing behind him, beside his feet, she began to wash his feet with tears, and she wiped them with the hair of her head, and she kissed his feet, and she anointed them with ointment.	38 et stans retro secus pedes eius flens lacrimis coepit rigare pedeseius et capillis capitis sui tergebat, et osculabatur pedes eius et unguentoungebat.
39 Then the Pharisee, who had invited him, upon seeing this, spoke within himself, saying, “This man, if he were a prophet, would certainly know who and what kind of woman is this, who is touching him: that she is a sinner.”	39 Videns autem pharisaeus, qui vocaverat eum, ait intra se dicens: “ Hic siesset propheta, sciret utique quae et qualis mulier, quae tangit eum, quiapeccatrix est ”.
40 And in response, Jesus said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” So he said, “Speak, Teacher.”	40 Et respondens Iesus dixit ad illum: “ Simon, habeo tibialiquid dicere ”. At ille ait: “ Magister, dic ”.
41 “A certain creditor had two debtors: one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.	41 “ Duo debitoreserant cuidam feneratori: unus debebat denarios quingentos, alius quinquaginta.
42 And since they did not have the ability to repay him, he forgave them both. So then, which of them loves him more?”	42 Non habentibus illis, unde redderent, donavit utrisque. Quis ergo eorum plusdiliget eum? ”.
43 In response, Simon said, “I suppose that it is he to whom he forgave the most.” And he said to him, “You have judged correctly.”	43 Respondens Simon dixit: “ Aestimo quia is, cui plusdonavit ”. At ille dixit ei: “ Recte iudicasti ”.
44 And turning to the woman, he said to Simon: “Do you see this woman? I entered into your house. You gave me no water for my feet. But she has washed my feet with tears, and has wiped them with her hair.	44 Et conversus admulierem, dixit Simoni: “ Vides hanc mulierem? Intravi in domum tuam: aquampedibus meis non dedisti; haec autem lacrimis rigavit pedes meos et capillissuis tersit.
45 You gave no kiss to me. But she, from the time that she entered, has not ceased to kiss my feet.	45 Osculum mihi non dedisti; haec autem, ex quo intravi, noncessavit osculari pedes meos.
46 You did not anoint my head with oil. But she has anointed my feet with ointment.	46 Oleo caput meum non unxisti; haec autemunguento unxit pedes meos.
47 Because of this, I tell you: many sins are forgiven her, because she has loved much. But he who is forgiven less, loves less.”	47 Propter quod dico tibi: Remissa sunt peccata eiusmulta, quoniam dilexit multum; cui autem minus dimittitur, minus diligit ”.
48 Then he said to her, “Your sins are forgiven you.”	48 Dixit autem ad illam: “ Remissa sunt peccata tua ”.
49 And those who sat at table with him began to say within themselves, “Who is this, who even forgives sins?”	49 Et coeperunt, quisimul accumbebant, dicere intra se: “ Quis est hic, qui etiam peccatadimittit?”.
50 Then he said to the woman: “Your faith has brought you salvation. Go in peace.”	50 Dixit autem ad mulierem: “ Fides tua te salvam fecit; vade inpace! ”.
