1 Some time afterward, Joseph was informed, "Your father is failing." So he took along with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.	1 Passadas assim estas coisas, foi anunciado a José que seu pai estava doente, e ele, tomando consigo os dois filhos, Manassés e Efraim, foi vê-lo.
2 When Jacob was told, "Your son Joseph has come to you," he rallied his strength and sat up in bed.	2 Disseram ao velho: Teu filho José vem visitar-te. Ele, reunidas as suas forças, sentou-se sobre o leito.
3 Jacob then said to Joseph: "God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessing me,	3 Logo que (José) entrou, disse-lhe: O Deus Omnipotente apareceu-me em Luza, que é a terra de Canaan, abençoou-me
4 he said, 'I will make you fertile and numerous and raise you into an assembly of tribes, and I will give this land to your descendants after you as a permanent possession.'	4 e disse: Eu te aumentarei e multiplicarei, e farei de ti uma multidão de povos: darei esta terra a ti e à tua descendência depois de ti, para sempre.
5 Your two sons, therefore, who were born to you in the land of Egypt before I joined you here, shall be mine; Ephraim and Manasseh shall be mine as much as Reuben and Simeon are mine.	5 Portanto os teus dois filhos, que te nasceram na terra do Egito, antes que eu para aqui viesse ter contigo, serão meus: Efraim e Manassés serão considerados meus (filhos), como Ruben e Simeão.
6 Progeny born to you after them shall remain yours; but their heritage shall be recorded in the names of their two brothers.	6 Mas os outro, que tiveres depois destes, serão teus, e serão chamados com o nome de seus irmãos nas suas possessões.
7 I do this because, when I was returning from Paddan, your mother Rachel died, to my sorrow, during the journey in Canaan, while we were still a short distance from Ephrath; and I buried her there on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem)."	7 Quando eu voltava da Mesopotâmia, morreu-me Raquel na terra de Canaan, mesmo durante a viagem, na Primavera; eu estava para entrar em Efrata, e enterrei-a junto do caminho de Efrata, que, por outro nome, se chama Belém,
8 When Israel saw Joseph's sons, he asked, "Who are these?"	8 Vendo Israel os filhos (de José), disse-lhe: Quem são estes?
9 "They are my sons," Joseph answered his father, "whom God has given me here." "Bring them to me," said his father, "that I may bless them."	9 (José) respondeu: São os meus filhos, que Deus me deu aqui. Faze-os aproximar de mim, disse (Jacob), para que eu os abençoe.
10 (Now Israel's eyes were dim from age, and he could not see well.) When Joseph brought his sons close to him, he kissed and embraced them.	10 Com efeito. Os olhos de Israel se tinham escurecido por causa da grande velhice, e não podia ver claramente. José aproximou-os, e ele, beijando-os, e abraçando-os
11 Then Israel said to Joseph, "I never expected to see your face again, and now God has allowed me to see your descendants as well!"	11 disse a seu filho: Não fui privado de te ver, e, além disso, Deus mostrou-me a tua geração.
12 Joseph removed them from his father's knees and bowed down before him with his face to the ground.	12 José, tendo-os tirado de entre os joelhos do pai, inclinou-se profundamente por terra.
13 Then Joseph took the two, Ephraim with his right hand, to Israel's left, and Manasseh with his left hand, to Israel's right, and led them to him.	13 Em seguida pôs Efraim à sua direita, isto é, à esquerda de Israel, e Manassés à sua esquerda, isto é, à direita de seu pai, e fez que ambos se aproximassem dele.
14 But Israel, crossing his hands, put out his right hand and laid it on the head of Ephraim, although he was the younger, and his left hand on the head of Manasseh, although he was the first-born.	14 Israel, estendendo a mão direita, pô-la sobre a cabeça de Efraim, irmão mais novo, e a esquerda sobre a cabeça de Manassés, o mais velho, cruzando, assim as mãos.
15 Then he blessed them with these words: "May the God in whose ways my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, The God who has been my shepherd from my birth to this day,	15 Jacob abençoou José (nos seus filhos), dizendo: O Deus, em cuja presença andaram meus pais Abraão e Isaac, o Deus que me sustentou desde a minha mocidade até este dia,
16 The Angel who has delivered me from all harm, bless these boys That in them my name be recalled, and the names of my fathers, Abraham and Isaac, And they may become teeming multitudes upon the earth!"	16 o Anjo, que me livrou de todos os males, abençoe estes meninos; que eles sejam chamados com o meu nome, e também com os nomes de meus pais Abraão e Isaac, e se multipliquem em abundância sobre a terra.
17 When Joseph saw that his father had laid his right hand on Ephraim's head, this seemed wrong to him; so he took hold of his father's hand, to remove it from Ephraim's head to Manasseh's,	17 José, vendo que o pai tinha posto a mão direita sobre a cabeça de Efraim, teve com isto grande pena, e, pegando na mão de seu pai, procurava afastá-la da cabeça de Efraim, e levá-la sobre a cabeça de Manassés.
18 saying, "That is not right, father; the other one is the first-born; lay your right hand on his head!"	18 Disse ao pai; Não está assim bem, pai: visto que este é o primogênito, põe a tua direita sobre sua cabeça.
19 But his father resisted. "I know it, son," he said, "I know. That one too shall become a tribe, and he too shall be great. Nevertheless, his younger brother shall surpass him, and his descendants shall become a multitude of nations."	19 Ele, porém, recusando, disse: Eu o sei, meu filho, eu o sei: este também será chefe de povos, e se multiplicará, mas seu irmão mais novo será maior do que ele, e a sua descendência se tornará uma multidão de nações.
20 So when he blessed them that day and said, "By you shall the people of Israel pronounce blessings; may they say, 'God make you like Ephraim and Manasseh,'" he placed Ephraim before Manasseh.	20 Então os abençoou, dizendo: Por ti será bendito Israel, quando se disser: Deus te faça como Efraim e como Manassés. E pôs Efraim adiante de Manassés.
21 Then Israel said to Joseph: "I am about to die. But God will be with you and will restore you to the land of your fathers.	21 Disse a seu filho José: Vou morrer, mas Deus será convosco e vos reconduzirá à terra de vossos pais.
22 As for me, I give to you, as to the one above his brothers, Shechem, which I captured from the Amorites with my sword and bow."	22 Eu te dou, de mais que a teus irmãos, aquela parte que ganhei da mão dos Amorreus, com a espada e com o meu arco.
