1 And when men began to be multiplied upon the earth, and daughters were born to them,	1 Après que les hommes eurent commencé à se multiplier sur la terre et qu'ils eurent engendré des filles,
2 the sons of God, seeing that the daughters of men were beautiful, took to themselves wives from all whom they chose.	2 les enfants (fils, note) de Dieu, voyant que les filles des hommes étaient belles, prirent pour leurs femmes celles d'entre elles qui leur avaient plu.
3 And God said: “My spirit shall not remain in man forever, because he is flesh. And so his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.”	3 Et Dieu dit : Mon esprit ne demeurera pas pour toujours avec l'homme, parce qu'il est chair ; et le temps de l'homme (ses jours) ne sera plus que de cent vingt ans.
4 Now giants were upon the earth in those days. For after the sons of God went in to the daughters of men, and they conceived, these became the powerful ones of ancient times, men of renown.	4 Or il y avait des géants sur la terre en ce temps-là. Car depuis que les enfants de Dieu eurent épousé les filles des hommes, il en sortit des enfants qui furent des hommes puissants et dès longtemps (les temps anciens) fameux.
5 Then God, seeing that the wickedness of men was great upon the earth and that every thought of their heart was intent upon evil at all times,	5 Mais Dieu, voyant que la malice des hommes qui vivaient sur la terre était extrême (grande), et que toutes les pensées de leur cœur étaient en tout temps appliquées au mal,
6 repented that he had made man on the earth. And being touched inwardly with a sorrow of heart,	6 il se repentit d'avoir fait l'homme sur la terre. Et étant touché de douleur jusqu'au fond du cœur,
7 he said, “I will eliminate man, whom I have created, from the face of the earth, from man to other living things, from animals even to the flying things of the air. For it grieves me that I have made them.”	7 il dit : J'exterminerai de dessus la terre l'homme que j'ai créé ; j'exterminerai tout, depuis l'homme jusqu'aux animaux, depuis ce qui rampe sur la terre jusqu'aux oiseaux du ciel : car je me repens de les avoir faits.
8 Yet truly, Noah found grace before the Lord.	8 Mais Noé trouva grâce devant le Seigneur.
9 These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a just man, and yet he was predominate among his generations, for he walked with God.	9 Voici les générations de Noé. Noé fut un homme juste et parfait au milieu des hommes de son temps : il marcha avec Dieu.
10 And he conceived three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.	10 Et il engendra trois fils, Sem, Cham et Japheth.
11 Yet the earth was corrupted before the eyes of God, and it was filled with iniquity.	11 Or la terre était corrompue devant Dieu, et remplie d'iniquité.
12 And when God had seen that the earth had been corrupted, (indeed, all flesh had corrupted its way upon the earth)	12 Dieu voyant donc cette corruption de la terre (car la vie que tous les hommes y menaient était toute (car toute chair avait corrompu sa voie sur la terre) corrompue),
13 he said to Noah: “The end of all flesh has arrived in my sight. The earth has been filled with iniquity by their presence, and I will destroy them, along with the earth.	13 il dit à Noé : J'ai résolu de faire périr tous les hommes (toute chair). Ils ont rempli toute la terre d'iniquité, et je les exterminerai avec la terre.
14 Make yourself an ark from smoothed wood. You shall make little dwelling places in the ark, and you shall smear pitch on the interior and exterior.	14 Fais-toi une arche de pièces de bois aplanies. Tu y feras de petites chambres (compartiments), et tu l'enduiras de bitume au dedans et au dehors.
15 And thus shall you make it: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits.	15 Voici la forme que tu lui donneras. Sa longueur sera de trois cents coudées, sa largeur de cinquante, et sa hauteur de trente.
16 You shall make a window in the ark, and you shall complete it within a cubit of the top. Then you shall set the door of the ark at its side. You shall make in it: a lower part, upper rooms, and a third level.	16 Tu feras à l'arche une fenêtre. Le comble qui la couvrira sera haut d'une coudée ; et tu mettras la porte de l'arche au côté ; tu feras un étage tout en bas, un (second) (au milieu), et un troisième.
17 Behold, I shall bring the waters of a great flood upon the earth, so as to put to death all flesh in which there is the breath of life under heaven. All things that are on the earth shall be consumed.	17 Je m'en vais répandre les eaux du déluge sur la terre, pour faire mourir toute chair qui respire, et qui est vivante sous le ciel. Tout ce qui est sur la terre sera consumé.
18 And I shall establish my covenant with you, and you shall enter the ark, you and your sons, your wife and the wives of your sons with you.	18 J'établirai mon alliance avec toi ; et tu entreras dans l'arche, toi et tes fils, ta femme, et les femmes de tes fils avec toi.
19 And from every living thing of all that is flesh, you shall lead pairs into the ark, so that they may survive with you: from the male sex and the female,	19 Tu feras aussi entrer dans l'arche deux de chaque espèce de tous les animaux, un mâle et une femelle, afin qu'ils vivent avec toi.
20 from birds, according to their kind, and from beasts, in their kind, and from among all animals on earth, according to their kind; pairs from each shall enter with you, so that they may be able to live.	20 De chaque espèce des oiseaux tu en prendras deux ; de chaque espèce des animaux terrestres (quadrupèdes), deux ; de chaque espèce de ce qui rampe sur la terre, deux. Deux de toute espèce entreront avec toi dans l'arche, afin qu'ils puissent vivre.
21 Therefore, you shall take with you from all the foods that are able to be eaten, and you shall carry these with you. And these shall be used as food, some for you, and the rest for them.”	21 Tu prendrez aussi avec toi de tout ce qui se peut manger, et tu le porteras dans l'arche, pour servir à ta nourriture et à celle de tous les animaux.
22 And so Noah did all things just as God had instructed him.	22 Noé accomplit donc tout ce que Dieu lui avait commandé.
