DIODATI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 NON levare un falso grido; non metter mano con l’empio per esser testimonio falso.	1 'You will not spread false rumours. You wil not lend support to the wicked by giving untrue evidence.
2 Non andar dietro a’ grandi per far male; e non dar sentenza in una lite, inchinando a favorire i grandi, per far torto.	2 You will not be led into wrong-doing by the majority nor, when giving evidence in a lawsuit, side withthe majority to pervert the course of justice;
3 Non avere altresì rispetto al povero nella sua lite.	3 nor wil you show partiality to the poor in a lawsuit.
4 Se tu incontri il bue del tuo nemico, o l’asino suo smarrito, del tutto riconduciglielo.	4 'If you come on your enemy's ox or donkey straying, you wil take it back to him.
5 Se tu vedi l’asino di colui che ti odia giacer sotto il suo carico, mentre tu ti rimani di aiutarlo a farglielo andare oltre, del tutto fa’ con lui sì che possa andare oltre.	5 If you see the donkey of someone who hates you fal en under its load, do not stand back; you must goand help him with it.
6 Non far torto al tuo bisognoso nella sua lite.	6 'You will not cheat the poor among you of their rights at law.
7 Allontanati dal parlar falso; e non far morir l’innocente nè il giusto; perciocchè io non assolverò l’empio.	7 Keep clear of fraud. Do not cause the death of the innocent or upright, and do not acquit the guilty.
8 E non prender presenti; perciocchè il presente accieca coloro che hanno chiara vista, e sovverte le parole de’ giusti.	8 You will accept no bribes, for a bribe blinds the clear-sighted and is the ruin of the cause of the upright.
9 E non oppressare il forestiere; perciocchè voi sapete in quale stato è l’anima del forestiere, essendo stati forestieri nel paese di Egitto	9 'You will not oppress the alien; you know how an alien feels, for you yourselves were once aliens inEgypt.
10 Semina la tua terra sei anni, e ricogli il frutto di essa.	10 'For six years you will sow your land and gather its produce,
11 Ma ogni settimo anno lasciala vacare, e in abbandono, e mangino i bisognosi del tuo popolo il frutto di essa; e ciò che rimarrà loro, manginlo le bestie della campagna; fa’ il simigliante alla tua vigna ed a’ tuoi ulivi.	11 but in the seventh year you will let it lie fal ow and forgo al produce from it, so that those of yourpeople who are poor can take food from it and the wild animals eat what they have left. You wil do the samewith your vineyard and your olive grove.
12 Sei giorni fa’ le tue faccende; ma al settimo giorno riposati; acciocchè il tuo bue, e il tuo asino, abbiano requie; e il figliuolo della tua serva, e il forestiere possano respirare.	12 'For six days you wil do your work, and on the seventh you will rest, so that your ox and your donkeymay rest and the child of your slave-girl have a breathing space, and the alien too.
13 E prendete guardia a tutto quello che io vi ho detto; e non ricordate il nome degl’iddii stranieri; non odasi quello nella tua bocca.	13 'Take notice of everything I have told you and do not mention the name of any other god: let noneever be heard from your lips.
14 Celebrami tre feste solenni per anno.	14 'Three times a year you wil hold a festival in my honour.
15 Osserva la festa degli azzimi; mangia pani azzimi per sette giorni, come io ti ho comandato, nel tempo ordinato del mese di Abib; conciossiachè in quel mese tu sii uscito fuori di Egitto; e non comparisca alcuno davanti alla mia faccia vuoto.	15 You wil observe the feast of Unleavened Bread. For seven days you wil eat unleavened bread, as Ihave commanded you, at the appointed time in the month of Abib, for in that month you came out of Egypt. Noone will appear before me empty-handed.
16 Parimente osserva la festa della mietitura, delle primizie de’ tuoi frutti, di ciò che tu avrai seminato nel tuo campo; e la festa della ricolta, all’uscita dell’anno, quando tu avrai ricolti i tuoi frutti d’in sui campi.	16 You wil also observe the feast of Harvest, of the first-fruits of your labours in sowing the fields, andthe feast of Ingathering, at the end of the year, once you have brought the fruits of your labours in from the fields.
17 Tre volte l’anno comparisca ogni maschio tuo davanti alla faccia del Signore, ch’è l’Eterno.	17 Three times a year al your menfolk will appear before Lord Yahweh.
18 Non sacrificare il sangue del mio sacrificio con pan lievitato; e non sia guardato il grasso dell’agnello della mia solennità la notte fino alla mattina.	18 'You wil not offer the blood of my victim with leavened bread, nor wil the fat of my feast be kept tilthe following day.
19 Porta nella Casa del Signore Iddio tuo le primizie de’ primi frutti della tua terra. Non cuocere il capretto nel latte di sua madre	19 'You wil bring the best of the first-fruits of your soil to the house of Yahweh your God. 'You wil notboil a kid in its mother's milk.
20 ECCO, io mando un Angelo davanti a te, per guardarti per lo cammino, e per condurti al luogo che io ho preparato.	20 'Look, I am sending an angel to precede you, to guard you as you go and bring you to the place that Ihave prepared.
21 Guardati, per la sua presenza, e ubbidisci alla sua voce, e non irritarlo; perciocchè egli non vi perdonerà i vostri misfatti; conciossiachè il mio Nome sia in lui.	21 Revere him and obey what he says. Do not defy him: he wil not forgive any wrong-doing on yourpart, for my name is in him.
22 Ma se pure tu ubbidisci alla sua voce, e fai tutto quello che io ti dirò, io sarò nemico de’ tuoi nemici, e avversario dei tuoi avversari.	22 If, however, you obey what he says and do whatever I order, I shal be an enemy to your enemiesand a foe to your foes.
23 Perciocchè l’Angelo mio andrà davanti a te, e t’introdurrà nel paese degli Amorrei, degl’Hittei, dei Ferezei, de’ Cananei, degl’Hivvei, a dei Gebusei; ed io distruggerò que’ popoli.	23 My angel wil precede you and lead you to the home of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, theCanaanites, the Hivites and the Jebusites, whom I shal exterminate.
24 Non adorar gl’iddii loro, e non servir loro; e non far secondo l’opere di quei popoli; anzi distruggi quelli affatto, e del tutto spezza le loro statue.	24 You wil not bow down to their gods or worship them or observe their rites, but throw them down andsmash their cultic stones.
25 E servite al Signore Iddio vostro, ed egli benedirà il tuo pane, e la tua acqua; ed io torrò via ogni infermità dal mezzo di te.	25 You wil worship Yahweh your God, and then I shal bless your food and water, and keep you free ofsickness.
26 E’ non vi sarà nel tuo paese femmina che sperda, nè sterile; io compierò il numero de’ tuoi giorni.	26 In your country no woman will miscarry, none be sterile, and I shall give you your ful term of life.
27 Io manderò davanti a te il mio spavento, e metterò in rotta ogni popolo, nel cui paese tu entrerai, e farò che tutti i tuoi nemici volteran le spalle dinanzi a te.	27 'I shal send terror of myself ahead of you; I shal throw al the peoples you encounter into confusion,and make al your enemies take to their heels.
28 Manderò eziandio davanti a te de’ calabroni, i quali scacceranno gl’Hivvei, i Cananei, e gl’Hittei dal tuo cospetto.	28 I shal send hornets ahead of you to drive Hivite, Canaanite and Hittite out before you.
29 Io non li scaccerò dal tuo cospetto in un anno; che talora il paese non divenga deserto, e che le fiere della campagna non moltiplichino contro a te.	29 I shal not drive them out ahead of you in a single year, or the land might become a desert where wildanimals would multiply to your cost.
30 Io li scaccerò dal tuo cospetto a poco a poco, finchè tu sii cresciuto, e abbi presa la possessione del paese.	30 I shal drive them out little by little before you, until your numbers grow sufficient for you to takepossession of the land.
31 E io porrò i tuoi confini dal mar rosso fino al mar de’ Filistei; e dal deserto fino al Fiume; perciocchè io darò nelle vostre mani gli abitanti del paese, e tu li scaccerai dinanzi a te.	31 And your frontiers I shall fix from the Sea of Reeds to the Sea of the Philistines, and from the desertto the River, for I shal put the inhabitants of the territory at your mercy, and you will drive them out before you.
32 Non far lega alcuna con loro, nè co’ loro iddii.	32 You wil make no pact with them or with their gods.
33 Non abitino essi nel tuo paese, chè talora non ti facciano peccare contro a me; conciossiachè tu serviresti agl’iddii loro; perciocchè quello ti sarebbe in laccio	33 They may not stay in your country or they might make you sin against me, for you would serve theirgods, and that would be a snare for you!'
