1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.	1 Trachtet nach der Liebe! Bemüht euch um Geistesgaben, vorzüglich um prophetisches Reden!
2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.	2 Wer nämlich in Zungen redet. der redet nicht zu Menschen, sondern zu Gott; denn niemand versteht ihn; im Geiste spricht er Geheimnisvolles.
3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.	3 Wer aber prophetisch redet, der redet für Menschen zur Erbauung, Ermahnung und Tröstung.
4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.	4 Wer in Zungen redet, erbaut sich selbst; wer aber prophetisch redet, erbaut die Gemeinde.
5 I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.	5 Ich wünschte zwar, ihr möchtet alle in Zungen reden, mehr aber noch, ihr möchtet prophetisch reden; höher steht der prophetisch Redende als der in Zungen Redende, es sei denn, daß er die Auslegung gibt, damit die Gemeinde Erbauung empfange.
6 Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?	6 Wenn ich also, Brüder, zu euch komme und in Zungen zu euch rede, was nütze ich euch, wenn ich nicht zu euch spreche in Offenbarung oder in Erkenntnis oder in prophetischer Rede oder in Belehrung?
7 And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped?	7 Wie soll man schon bei unbeseelten Tonwerkzeugen, einer Flöte oder Zither, wenn sie den Tönen keine Unterscheidung geben, das Geblasene oder Gespielte erkennen?
8 For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?	8 Und wenn die Trompete nur einen unklaren Laut hervorbringt, wer wird sich da zum Kampfe rüsten?
9 So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.	9 So ist es auch bei euch. Wenn ihr beim Zungenreden nicht ein deutliches Wort hervorbringt, wie soll man erkennen, was gesagt wird? Ihr werdet in den Wind reden.
10 There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.	10 Es gibt wer weiß wie viele Arten von Sprachen in der Welt, und nichts ist ohne Sprache.
11 Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me.	11 Wenn ich aber die Bedeutung der Sprache nicht kenne, bin ich dem Sprechenden ein Fremdling, und der Sprechende ist mir ein Fremdling.
12 Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.	12 So sollt auch ihr im Eifer für Gaben des Geistes danach streben, an ihnen reich zu sein zur Erbauung der Gemeinde.
13 Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.	13 Wer daher in Zungen redet, der bete auch um die Gabe der Auslegung.
14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.	14 Denn wenn ich in Zungen bete, so betet zwar mein Geist, doch mein Verstand bleibt ohne Frucht.
15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.	15 Was folgt daraus? Beten will ich mit dem Geist, beten aber auch mit dem Verstand, lobsingen will ich mit dem Geist, lobsingen aber auch mit dem Verstand.
16 Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest?	16 Denn wenn du mit dem Geist ein Lobgebet sprichst, wie soll da einer, der als völlig Unkundiger zugegen ist, zu deinem Dankgebet das Amen sagen? Er weiß ja nicht, was du sagst.
17 For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.	17 Du magst ein gutes Dankgebet sprechen, doch der andere wird nicht erbaut.
18 I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:	18 Ich danke [meinem] Gott, daß ich mehr in Zungen rede als ihr alle;
19 Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.	19 doch in der Gemeinde will ich lieber fünf Worte mit meinem Verstande reden, um auch andere zu unterweisen, als zehntausend Worte in Zungen.
20 Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.	20 Brüder, seid nicht Kinder im Verstehen, wohl aber unerfahren in Bosheit; im Verstehen jedoch sollt ihr vollkommen sein.
21 In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.	21 Im Gesetze ist geschrieben: "Durch Anderssprechende und durch die Lippen von Fremden werde ich reden zu diesem Volk; doch nicht einmal so werden sie herhören auf mich, spricht der Herr" (Is 28,11).
22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.	22 So sind also die Zungen zum Zeichen nicht für die Gläubigen, sondern für die Ungläubigen; die prophetische Rede aber ist nicht für die Ungläubigen, sondern für die Gläubigen.
23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?	23 Wenn nun die ganze Gemeinde am gleichen Ort zusammenkommt, und es reden alle in Zungen, werden da Unkundige oder Ungläubige, die eintreten, nicht sagen: "Ihr seid von Sinnen"?
24 But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:	24 Wenn aber alle prophetisch reden, und es tritt ein Ungläubiger oder ein Unkundiger ein, so wird er zurechtgewiesen von allen und von allen ins Gericht genommen;
25 And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.	25 das Verborgene seines Herzens wird offenbar und er wird niederfallen auf sein Angesicht und Gott anbeten und bekennen, daß Gott wahrhaft in euch ist.
26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, everyone of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.	26 Was folgt nun daraus, Brüder? Wenn ihr zusammenkommt, und der einzelne hat einen Lobgesang, eine Lehre oder eine Offenbarung oder eine Zungenrede oder eine Auslegung, so geschehe alles zur Erbauung.
27 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.	27 Redet jemand in Zungen, so seien es ihrer zwei, höchstens drei, und zwar nacheinander, und einer lege es aus.
28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.	28 Ist aber niemand zum Auslegen da, so schweige man in der Versammlung; man spreche zu sich selbst und zu Gott.
29 Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.	29 Als Propheten sollen ihrer zwei oder drei reden, und die übrigen mögen es prüfen.
30 If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace.	30 Wird aber einem andern, der dasitzt, eine Offenbarung zuteil, so soll der erste schweigen.
31 For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.	31 Denn ihr könnt alle, einer nach dem andern, prophetisch reden, damit alle lernen und alle ermahnt werden.
32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.	32 Auch Geister von Propheten sind den Propheten untertan.
33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.	33 Denn Gott ist nicht ein Gott der Unordnung, sondern des Friedens. Wie bei allen Gemeinden der Heiligen
34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.	34 sollen die Frauen in den Versammlungen schweigen; denn es ist ihnen nicht gestattet zu reden, sondern sie sollen sich unterordnen, wie auch das Gesetz es sagt.
35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.	35 Wollen sie aber Auskunft in etwas, so mögen sie zu Hause ihre Männer fragen; denn es steht der Frau nicht gut an, in der Versammlung zu reden.
36 What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?	36 Oder ist etwa Gottes Wort von euch ausgegangen? Oder kam es allein zu euch?
37 If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.	37 Glaubt jemand, ein Prophet zu sein oder ein Geistbegabter, der anerkenne, was ich euch schreibe, als ein Gebot des Herrn!
38 But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.	38 Wer es mißachtet, wird mißachtet werden.
39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.	39 Darum, Brüder, bemüht euch um prophetisches Reden, und verhindert das Zungenreden nicht!
40 Let all things be done decently and in order.	40 Alles aber geschehe in Würde und Ordnung.
