1 And Solomon determined to build an house for the name of the LORD, and an house for his kingdom.	1 Egli arruolò settantamila portatori di pesi, ottantamila uomini per tagliare pietre sulla montagna e tremilaseicento loro sorveglianti.
2 And Solomon told out threescore and ten thousand men to bear burdens, and fourscore thousand to hew in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred to oversee them.	2 Salomone poi mandò a dire a Khiram, re di Tiro: «Come tu hai agito con David mio padre inviandogli cedro per edificarsi una casa dove abitare, agisci così anche con me.
3 And Solomon sent to Huram the king of Tyre, saying, As thou didst deal with David my father, and didst send him cedars to build him an house to dwell therein, even so deal with me.	3 lo, infatti, sto per edificare una casa al nome di Jahvè mio Dio e consacrargliela per potere in tale modo bruciare innanzi a lui il profumo dall’odore soave, esporre per sempre i pani della presenza, offrire gli olocausti al mattino e alla sera, nei sabati, nei noviluni e nelle feste di Jahvè nostro Dio, come è imposto per sempre a Israele.
4 Behold, I build an house to the name of the LORD my God, to dedicate it to him, and to burn before him sweet incense, and for the continual shewbread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the solemn feasts of the LORD our God. This is an ordinance for ever to Israel.	4 Ora il tempio, che edificherò, deve essere grande perché il nostro Dio è superiore a tutti gli dèi.
5 And the house which I build is great: for great is our God above all gods.	5 Ma chi avrà la forza di edificargli un tempio dal momento che il cielo più sublime non lo può contenere? E poi chi sono mai io perché gli possa edificare un tempio, anche solo per bruciare profumi innanzi a lui?
6 But who is able to build him an house, seeing the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain him? who am I then, that I should build him an house, save only to burn sacrifice before him?	6 Ebbene, mandami un uomo abile, capace di lavorare l’oro, l’argento, il bronzo, il ferro, le stoffe di porpora, di cremisi e di viola e capace di eseguire intagli; egli lavorerà insieme con gli artisti, che si trovano con me in Giuda e a Gerusalemme e che David mio padre ha preparato.
7 Send me now therefore a man cunning to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and crimson, and blue, and that can skill to grave with the cunning men that are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father did provide.	7 Inviami anche legname di cedro, di cipresso e di sandalo dal Libano; io so infatti che i tuoi servitori sono abili nel tagliare le piante del Libano. Insieme con i tuoi operai lavoreranno anche i miei.
8 Send me also cedar trees, fir trees, and algum trees, out of Lebanon: for I know that thy servants can skill to cut timber in Lebanon; and, behold, my servants shall be with thy servants,	8 Mi occorre però molto legname, poiché il tempio che voglio cedificare sarà grande e meraviglioso.
9 Even to prepare me timber in abundance: for the house which I am about to build shall be wonderful great.	9 Ora a coloro che abbatteranno e taglieranno gli alberi, cioè alla tua gente, io darò per nutrimento ventimila chor di frumento, ventimila chor di orzo, ventimila bar di vino e ventimila bar di olio».
10 And, behold, I will give to thy servants, the hewers that cut timber, twenty thousand measures of beaten wheat, and twenty thousand measures of barley, and twenty thousand baths of wine, and twenty thousand baths of oil.	10 Khiram, re di Tiro, aveva detto in una lettera che aveva inviato a Salomone: «Poiché Jahvè ama il suo popolo, egli ti ha fatto re».
11 Then Huram the king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon, Because the LORD hath loved his people, he hath made thee king over them.	11 Khiram allora rispose: «Benedetto è Jahvè, Dio di Israele, che ha fatto il cielo e la terra! Egli ha concesso anche al re David un figlio saggio, intelligente e accorto per edificare un tempio a Jahvè e una reggia per sé.
12 Huram said moreover, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, that made heaven and earth, who hath given to David the king a wise son, endued with prudence and understanding, that might build an house for the LORD, and an house for his kingdom.	12 Ora, ti mando un uomo abile e accorto: Khuram-Abi.
13 And now I have sent a cunning man, endued with understanding, of Huram my father's,	13 Questi è figlio di una donna della tribù di Dan; suo padre invece era un abitante di Tiro. Sa lavorare l’oro, l’argento, il bronzo, il ferro, le pietre e il legno, e anche le stoffe di porpora rossa e viola, di bisso e le stoffe di cremisi. Eseguirà ogni genere di intagli e ideerà ogni lavoro che gli verrà proposto. Farà tutto questo insieme con i tuoi artisti e con gli artisti del mio signore David tuo padre.
14 The son of a woman of the daughters of Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre, skilful to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stone, and in timber, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in crimson; also to grave any manner of graving, and to find out every device which shall be put to him, with thy cunning men, and with the cunning men of my lord David thy father.	14 Ora il mio signore invii pure alla mia gente il grano, l’orzo, l’olio e il vino, che ha promesso;
15 Now therefore the wheat, and the barley, the oil, and the wine, which my lord hath spoken of, let him send unto his servants:	15 noi poi abbatteremo quanti alberi del Libano ti occorrono e te li porteremo sul mare a mo’ di zattere fino a Giaffa. Tu poi li potrai trasportare a Gerusalemme».
16 And we will cut wood out of Lebanon, as much as thou shalt need: and we will bring it to thee in floats by sea to Joppa; and thou shall carry it up to Jerusalem.	16 Salomone fece contare tutti gli stranieri dimoravano nel territorio di Israele, sebbene David suo padre ne avesse già fatto il censimento. Essi risultarono centocinquantatremilaseicento.
17 And Solomon numbered all the strangers that were in the land of Israel, after the numbering wherewith David his father had numbered them; and they were found an hundred and fifty thousand and three thousand and six hundred.	17 Ne stabilì settantamila come portatori di pesi; ottantamila per tagliare pietre sulla montagne e tremilaseicento come sorveglianti, incaricati di provvedere il lavoro alla gente.
18 And he set threescore and ten thousand of them to be bearers of burdens, and fourscore thousand to be hewers in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred overseers to set the people a work.
