when he strove with Aramnaharaim and with Aramzobah, when Joab returned, and smote of Edom in the valley of salt twelve thousand.1 Unto the end. With hymns, of David.
Thou hast made the earth to tremble; thou hast broken it: heal the breaches thereof; for it shaketh.2 O God, pay attention to my supplication. Be attentive to my prayer.
Thou hast shewed thy people hard things: thou hast made us to drink the wine of astonishment.3 I cried out to you from the ends of the earth. When my heart was in anguish, you exalted me on a rock. You have led me,
Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah.4 for you have been my hope, a tower of strength before the face of the enemy.
That thy beloved may be delivered; save with thy right hand, and hear me.5 I will dwell in your tabernacle forever. I will be protected under the cover of your wings.
God hath spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice, I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth.6 For you, my God, have listened to my prayer. You have granted an inheritance to those who fear your name.
Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine; Ephraim also is the strength of mine head; Judah is my lawgiver;7 You will add days to the days of the king, to his years, even to the time of generation after generation.
Moab is my washpot; over Edom will I cast out my shoe: Philistia, triumph thou because of me.8 He remains in eternity, in the sight of God. Who will long for his mercy and truth?
Who will bring me into the strong city? who will lead me into Edom?9 So I will compose a psalm to your name, forever and ever, so that I may repay my vows from day to day.
Wilt not thou, O God, which hadst cast us off? and thou, O God, which didst not go out with our armies?
Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.
Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies.
