1 How much better is it to reprove, than to become angry, so as not to hinder him who may confess in prayer.	1 C'è un rimprovero che è fuori tempo, c'è chi tace ed è prudente.
2 The lust of an eunuch will deflower a young maiden;	2 Quanto è meglio rimproverare che covare l'ira!
3 similar is he who by violence gives an iniquitous judgment.	3 Chi si confessa colpevole evita l'umiliazione.
4 How good it is, when you are corrected, to show contrition! For in this way, you will escape deliberate sin.	4 Un eunuco che vuol deflorare una ragazza, così chi vuol rendere giustizia con la violenza.
5 There is one who, by remaining silent, is found to be wise. And there is another who is hateful and who provokes by speaking out.	5 C'è chi tace ed è ritenuto saggio, e c'è chi è odiato per la sua loquacità.
6 There is one who, not having the understanding to speak, remains silent. And there is another who remains silent, knowing the proper time.	6 C'è chi tace, perché non sa che cosa rispondere, e c'è chi tace, perché conosce il momento propizio.
7 A wise man will remain silent until the proper time. But an unrestrained and imprudent person will not heed the times.	7 L'uomo saggio sta zitto fino al momento opportuno, il millantatore e lo stolto lo trascurano.
8 Whoever uses many words will wound his own soul. And whoever unjustly takes authority upon himself will be hated.	8 Chi abbonda nel parlare si renderà abominevole; chi vuole assolutamente imporsi sarà odiato.
9 There is advancement in evil for an undisciplined man, and there is a plan which turns to his detriment.	9 Nelle disgrazie può trovarsi la fortuna per un uomo, mentre un profitto può essere una perdita.
10 There is a gift which is not helpful, and there is a gift, the repayment for which is double.	10 C'è una generosità, che non ti arreca vantaggi e c'è chi dall'umiliazione alza la testa.
11 There is a loss for the sake of boasting, and there is one who will lift up his head from lowliness.	11 .
12 There is one who buys much for a small price, and who pays it back sevenfold.	12 C'è chi compra molte cose con poco, e chi le paga sette volte il loro valore.
13 Anyone wise in words makes himself loved. But the graces of the foolish will be poured away.	13 Il saggio si rende amabile con le sue parole, le cortesie degli stolti sono sciupate.
14 A gift from the unwise will not benefit you. For his gaze is divided, sevenfold.	14 Il dono di uno stolto non ti gioverà, perché i suoi occhi bramano ricevere più di quanto ha dato.
15 He will give little, and reproach much. And the opening of his mouth is like a burning flame.	15 Egli darà poco, ma rinfaccerà molto; aprirà la sua bocca come un banditore. Oggi darà un prestito e domani richiederà; uomo odioso è costui.
16 There is one who lends today and demands repayment tomorrow. A man such as this is hateful.	16 Lo stolto dice: "Non ho un amico, non c'è gratitudine per i miei benefici.
17 A foolish man will not have a friend, and there will be no thanks for his good deeds.	17 Quelli che mangiano il mio pane sono lingue cattive". Quanto spesso e quanti si burleranno di lui!
18 For those who eat his bread have a false tongue. How often and how many are those who will ridicule him!	18 Meglio scivolare sul pavimento che con la lingua; per questo la caduta dei cattivi giunge rapida.
19 For what he possesses, he does not distribute with correct understanding. And he acts similarly with what he does not possess.	19 Un uomo senza grazia è un discorso inopportuno: è sempre sulla bocca dei maleducati.
20 The slip of a false tongue is like someone who falls upon pavement. Such a fall for the wicked will arrive quickly.	20 Non si accetta una massima dalla bocca dello stolto, perché non è mai detta a proposito.
21 A disagreeable man is like a pointless fable; it will be continually in the mouth of the undisciplined.	21 C'è chi è impedito di peccare dalla miseria e durante il riposo non avrà rimorsi.
22 A parable from the mouth of a fool will be rejected. For he does not speak it at the proper time.	22 C'è chi si rovina per rispetto umano e si rovina per la faccia di uno stolto.
23 There is one who is prevented from sinning by poverty, and in his rest, he will be vexed.	23 C'è chi per rispetto umano fa promesse a un amico; in tal modo se lo rende gratuitamente nemico.
24 There is one who will lose his own soul because of pretense, and he will lose it by an example of imprudence. For by seeking the approval of another, he will destroy himself.	24 Brutta macchia nell'uomo la menzogna, si trova sempre sulla bocca degli ignoranti.
25 There is one who, for the sake of what other’s think, makes a promise to a friend, and so he gains him as an enemy for no reason.	25 Meglio un ladro che un mentitore abituale, ma tutti e due condivideranno la rovina.
26 A lie is a wicked disgrace to a man, and yet lies will be continually in the mouths of those without discipline.	26 L'abitudine del bugiardo è un disonore, la vergogna lo accompagnerà sempre.
27 A thief is better than a man who constantly lies. But both of them will inherit perdition.	27 Il saggio si fa onore con i discorsi, l'uomo prudente piace ai grandi.
28 The habits of lying men are without honor. And their shame is with them without ceasing.	28 Chi lavora la terra accrescerà il raccolto; chi piace ai grandi si fa perdonare l'ingiustizia.
29 A wise man will benefit himself by his own words, and a prudent man will please the powerful.	29 Regali e doni accecano gli occhi dei saggi, come bavaglio sulla bocca, soffocano i rimproveri.
30 Whoever works his land will raise high a stockpile of grain. And whoever works justice will himself be raised high. Yet truly, whoever pleases the powerful will escape unfair treatment.	30 Sapienza nascosta e tesoro invisibile: a che servono l'una e l'altro?
31 Presents and gifts blind the eyes of judges, and silence their mouths, turning them aside from their task of correction.	31 Fa meglio chi nasconde la stoltezza che colui che nasconde la sapienza.
32 Wisdom hidden, and treasure unseen: of what use is either of these?
33 He who hides his foolishness is better than a man who conceals his wisdom.
