1 Silver hath beginnings of its veins, and gold hath a place wherein it is melted.	1 Há lugares de onde se tira a prata e lugares onde o ouro é apurado.
2 Iron is taken out of the earth, and stone melted with heat is turned into brass.	2 O ferro é extraído do solo e o cobre é extraído de uma pedra fundida.
3 He hath set a time for darkness, and the end of all things he considereth, the stone also that is in the dark and the shadow of death.	3 O homem pôs fim às trevas e escavou as últimas profundidades da rocha obscura e sombria.
4 The flood divideth from the people that are on their journey, those whom the food of the needy man hath forgotten, and who cannot be come at.	4 Longe dos lugares habitados, um povo estrangeiro abre galerias, que são ignoradas pelos pés dos transeuntes. Suspensos, vacilam longe dos humanos.
5 The land, out of which bread grew in its place, hath been overturned with fire.	5 A terra, que produz o pão, é sacudida em suas entranhas como se fosse pelo fogo.
6 The stones of it are the place of sapphires, and the clods of it are gold.	6 Suas rochas encerram jazidas de safiras que contêm pepitas de ouro.
7 The bird hath not known the path, neither hath the eye of the vulture beheld it.	7 A águia não conhece a vereda, nem o olho do abutre a enxergou.
8 The children of the merchants have not trodden it, neither hath the lioness passed by it.	8 Os animais ferozes não a pisaram, nem o leão passou por ela.
9 He hath stretched forth his hand to the flint, he hath overturned mountains from the roots.	9 O homem põe a mão no sílex, derruba as montanhas pela base.
10 In the rocks he hath cut out rivers, and his eye hath seen every precious thing.	10 Abre galerias nos rochedos, o olhar atento pode ver nelas todos os tesouros.
11 The depths also of rivers he hath searched, and hidden things he hath brought forth to light.	11 Explora as nascentes dos rios e põe a descoberto o que estava escondido.
12 But where is wisdom to be found, and where is the place of understanding?	12 Mas a sabedoria onde se encontra? Onde está o lugar da inteligência?
13 Man knoweth not the price thereof, neither is it found in the land of them that live in delights.	13 O homem ignora o caminho dela, ninguém a encontra na terra dos vivos.
14 The depth saith: It is not in me: and the sea saith: It is not with me.	14 O abismo diz: ‘Ela não está em mim’. ‘Não está comigo’, diz o mar.
15 The finest gold shall not purchase it, neither shall silver be weighed in exchange for it	15 Não pode ser adquirida com ouro maciço, nem pode ser comprada a peso de prata.
16 It shall not be compared with the dyed colours of India, or with the most precious stone sardonyx, or the sapphire.	16 Não pode ser posta em balança com o ouro de Ofir, nem com o ônix precioso ou a safira.
17 Gold or crystal cannot equal it, neither shall any vessels of gold be changed for it.	17 Não pode ser comparada nem ao ouro nem ao vidro, ninguém a troca por vaso de ouro fino.
18 High and eminent things shall not be mentioned in comparison of it: but wisdom is drawn out of secret places.	18 Quanto ao coral e ao cristal, nem se fala. A sabedoria vale mais do que as pérolas.
19 The topaz of Ethiopia shall not be equal to it, neither shall it be compared to the cleanest dyeing.	19 Não pode ser igualada ao topázio da Etiópia, nem pode ser equiparada ao mais puro ouro.
20 Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?	20 De onde vem, pois, a sabedoria? Qual é o lugar da inteligência?
21 It is hid from the eyes of all living. and the fowls of the air know it not.	21 Um véu a oculta de todos os viventes e até das aves do céu ela se esconde.
22 Destruction and death have said: With our ears we have heard the fame thereof.	22 Declaram o inferno e a morte: ‘Apenas ouvimos falar dela’.
23 God understandeth the way of it, and he knoweth the place thereof.	23 Deus conhece o caminho para encontrá-la e é ele quem sabe o seu lugar,
24 For he beholdeth the ends of the world: and looketh on all things that are under heaven.	24 porque ele vê até os confins da terra e vê tudo o que há debaixo do céu.
25 Who made a weight for the winds and weighed the waters by measure.	25 Quando ele fixou um peso ao vento e regulou a medida das águas,
26 When he gave a law for the rain, and a way for the sounding storms.	26 quando decretou as leis para a chuva, e traçou uma rota aos relâmpagos,
27 Then he saw it, and declared, and prepared, and searched it.	27 então a viu e a descreveu, penetrou-a e escrutou-a.
28 And he said to man: Behold the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom: and to depart from evil, is understanding.	28 Depois disse ao homem: ‘O temor do Senhor, eis a sabedoria! Fugir do mal, eis a inteligência’.”
