Genesis 21

1 Yahweh treated Sarah as he had said, and did what he had promised her.	1 Poi Jahvè visitò Sara, come aveva detto, e Jahvè fece a Sara come aveva promesso.
2 Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the time God had promised.	2 Sara concepì e partorì ad Abramo un figlio nella sua vecchiaia, nel tempo che Dio aveva fissato.
3 Abraham named the son born to him Isaac, the son to whom Sarah had given birth.	3 Abramo chiamò Isacco il figlio che gli era nato, che Sara gli aveva partorito.
4 Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him.	4 Poi Abramo circoncise Isacco suo figlio quando questi ebbe otto giorni, secondo quanto Dio gli aveva comandato.
5 Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.	5 Ora, Abramo aveva cento anni quando gli nacque il figlio Isacco.
6 Sarah said: God has given me cause to laugh! Al who hear about this wil laugh with me!	6 Allora Sara disse: «Un oggetto di riso ha fatto per me Dio: tutti coloro che lo sapranno rideranno per me!»
7 She added: Whoever would have told Abraham that Sarah would nurse children! Yet I have borne ason in his old age.	7 Poi disse: «Chi avrebbe mai detto ad Abramo che Sara avrebbe allattato una figliolanza? Eppure ho partorito un figlio alla sua vecchiaia!»
8 The child grew and was weaned, and Abraham gave a great banquet on the day Isaac was weaned.	8 Poi il bambino crebbe e fu svezzato; Abramo imbandì un grande convito nel giorno in cui Isacco fu svezzato.
9 Now Sarah watched the son that Hagar the Egyptian had borne to Abraham, playing with her sonIsaac.	9 Ma Sara vide che il figlio di Hagar l’Egiziana, quello che essa aveva partorito ad Abramo, scherzava con Isacco suo figlio.
10 'Drive away that slave-girl and her son,' she said to Abraham, 'this slave-girl's son is not to share theinheritance with my son Isaac.'	10 Disse allora ad Abramo: «Caccia questa schiava e suo figlio, perché il figlio di questa schiava non deve essere erede con Isacco mio figlio».
11 This greatly distressed Abraham, because the slave-girl's child too was his son,	11 La cosa dispiacque molto agli occhi di Abramo a causa di suo figlio.
12 but God said to him, 'Do not distress yourself on account of the boy and your slave-girl. Do whateverSarah says, for Isaac is the one through whom your name wil be carried on.	12 Ma Dio disse ad Abramo: «Non dispiaccia questo ai tuoi occhi, per riguardo al fanciullo e alla tua schiava: in tutto quanto ti dice Sara ascolta la sua voce perché per Isacco tu darai nome a una discendenza.
13 But the slave-girl's son I shal also make into a great nation, for he too is your child.'	13 Ma io farò diventare una grande nazione anche il figlio della schiava, perché è tua discendenza».
14 Early next morning, Abraham took some bread and a skin of water and, giving them to Hagar, putthe child on her shoulder and sent her away. She wandered off into the desert of Beersheba.	14 Allora Abramo si alzò di mattina per tempo, prese un po’ di pane e un otre di acqua e li diede ad Hagar, caricandoglieli sulle spalle insieme con il fanciullo, e così la mandò via. Essa andò errando per il deserto di Bersabea,
15 When the skin of water was finished she abandoned the child under a bush.	15 finché non si esaurì l’acqua dell’otre. Allora essa depose il fanciullo sotto un cespuglio
16 Then she went and sat down at a distance, about a bowshot away, thinking, 'I cannot bear to see thechild die.' Sitting at a distance, she began to sob.	16 e andò a sedersi di fronte, alla distanza di un tiro d’arco, perché diceva: «Non voglio vedere quando il fanciullo morirà!» Quando essa si fu seduta di fronte, egli alzò la voce e pianse.
17 God heard the boy crying, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven. 'What is wrong,Hagar?' he asked. 'Do not be afraid, for God has heard the boy's cry in his plight.	17 Ma Dio udì la voce del fanciullo: un angelo di Dio chiamò Hagar dal cielo e le disse: «Che cosa hai tu, Hagar? Non temere perché Dio ha udito la voce del fanciullo là dove si trova.
18 Go and pick the boy up and hold him safe, for I shal make him into a great nation.'	18 Alzati, solleva il fanciullo e tienilo saldo per mano, perché io ne farò una grande nazione!»
19 Then God opened Hagar's eyes and she saw a well, so she went and fil ed the skin with water andgave the boy a drink.	19 Dio le aprì gli occhi ed essa vide un pozzo d’acqua. Allora andò a riempire di acqua l’otre e fece bere il fanciullo.
20 God was with the boy. He grew up and made his home in the desert, and he became an archer.	20 Poi Dio fu con il fanciullo che crebbe, abitò nel deserto e divenne un tiratore d’arco.
21 He made his home in the desert of Paran, and his mother got him a wife from Egypt.	21 Egli abitò nel deserto di Paran e sua madre gli diede una moglie della terra d’Egitto.
22 About then, Abimelech and Phicol, the commander of his army, said to Abraham, 'Since God is withyou in everything you do,	22 In quel tempo Abimelech e Pichol, capo del suo esercito, dissero ad Abramo: «Dio è con te in tutto ciò che fai.
23 swear to me by God, here and now, that you wil not act treacherously towards me or my kith andkin, but behave with the same faithful love to me and the land of which you are a guest as I have behaved toyou.'	23 Ebbene, giurami qui per Dio che tu non ingannerai né me né la mia prole e la mia discendenza; come io ho agito amichevolmente con te così tu agirai con me e con il paese nel quale soggiorni da forestiero».
24 'Yes,' Abraham replied, 'I swear it.'	24 Rispose Abramo: «Io lo giuro!»
25 Abraham then reproached Abimelech about a well that Abimelech's servants had seized.	25 Però Abramo rimproverò Abimelech per la questione di un pozzo d’acqua che i servitori di Abimelech avevano usurpato.
26 'I do not know who has done this,' Abimelech said. 'You yourself have never mentioned it to me and,for myself, I heard nothing of it til today.'	26 Abimelech disse: «Io non so chi abbia fatto questa cosa: tu non mi hai informato e io ho sentito parlare di ciò soltanto oggi».
27 Abraham then took sheep and cattle and presented them to Abimelech, and the two of them made acovenant.	27 Allora Abramo prese bestiame minuto e bestiame grosso, li diede ad Abimelech; tra loro due conclusero un patto.
28 Abraham put seven lambs of the flock on one side.	28 Poi Abramo mise in disparte sette agnelle del gregge.
29 'Why have you put these seven lambs on one side?' Abimelech asked Abraham.	29 Abimelech disse ad Abramo: «Che ci stanno a fare queste sette agnelle che hai messo in disparte?»
30 He replied, 'You must accept these seven lambs from me as evidence that I have dug this wel .'	30 Rispose: «Tu accetterai queste sette agnelle dalla mia mano, perché mi valgano di testimonianza che io ho scavato questo pozzo».
31 This was why the place was cal ed Beersheba: because there the two of them swore an oath.	31 Perciò quel luogo si chiamò Bersabea, perché vi fecero giuramento ambedue.
32 After they had made a covenant at Beersheba, Abimelech and Phicol, the commander of his army,left and went back to Philistine territory.	32 Conclusero il patto a Bersabea; poi Abimelech e Pichol, capo del suo esercito, si levarono e ritornarono nel paese dei Filistei.
33 And Abraham planted a tamarisk at Beersheba and there he invoked the name of Yahweh.	33 Poi Abramo piantò tamerici in Bersabea e là invocò il nome di Jahvè, Dio dell’eternità.
34 Abraham stayed for a long while in Philistine territory.	34 Abramo soggiornò come forestiero nel paese dei Filistei per molto tempo.
