Hosea 13

NEW JERUSALEM	Biblia Sagrada
1 When Ephraim used to speak, all trembled; he was a power in Israel; but once he had incurred guiltwith Baal, he died.	1 Cuando hablaba Efraín | inspiraba terror en Israel, | pero se hizo culpable por Baal | y pereció.
2 And now they compound their sins by casting images for themselves out of their silver, idols of theirown invention, the work of craftsmen, al of it! 'Sacrifice to them,' they say! Men bestow kisses to calves!	2 Y sin embargo continúan pecando | y se fabrican estatuas fundidas, | con su plata hacen ídolos, | según su destreza: | todo obra de artesanos. | Se les dice: «Sacrificadle; | hombres besan a becerros».
3 That is why they will be like morning mist, like the dew that quickly disappears, like the chaff whirledfrom the threshing-floor, like smoke escaping through the window.	3 Por eso serán como nube mañanera, | como el rocío que temprano se disipa, | como paja que se arremolina lejos de la era, | como humo que escapa por una abertura.
4 But I have been Yahweh your God since your days in Egypt when you knew no god but me, since youhad no one else to save you.	4 Pero yo soy el Señor, tu Dios, | desde la tierra de Egipto, | y no conoces a otro dios fuera de mí, | ni a otro salvador, sino a mí.
5 I cared for you in the desert, in the land of dreadful drought.	5 Yo te conocí en el desierto, | en una tierra ardiente.
6 I pastured them, and they were satisfied; once satisfied, their hearts grew proud, and therefore theyforgot me.	6 Cuando tenían grano se saciaban, | se saciaban y se ensoberbecía su corazón; | por eso me olvidaron.
7 So now I shal be like a lion to them, like a leopard I shall lurk beside the road,	7 Yo me volví para ellos como un leopardo, | como una pantera espiaba su camino.
8 like a bear robbed of her cubs I shal meet them and rend the membrane of their heart, and there likea lioness I shall eat them, like a wild beast tear them to shreds.	8 Los atacaré como una osa privada de sus crías, | desgarraré las membranas de su corazón, | los devoraré allí mismo como una leona, | una bestia salvaje que los despedaza.
9 Israel, you have destroyed yourself though in me lies your help.	9 Voy a aniquilarte, Israel, | ¿quién será tu ayuda?
10 Your king, where is he now, to save you, or the governors in al your cities? - whom you oncepleaded for, saying, 'Give me a king and princes!'	10 ¿Dónde, dónde está tu rey, | que debía salvarte en todas tus ciudades, | dónde tus jueces, a los que decías: | «Dame un rey y autoridades»?
11 In my anger I gave you a king and in my wrath I have taken him away.	11 Te doy un rey en mi cólera, | y te lo quito en mi furor.
12 Ephraim's guilt is packed away, his sin is locked up.	12 La culpa de Efraín está asegurada, | a buen recaudo su pecado.
13 Pangs as of childbirth overtake him, and a stupid child he is; his time is due, but he does not leavethe womb.	13 Le llegarán los dolores de la parturienta, | pero su hijo será torpe: | cuando llegue el momento, | no acudirá a la salida del seno.
14 Shall I save them from the clutches of Sheol? Shal I buy them back from Death? Where are yourplagues, Death? Where are your scourges, Sheol? Compassion wil be banished from my sight!	14 ¿Los rescataré del poder del Abismo? | ¿Los libraré de la muerte? | ¿Dónde está tu fetidez, muerte? | ¿Dónde está tu contagio, Abismo? | La compasión se oculta a mis ojos.
15 Though Ephraim bears more fruit than his brothers, the wind from the East wil come, Yahweh'sbreath blowing up from the desert to dry his spring, to dry up his fountain, to strip his treasury of everything worthhaving.	15 Aunque florezca entre carrizos, | llegará el viento del este, | el viento del Señor | se levantará desde el desierto, | y secará su manantial, | agotará su fuente; | saqueará su tesoro, | todos los objetos preciosos.
