Sirach 39

1 But he that giveth his mind to the law of the most High, and is occupied in the meditation thereof, will seek out the wisdom of all the ancient, and be occupied in prophecies.	1 Outrotanto não sucede com o que aplica o seu espirito à lei do Altíssimo e nela medita. Investiga a sabedoria de todos os antigos, e dedica-se ao estudo dos profetas. Conserva no seu coração as narrações dos homens célebres, e penetra também nas subtilezas das parábolas.
2 He will keep the sayings of the renowned men: and where subtil parables are, he will be there also.
3 He will seek out the secrets of grave sentences, and be conversant in dark parables.	3 Indaga o sentido oculto dos provérbios, e ocupa-se dos enigmas das parábolas.
4 He shall serve among great men, and appear before princes: he will travel through strange countries; for he hath tried the good and the evil among men.	4 serve no meio dos grandes, e aparece diante do que governa. Percorre a terra de nações estranhas, para reconhecer o que há de bom e mau entre os homens.
5 He will give his heart to resort early to the Lord that made him, and will pray before the most High, and will open his mouth in prayer, and make supplication for his sins.
6 When the great Lord will, he shall be filled with the spirit of understanding: he shall pour out wise sentences, and give thanks unto the Lord in his prayer.	6 Aplica o seu coração a velar de madrugada, ante o Senhor que o criou, e na presença do Altíssimo faz a sua oração. Abre a sua boca para orar, e pede perdão de seus pecados.
7 He shall direct his counsel and knowledge, and in his secrets shall he meditate.
8 He shall shew forth that which he hath learned, and shall glory in the law of the covenant of the Lord.	8 Se o soberano Senhor assim o quiser, enchê-lo-á do espirito de inteligência,
9 Many shall commend his understanding; and so long as the world endureth, it shall not be blotted out; his memorial shall not depart away, and his name shall live from generation to generation.	9 e, então, ele derramará as palavras da sua sabedoria como chuva, e na oração louvará o Senhor.
10 Nations shall shew forth his wisdom, and the congregation shall declare his praise.	10 Regulará os seus conselhos e instruções e meditará nos segredos de Deus.
11 If he die, he shall leave a greater name than a thousand: and if he live, he shall increase it.	11 Exporá publicamente a doutrina que aprendeu e fará consistir a sua glória na lei da aliança do Senhor.
12 Yet have I more to say, which I have thought upon; for I am filled as the moon at the full.	12 Muitos louvarão a sua sabedoria, que jamais ficará no esquecimento.
13 Hearken unto me, ye holy children, and bud forth as a rose growing by the brook of the field:	13 Não perecerá a sua memória, e o seu nome será repetido de geração em geração.
14 And give ye a sweet savour as frankincense, and flourish as a lily, send forth a smell, and sing a song of praise, bless the Lord in all his works.	14 As nações publicarão a sua sabedoria, e a assembleia publicará o seu louvor.
15 Magnify his name, and shew forth his praise with the songs of your lips, and with harps, and in praising him ye shall say after this manner:	15 Enquanto viver, terá maior reputação do que mil outros, e, quando repousar, a sua fama aumentará com isso.
16 All the works of the Lord are exceeding good, and whatsoever he commandeth shall be accomplished in due season.	16 Quero ainda continuar a expor as minhas reflexões, porque estou cheio de entusiasmo.
17 And none may say, What is this? wherefore is that? for at time convenient they shall all be sought out: at his commandment the waters stood as an heap, and at the words of his mouth the receptacles of waters.	17 Uma voz me diz; Ouvi-me vós, que sois rebentos divinos, e, como rosal plantado sobre as correntes das águas, frutificai.
18 At his commandment is done whatsoever pleaseth him; and none can hinder, when he will save.	18 Difundi um cheiro suave como o Líbano.
19 The works of all flesh are before him, and nothing can be hid from his eyes.	19 Dai flores como o lírio, exalai perfume, lançai graciosos ramos, entoai cantos de louvor e bem-dizei o Senhor nas suas obras.
20 He seeth from everlasting to everlasting; and there is nothing wonderful before him.	20 Proclamai magnificentemente o seu nome, glorificai-o com a voz dos vossos lábios, com os cânticos da vossa boca e ao som das harpas. Direis assim em seu louvor:
21 A man need not to say, What is this? wherefore is that? for he hath made all things for their uses.	21 Todas as obras do Senhor são muito boas.
22 His blessing covered the dry land as a river, and watered it as a flood.	22 À sua voz conteve-se a água como um montão, a uma palavra da sua boca, as águas recolheram-se como em reservatórios.
23 As he hath turned the waters into saltness: so shall the heathen inherit his wrath.	23 À sua ordem, tudo o que lhe apraz se realiza, e a salvação que ele dá, não será apoucada.
24 As his ways are plain unto the holy; so are they stumblingblocks unto the wicked.	24 Estão à sua vista as acções de todos os homens, não há nada escondido a seus olhos.
25 For the good are good things created from the beginning: so evil things for sinners.	25 O seu olhar estende-se de século em século, e nada é maravilhoso para ele.
26 The principal things for the whole use of man's life are water, fire, iron, and salt, flour of wheat, honey, milk, and the blood of the grape, and oil, and clothing.	26 Não se pode dizer: Que é isto, ou que é aquilo? Com efeito, todas as coisas foram criadas para seus usos.
27 All these things are for good to the godly: so to the sinners they are turned into evil.	27 A sua bênção é como um rio que inunda.
28 There be spirits that are created for vengeance, which in their fury lay on sore strokes; in the time of destruction they pour out their force, and appease the wrath of him that made them.	28 Como o dilúvio inundou a terra, assim a ira do Senhor será a sorte das gentes que o não buscaram.
29 Fire, and hail, and famine, and death, all these were created for vengeance;	29 Assim como ele converteu as águas em secura, e a terra ficou enxuta, e os seus caminhos são dirigidos aos caminhos deles, assim, na sua ira, (esses mesmos caminhos) são, para os pecadores, motivos de queda.
30 Teeth of wild beasts, and scorpions, serpents, and the sword punishing the wicked to destruction.	30 Os bens, desde o princípio, foram criados para os bons, e os males (foram criados) para os maus.
31 They shall rejoice in his commandment, and they shall be ready upon earth, when need is; and when their time is come, they shall not transgress his word.	31 As coisas mais necessárias à vida do homem são; a água, o fogo, o ferro, o sal, o leite, o pão da flor da farinha, o mel, as uvas, o azeite e o vestuário.
32 Therefore from the beginning I was resolved, and thought upon these things, and have left them in writing.	32 Assim como todas estas coisas são um bem para os bons, assim para os ímpios e pecadores se tornam em mal.
33 All the works of the Lord are good: and he will give every needful thing in due season.	33 Há espíritos que foram criados para a vingança, e no seu furor fazem com que os maus sofram continuamente os seus castigos.
34 So that a man cannot say, This is worse than that: for in time they shall all be well approved.	34 No tempo do extermínio eles empregarão a sua força, aplacarão o furor daquele que os criou.
35 And therefore praise ye the Lord with the whole heart and mouth, and bless the name of the Lord.	35 O fogo, a saraiva, a fome e a morte, todas estas coisas foram criadas para castigo,
	36 (como também) os dentes das feras, os escorpiões, as serpentes, e a espada que pune os ímpios até ao extermínio.
	37 (Todas estas coisas) executarão com alegria as ordens do Senhor, estarão prestes sobre a terra no momento necessário, e, chegando o tempo, executarão pontualmente as suas ordens.
	38 Por isso desde o princípio estou convencido disto, que meditei e deixei por escrito.
