1 And when Balaam had seen that it was pleasing to the Lord that he should bless Israel, he by no means went out as he had gone before, to seek divination. But directing his face opposite the desert,	1 E Balaam vedendo esser grato al signore che egli benedicesse Israele, non andò come pel passato a cercare l‘augurio: ma volse la sua faccia al deserto.
2 and lifting up his eyes, he saw Israel dwelling in tents by their tribes. And with the Spirit of God rushing into him,	2 e, alzati gli occhi, vidi Israele nelle tende accampato per tribù, e, venutogli addosso lo spirito di Dio, presa la parabola, disse:
3 taking up his parable, he said: “Balaam, the son of Beor, the man whose eye has been obstructed,	3 « Parola di Balaam figlio di Beor, parola dell'uomo dall'occhio chiuso,
4 the hearer of the sermon of God, he who has gazed upon a vision of the Almighty, he who falls down and so his eyes are opened, has declared:	4 parola di colui che ode la parola di Dio, che contempla la visione dell'Onnipotente, che cade e gli si aprono gli occhi:
5 ‘How beautiful are your tabernacles, O Jacob, and your tents, O Israel!	5 quanto son belli i tuoi padiglioni, o Giacobbe, e le tue tende, o Israele!
6 They are like forested valleys, like gardens irrigated next to rivers, like tabernacles which the Lord has fixed, like cedars close to waters.	6 Sono come valli selvose, come giardini in riva ad un fiume, come Tabernacolo piantato dal Signore, come cedri lungo le acque.
7 Water shall flow from his jar, and his offspring shall be amid many waters, because Agag, his king, shall be taken, and his kingdom shall be removed.	7 L'acqua traboccherà dalla sua secchia, la sua semenza, avrà abbondanza di acque, il suo re sarà rigettato a causa d'Agag, e sarà tolto il suo regno.
8 Away from Egypt, God has led him, whose strength is like the rhinoceros. They shall devour the nations that are his enemies, and break their bones, and pierce them with arrows.	8 Dio lo ha, tratto fuori dall'Egitto, e la sua forza è come quella del rinoceront. Divorerà le genti sue nemiche, spezzerà le loro ossa, le trafiggerà colle frecci
9 Lying down, he has slept like a lion, and like a lioness, whom no one would dare to awaken. He who blesses you, shall himself also be blessed. He who curses you, shall be considered cursed.”	9 si sdraia e dorme come un leone e come una leonessa che nessuno oserà svegliare. Chi ti benedirà sarà benedetto e compreso nella maledizione chi ti maledirà ».
10 And Balak, being angry against Balaam, clapped his hands together and said: “I called you to curse my enemies, and, to the contrary, you have blessed them three times.	10 Ma Balac, sdegnatosi contro Balam, disse, battendo le mani: « Ti ho chiamato a maledire i miei nemici, e tu invece li hai benedetti tre volte!
11 Return to your place. I had decided, indeed, to honor you greatly, but the Lord has deprived you of the designated honor.”	11 Torna casa tua. M'ero proposto di colmarti d'onori; ma il Signore ti ha privato dei preparati onori ».
12 Balaam responded to Balak: “Did I not say to your messengers, whom you sent to me:	12 Balaam rispose a Balac: « E non lo dissi ai messaggeri che mi mandasti:
13 Even if Balak would give me his house, filled with silver and gold, I still could not go away from the word of the Lord my God, so as to offer anything, either good or evil, from my own heart; but whatever the Lord will speak, this, too, I shall speak.	13 Quand'anche mi desse Balac la sua casa piena d'argento e d'oro, non potrei trasgredire l'ordine del Signore Dio mio, per far di mia testa qualche cosa di bene o di male; ma dirò tutto quello che avrà detto il Signore?
14 Yet truly, as I continue on to my own people, I will give you counsel as to what this people shall do to your people in the end times.”	14 Ebbene, torno al mio popolo; ma avanti ti darò un consiglio su ciò che il tuo popolo deve fare a questo popolo negli ultimi tempi ».
15 Therefore, taking up his parable, he again spoke: “Balaam the son of Beor, the man whose eye has been obstructed,	15 Presa adunque la parabola di nuovo, disse: « Parola di Balaam figlio di Beor; parola dell'uomo dall'occhio chiuso;
16 the hearer of the sermon of God, he who knows the doctrine of the Most High, and who sees the visions of the Almighty, who, falling down, has his eyes opened, has declared:	16 parola di colui che ode le parole di Dio, che conosce la dottrina dell'Altissimo, e contempla le visioni dell'Onnipotente, che cadendo ha gli occhi aperti.
17 I shall see him, but not presently. I shall gaze upon him, but not soon. A star shall rise out of Jacob, and a rod shall spring up from Israel. And he shall strike down the commanders of Moab, and he shall devastate all the sons of Seth.	17 Io lo vedrò, ma non ora: lo contemplerò, ma non da vicino: UNA STELLA NÀSCERÀ da Giacobbe, e una verga si leverà da Israele, e percuoterà i capi di Moab, e rovinerà tutti i figli di Set.
18 And he shall possess Idumea; the inheritance of Seir shall fall to their enemies. Yet truly, Israel shall act with strength.	18 E l'Idumea sarà suo possesso, l'eredità di Seir pas? serà ai suoi nemici, ma Israele agirà con fortezza.
19 From Jacob will be he who shall be ruler. And he shall perish the remnants of the city.”	19 Da Giacobbe uscirà il dominatore che sterminerà gli avanzi della città ».
20 And when he saw Amalek, taking up his parable, he said: “Amalek, first among the Gentiles, whose very end shall be perdition.”	20 E avendo visto Amalec, prese la parabola e disse: « Amalec è la prima delle nazioni; ma finirà collo sterminio ».
21 Likewise, he saw the Kainites, and taking up his parable, he said: “Robust, indeed, is your habitation. But though you will set your nest in a rock,	21 E visto anche il Cineo, prese la parabola e disse: « La tua dimora è veramente solida, ma sebbene tu abbia posto il tuo nido nella, rupe asia stato l'eletto della stirpe di Cin, quanto tempo potrai sussistere? Assur ti prenderà ».
22 and you will be elect among the stock of Kain, how long will you be able to remain? For Assur shall take you captive.”	22 E presa la parabola, disse ancora: « Ahi! chi sarà vivo quando Dio farà queste cose? sverranno sulle triremi dall'Italia: vinceranno gli Assiri, devasteranno gli Ebrei, e alla fine periranno anch'essi ».
23 And taking up his parable once more he said: “Alas! Who will be able to survive, when God will do these things?	23 E Balaam si alzò e tornò a casa sua; ed anche Balac se ne andò per la strada per cui era venuto.
24 They shall arrive in Greek warships from Italy. They shall overcome the Assyrians, and they shall devastate the Hebrews, and yet, at the very end, even they themselves shall perish.”
25 And Balaam rose up, and he returned to his place. Likewise, Balak went back, along the way by which he had arrived.
