1 Al those under the yoke of slavery must have unqualified respect for their masters, so that the name ofGod and our teaching are not brought into disrepute.	1 Todos os escravos, que estão sob o jugo, considerem os seus senhores dignos de toda a honra, para que o nome do Senhor e a sua doutrina não sejam blasfemados.
2 Those whose masters are believers are not to respect them less because they are brothers; on thecontrary, they should serve them al the better, since those who have the benefit of their services are believersand dear to God. This is what you are to teach and urge.	2 Os que têm senhores fiéis, não os desprezem, porque são irmãos, antes os sirvam melhor, pelo facto de serem fiéis e amados (de Deus) aqueles que recebem os seus serviços. Isto ensina e exorta.
3 Anyone who teaches anything different and does not keep to the sound teaching which is that of ourLord Jesus Christ, the doctrine which is in accordance with true religion,	3 Se alguém ensina de modo diferente, e não abraça as sãs palavras de Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo e aquela doutrina que é conforme a piedade,
4 is proud and has no understanding, but rather a weakness for questioning everything and arguing aboutwords. Al that can come of this is jealousy, contention, abuse and evil mistrust;	4 é um soberbo, que nada sabe, um espírito doente, que se ocupa de questões e contendas de palavras, donde se originam invejas, contendas, maledicências, más suspeitas,
5 and unending disputes by people who are depraved in mind and deprived of truth, and imagine thatreligion is a way of making a profit.	5 altercações de homens com o espírito pervertido, que estão privados da verdade e pensam que a piedade é uma fonte de lucro.
6 Religion, of course, does bring large profits, but only to those who are content with what they have.	6 Verdadeiramente a piedade é uma grande fonte de lucro, tornando-nos contentes com o que basta (para viver).
7 We brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it;	7 Como nada trouxemos para este mundo, também, sem dúvida, não podemos levar nada dele.
8 but as long as we have food and clothing, we shal be content with that.	8 Tendo, pois, os alimentos (necessários) e com que nos cobrir, contentemo-nos com isto,
9 People who long to be rich are a prey to trial; they get trapped into all sorts of foolish and harmfulambitions which plunge people into ruin and destruction.	9 porque os que querem enriquecer, caem na tentação e no laço (do demônio) e em muitos desejos insensatos e perniciosos, que submergem os homens na ruína e na perdição.
10 'The love of money is the root of all evils' and there are some who, pursuing it, have wandered awayfrom the faith and so given their souls any number of fatal wounds.	10 Com efeito, a raiz de todos os males é o amor ao dinheiro, por causa do qual alguns se desencaminharam da fé e se enredaram em muitas aflições.
11 But, as someone dedicated to God, avoid al that. You must aim to be upright and religious, fil ed withfaith and love, perseverance and gentleness.	11 Mas tu, ó homem de Deus, foge destas coisas e segue a justiça, a piedade, a fé, a caridade, a paciência, a mansidão.
12 Fight the good fight of faith and win the eternal life to which you were cal ed and for which you madeyour noble profession of faith before many witnesses.	12 Combate o bom combate da fé, conquista a vida eterna, para a qual foste chamado e fizeste uma bela confissão (da divindade de Jesus) diante de muitas testemunhas.
13 Now, before God, the source of all life, and before Jesus Christ, who witnessed to his noble professionof faith before Pontius Pilate, I charge you	13 Eu te ordeno, diante de Deus, que dá vida a todas as coisas, e diante de Jesus Cristo, que perante Pôncio Pilatos fez uma tão bela confissão (da sua divindade),
14 to do al that you have been told, with no faults or failures, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,	14 que observes este mandamento, (conservando-te) sem mácula, irrepreensível, até à vinda de Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo,
15 who at the due time wil be revealed by God, the blessed and only Ruler of al , the King of kings andthe Lord of lords,	15 que mostrará, a seu tempo, o bem-aventurado e o único poderoso, o Rei dos reis e Senhor dos senhores,
16 who alone is immortal, whose home is in inaccessible light, whom no human being has seen or is ableto see: to him be honour and everlasting power. Amen.	16 o único que possui a imortalidade, que habita numa luz inacessível, que não foi nem pode ser visto por nenhum homem. A ele, honra e império sempiterno ! Amém.
17 Instruct those who are rich in this world's goods that they should not be proud and should set theirhopes not on money, which is untrustworthy, but on God who gives us richly al that we need for our happiness.	17 Manda aos ricos deste mundo que não sejam altivos, nem confiem na incerteza das riquezas, mas em Deus, o qual nos dá abundantemente todas as coisas para nosso uso.
18 They are to do good and be rich in good works, generous in giving and always ready to share-	18 que façam bem, que se tornem ricos em boas obras, que sejam generosos, que repartam,
19 this is the way they can amass a good capital sum for the future if they want to possess the only lifethat is real.	19 que juntem (assim) para si um sólido tesouro para o futuro, a fim de alcançarem a verdadeira vida.
20 My dear Timothy, take great care of al that has been entrusted to you. Turn away from godlessphilosophical discussions and the contradictions of the 'knowledge' which is not knowledge at al ;	20 Ó Timóteo, guarda o depósito (da fé), evitando as disputas vãs e ímpias e as contradições de uma ciência de falso nome,
21 by adopting this, some have missed the goal of faith. Grace be with you.	21 professando a qual alguns se desviaram da fé. A graça seja convosco!
