1 How is the gold become dim! how is the most fine gold changed! the stones of the sanctuary are poured out in the top of every street.	1 Come si è offuscato l’oro, si è alterato l’oro più puro. Sono disperse le pietre sante all’inizio di tutte le vie.
2 The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how are they esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!	2 I figli di Sion, preziosi, valutati come l’oro fino, come mai sono ritenuti vasi di creta, pera delle mani del vasaio?
3 Even the sea monsters draw out the breast, they give suck to their young ones: the daughter of my people is become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.	3 Perfino gli sciacalli porgono le mammelle e allattano i piccoli, ma la figlia del mio popolo è divenuta crudele come gli struzzi nel deserto.
4 The tongue of the sucking child cleaveth to the roof of his mouth for thirst: the young children ask bread, and no man breaketh it unto them.	4 Si attaccò la lingua del lattante al palato per la sete; i bambini chiesero pane, non c’era chi lo spezzasse loro.
5 They that did feed delicately are desolate in the streets: they that were brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills.	5 Coloro che si cibavano di leccornie languirono lungo le strade; coloro che erano portati sulla abbracciarono il letamaio.
6 For the punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands stayed on her.	6 Grande fu l’iniquità della figlia del mio popolo maggiore del peccato di Sodoma, la quale fu distrutta in un attimo, senza fatica di mani.
7 Her Nazarites were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more ruddy in body than rubies, their polishing was of sapphire:	7 I suoi giovani erano più splendenti della neve, più candidi del latte; avevano il corpo più vermiglio dei coralli era zaffiro la loro figura.
8 Their visage is blacker than a coal; they are not known in the streets: their skin cleaveth to their bones; it is withered, it is become like a stick.	8 Ora il loro aspetto si è oscurato più della fuliggine, non si riconoscono più nelle strade; si aggrinzì sulle ossa la loro pelle, secca è divenuta come un legno.
9 They that be slain with the sword are better than they that be slain with hunger: for these pine away, stricken through for want of the fruits of the field.	9 Sono stati più felici i trafitti di spada che i morti di fame, i quali vengono meno estenuati, per mancanza dei prodotti del campo.
10 The hands of the pitiful women have sodden their own children: they were their meat in the destruction of the daughter of my people.	10 Mani di donne pietose hanno cotto i loro bambini, che sono serviti di cibo nel disastro della figlia del mio popolo.
11 The LORD hath accomplished his fury; he hath poured out his fierce anger, and hath kindled a fire in Zion, and it hath devoured the foundations thereof.	11 Jahvè ha esaurito la sua collera, ha riversato la sua ira ardente; ha acceso in Sion un fuoco, che ne ha divorato anche le fondamenta.
12 The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not have believed that the adversary and the enemy should have entered into the gates of Jerusalem.	12 Non credevano i re della terra e tutti gli abitanti del mondo che l’avversario e il nemico sarebbero penetrati nelle porte di Gerusalemme.
13 For the sins of her prophets, and the iniquities of her priests, that have shed the blood of the just in the midst of her,	13 Fu effetto dei peccati dei suoi profeti, delle iniquità dei suoi sacerdoti, che versavano dentro di lei il sangue dei giusti.
14 They have wandered as blind men in the streets, they have polluted themselves with blood, so that men could not touch their garments.	14 Costoro barcollavano come ciechi nelle vie, lordi di sangue, così che non si potevano toccare le loro vesti.
15 They cried unto them, Depart ye; it is unclean; depart, depart, touch not: when they fled away and wandered, they said among the heathen, They shall no more sojourn there.	15 «Allontanatevi! Un impuro!», si gridava per essi, «Allontanatevi! Non toccate!» Se fuggivano barcollanti fra le nazioni, non potevano dimorarvi.
16 The anger of the LORD hath divided them; he will no more regard them: they respected not the persons of the priests, they favoured not the elders.	16 La faccia di Jahvè li ha dispersi, egli non volgerà a essi lo sguardo; non si è portato rispetto ai sacerdoti, non si è avuto pietà degli anziani.
17 As for us, our eyes as yet failed for our vain help: in our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save us.	17 Di nuovo si consumavano i nostri occhi, in cerca di un vano soccorso. Dal nostro osservatorio spiavamo una nazione che non poteva salvarci.
18 They hunt our steps, that we cannot go in our streets: our end is near, our days are fulfilled; for our end is come.	18 Si diede la caccia ai nostri passi, impedendoci di andare per le nostre piazze; «Prossima è la nostra fine; sono compiuti i nostri giorni, perché è arrivata la nostra fine».
19 Our persecutors are swifter than the eagles of the heaven: they pursued us upon the mountains, they laid wait for us in the wilderness.	19 I nostri inseguitori erano più veloci delle aquile del cielo; su i monti ci inseguirono, nel deserto ci tesero agguati.
20 The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the LORD, was taken in their pits, of whom we said, Under his shadow we shall live among the heathen.	20 Il nostro alito vitale, l’unto di Jahvè, è stato preso nelle loro fosse, lui, di cui dicevamo: «Alla sua ombra vivremo fra le nazioni».
21 Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of Uz; the cup also shall pass through unto thee: thou shalt be drunken, and shalt make thyself naked.	21 Esulta pure, gioisci, figlia di Edom, che abiti nella terra di Uz; ma fino a te passerà il calice, ti inebrierai e ti denuderai.
22 The punishment of thine iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion; he will no more carry thee away into captivity: he will visit thine iniquity, O daughter of Edom; he will discover thy sins.	22 È espiata la tua iniquità, figlia di Sion, cel non ti manderà più in esilio; ma punirà la tua iniquità, figlia di Edom, scoprirà i tuoi peccati.
