You who live in the secret place of Elyon, spend your nights in the shelter of Shaddai, | 1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. |
saying to Yahweh, 'My refuge, my fortress, my God in whom I trust!' | 2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. |
He rescues you from the snare of the fowler set on destruction; | 3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. |
he covers you with his pinions, you find shelter under his wings. His constancy is shield andprotection. | 4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. |
You need not fear the terrors of night, the arrow that flies in the daytime, | 5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; |
the plague that stalks in the darkness, the scourge that wreaks havoc at high noon. | 6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. |
Though a thousand fal at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, you yourself wil remainunscathed. | 7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. |
You have only to keep your eyes open to see how the wicked are repaid, | 8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. |
you who say, 'Yahweh my refuge!' and make Elyon your fortress. | 9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; |
No disaster can overtake you, no plague come near your tent; | 10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. |
he has given his angels orders about you to guard you wherever you go. | 11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. |
They will carry you in their arms in case you trip over a stone. | 12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. |
You wil walk upon wild beast and adder, you wil trample young lions and snakes. | 13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. |
'Since he clings to me I rescue him, I raise him high, since he acknowledges my name. | 14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. |
He cal s to me and I answer him: in distress I am at his side, I rescue him and bring him honour. | 15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. |
I shal satisfy him with long life, and grant him to see my salvation.' | 16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation. |
