Sirach 39

NEW JERUSALEM	Sacra Bibbia Garofalo
1 Not so with one who concentrates his mind and his meditation on the Law of the Most High. Heresearches into the wisdom of al the Ancients, he occupies his time with the prophecies.	1 Al contrario chi si applica e va considerando la legge dell’Altissimo, investiga la sapienza di tutti gli antichi e si occupa dei profeti;
2 He preserves the discourses of famous men, he is at home with the niceties of parables.	2 pone attenzione ai racconti di uomini celebri ed entra in merito al giro delle parabole;
3 He researches into the hidden sense of proverbs, he ponders the obscurities of parables.	3 esplora quanto di nascosto è nei proverbi e vive abitualmente negli enigmi delle parabole;
4 He enters the service of princes, he is seen in the presence of rulers. He travels in foreign countries, hehas experienced human good and human evil.	4 sta a disposizione dei grandi e compare davanti ai re e ai magnati; percorre le regioni di genti straniere e sperimenta bene e male tra gli uomini;
5 At dawn and with al his heart he turns to the Lord his Creator; he pleads in the presence of the MostHigh, he opens his mouth in prayer and makes entreaty for his sins.	5 di buon’ora indirizza il cuore verso colui che lo ha fatto e si pone dinanzi all’Altissimo in orazione; apre la bocca nella preghiera e prega per i propri peccati.
6 If such be the wil of the great Lord, he wil be filled with the spirit of intel igence, he wil shower forthwords of wisdom, and in prayer give thanks to the Lord.	6 Se il Signore grande vuole, quegli sarà riempito dello spirito d’intelligenza. Ed ecco egli fa piovere le parole della sua sapienza e questi loda il Signore nella preghiera.
7 He will grow upright in purpose and learning, he will ponder the Lord's hidden mysteries.	7 Egli dirige bene il suo consiglio e la scienza e questi entra nei segreti di lui.
8 He will display the instruction he has received, taking his pride in the Law of the Lord's covenant.	8 Egli mostra la sua dottrina che erudisce e si gloria della legge dell’alleanza del Signore.
9 Many wil praise his intel igence and it wil never be forgotten. His memory will not disappear,generation after generation his name will live.	9 Molti loderanno il suo senno, che non sarà mai dimenticato; non viene meno la memoria di lui e il suo nome sarà ricercato di generazione in generazione.
10 Nations wil proclaim his wisdom, the assembly will celebrate his praises.	10 Le genti racconteranno la sapienza di lui e l'assemblea proclamerà le sue lodi.
11 If he lives long, his name will be more glorious than a thousand others, and if he dies, that wil satisfyhim just as wel .	11 In vita, ha un nome più celebre di mille; passato, poi, al riposo eterno, cresce ancor più.
12 And here are some more of my reflections: yes, I am as ful as the moon at the ful !	12 Voglio esporre ancora le mie riflessioni; poiché ne sono pieno come il plenilunio.
13 Listen to me, devout children, and blossom like the rose that grows on the bank of a watercourse.	13 Porgete orecchio, o figli pii, e germoglierete come rose che crescono presso il ruscello umido;
14 Give off a sweet smel like incense, flower like the lily, spread your fragrance abroad, sing a song ofpraise blessing the Lord for all his works.	14 spandete il profumo come l’incenso e darete fori come gigli. Esalate un profumo ed elevate un canto e benedite il Signore in tutte le sue opere.
15 Declare the greatness of his name, proclaim his praise with song and with lyre, and this is how youmust sing his praises:	15 Magnificate il suo nome e proclamate le sue lodi, con cantici sul nablio e sulla cetra; direte magnificandolo:
16 'How wonderful, the actions of the Lord! Whatever he orders is done at the proper time!' You must notsay, 'What is this? Why is that?' There is a proper time for every question.	16 «Tutte le opere di Dio sono buone e bastano a tempo opportuno per ogni necessità».
17 At his word, the water stops and piles up high, at his voice, the watery reservoirs take shape,	17 Non c’è da dire: «Perché questo e perché quello?» Perché ogni cosa è stata fatta per il suo scopo.
18 at his command, whatever he wants is done, no one can stop him, if he intends to save.	18 Al suo comando si compie ogni volere né c’è ostacolo alla sua salvezza;
19 He can see whatever human beings are doing, nothing can be hidden from his eye;	19 le opere di ogni creatura gli stanno davanti e niente è nascosto ai suoi occhi.
20 his gaze stretches from eternity to eternity, and nothing can astonish him.	20 Egli vede da un’età all’altra: c’è forse un limite alla sua salvezza? Per lui non c’è cosa vile e dappoco né per lui vale ciò che è arduo e forte.
21 You must not say, 'What is this? Why is that?' for everything has been made for a purpose.	21 Non si deve dire: «Questo è peggio di quello», perché ogni cosa vale a suo tempo.
22 As his blessing covers the dry land like a river and soaks it like a flood,	22 La sua benedizione sovrabbonda come il Nilo e irriga la terra come il fiume.
23 so retribution is his legacy to the nations, just as he has turned fresh waters to salt.	23 Così la sua ira espulse le genti e rese salmastra una terra irrigua.
24 His ways are as smooth for the devout, as they are ful of obstacles for the wicked.	24 Le vie di lui sono rette per i buoni ma d’inciampo per i peccatori.
25 Good things were created from the beginning for good people, as bad ones were for sinners.	25 Fin dall’inizio attribuì le cose buone ai buoni; ugualmente ai cattivi il bene e il male.
26 The prime needs of human beings for living are water and fire, iron and salt, wheat-flour, milk andhoney, the juice of the grape, oil and clothing.	26 Necessari per la vita dell’uomo sono l’acqua, il fuoco, il ferro, il sale, il pane di semola, il latte, il miele, il succo dell’uva, l’olio e le vesti:
27 Al these are good for those who are good, but turn out bad for sinners.	27 tutto questo giova ai buoni e si volge in male per i cattivi.
28 Some winds have been created for punishing, in his fury, he uses them as scourges; on the day ofdoom, they unleash their violence and appease the wrath of their Creator.	28 Ci sono venti creati per punire e che con la loro furia trasporterebbero montagne: nell’ora della distruzione si riverseranno con violenza e placheranno l’ira di colui che li ha fatti.
29 Fire and hail, famine and death, have al been created for punishing.	29 Fuoco e grandine, fame e peste: anch’essi furono creati per la vendetta.
30 Wild animals' fangs, scorpions, vipers, the avenging sword for the ruin of the godless:	30 Bestie feroci, scorpioni e vipere e la spada per punire fino alla distruzione gli empi. Tutto ciò fu creato per uno scopo ed è in riserva per un tempo opportuno.
31 all of them exult in discharging his orders, ready on earth whenever the need arises and, when theirtime comes, not fal ing short of his word.	31 Quando comanderà loro, sussulteranno; e, nel loro compito, non resisteranno alla sua richiesta.
32 That is why I was determined from the outset, why I have pondered and why I have written,	32 Perciò da principio ne ebbi certezza, lo compresi e lo consegnai allo scritto:
33 'The works of the Lord are all good, when the time is right, he gives whatever is needed.	33 «Tutte le opere di Dio sono buone; esse vengono concesse a tempo per ogni necessità».
34 You must not say, "This is worse than that," for, sooner or later, everything proves its worth.	34 Non bisogna dire: «Questo è peggio di quello», perché ogni cosa vale a suo tempo.
35 So now, sing with al your heart and voice, and bless the name of the Lord!'	35 Ora dunque datevi al giubilo con tutto il cuore e benedite il nome del Santo!
