2 Listen, God, to my prayer; do not hide from my pleading;	2 Ascolta, o Dio, la mia preghiera e non ti nascondere dalla mia implorazione;
3 hear me and give answer. I rock with grief; I groan	3 prestami attenzione ed esaudiscimi: sono in ansia nella mia tristezza e sono turbato
4 at the uproar of the enemy, the clamor of the wicked. They heap trouble upon me, savagely accuse me.	4 alle grida del nemico, al clamore del malvagio; poiché essi fanno cadere su di me sventure e con rabbia mi avversano.
5 My heart pounds within me; death's terrors fall upon me.	5 Il mio cuore trema nel mio petto, e terrori di morte si sono abbattuti su di me.
6 Fear and trembling overwhelm me; shuddering sweeps over me.	6 Timore e tremore vengono dentro di me e l'orrore mi sommerge.
7 I say, "If only I had wings like a dove that I might fly away and find rest.	7 Per questo dico: "Oh, se avessi le ali! Come aquila volerei in cerca di riposo.
8 Far away I would flee; I would stay in the desert. Selah	8 Ecco: lontano fuggirei per starmene nel deserto.
9 I would soon find a shelter from the raging wind and storm."	9 Vorrei là fuggire dov'è per me uno scampo, al riparo dal vento che infuria, lontano da ogni tempesta".
10 Lord, check and confuse their scheming. I see violence and strife in the city	10 Disperdili, o Signore, confondi le loro lingue, poiché violenza vedo e rissa nella città;
11 making rounds on its walls day and night. Within are mischief and evil;	11 giorno e notte la circondano al di sopra delle sue mura, in essa regnano malvagità e nequizia.
12 treachery is there as well; oppression and fraud never leave its streets.	12 Insidie regnano nel suo interno e non si allontanano dalla sua piazza oppressione e frode.
13 If an enemy had reviled me, that I could bear; If my foe had viewed me with contempt, from that I could hide.	13 Certo, non è un nemico che m'insulta: lo potrei sopportare. Non è chi mi odia che su di me s'inorgoglisce: mi potrei nascondere da lui.
14 But it was you, my other self, my comrade and friend,	14 Ma tu, uomo a me pari, a me amico e familiare...
15 You, whose company I enjoyed, at whose side I walked in procession in the house of God.	15 Un dolce colloquio era fra noi, in letizia camminavamo nella casa di Dio.
16 Let death take them by surprise; let them go down alive to Sheol, for evil is in their homes and hearts.	16 S'abbatta la morte su di loro, scendano vivi negli inferi, poiché v'è nequizia dentro le loro dimore.
17 But I will call upon God, and the LORD will save me.	17 Io invoco il Signore ed egli mi salverà.
18 At dusk, dawn, and noon I will grieve and complain, and my prayer will be heard.	18 Sera e mattino e mezzodì voglio gemere e sospirare, affinché oda la mia voce;
19 God will give me freedom and peace from those who war against me, though there are many who oppose me.	19 riscatterà in pace l'anima mia da coloro che mi assalgono, poiché in molti si sono levati contro di me.
20 God, who sits enthroned forever, will hear me and humble them. For they will not mend their ways; they have no fear of God.	20 Ascolterà Dio e li umilierà egli che troneggia dall'eternità; poiché non ci sono per loro mutamenti: non temono Dio.
21 They strike out at friends and go back on their promises.	21 Alzò le sue mani contro i suoi alleati, infranse il suo patto.
22 Softer than butter is their speech, but war is in their hearts. Smoother than oil are their words, but they are unsheathed swords.	22 Morbida più che burro è la sua bocca, guerra è invece nel suo cuore; molli sono le sue parole più che olio, esse invece sono spade affilate.
23 Cast your care upon the LORD, who will give you support. God will never allow the righteous to stumble.	23 Getta sul Signore il tuo affanno, ed egli ti sosterrà: non lascerà che in eterno vacilli il giusto.
24 But you, God, will bring them down to the pit of destruction. These bloodthirsty liars will not live half their days, but I put my trust in you.	24 E tu, o Dio, li farai discendere nel profondo della fossa, gli uomini di sangue e di frode non raggiungeranno la metà dei loro giorni. Io invece mi voglio rifugiare in te.
