DIODATI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 ALLORA il popolo del paese prese Gioachaz, figliuolo di Giosia; e lo costituì re in Gerusalemme, in luogo di suo padre.	1 The people of the land then took Jehoahaz son of Josiah and proclaimed him king of Jerusalem insuccession to his father.
2 Gioachaz era d’età di ventitrè anni, quando cominciò a regnare; e regnò tre mesi in Gerusalemme.	2 Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for three months inJerusalem.
3 E il re di Egitto lo depose in Gerusalemme; ed impose al paese una ammenda di cento talenti d’argento, e d’un talento d’oro.	3 The king of Egypt deposed him in Jerusalem and imposed a levy of a hundred talents of silver andone talent of gold on the country.
4 E il re di Egitto costituì re sopra Giuda e Gerusalemme, Eliachim, fratello di Gioachaz, e gli mutò il nome in Gioiachim. Poi Neco prese Gioachaz, fratello di esso, e lo menò in Egitto.	4 The king of Egypt then made his brother Eliakim king of Judah and Jerusalem, and changed his nameto Jehoiakim. Carrying off his brother Jehoahaz, Necho took him to Egypt.
5 Gioiachim era d’età di venticinque anni, quando cominciò a regnare; e regnò undici anni in Gerusalemme; e fece ciò che dispiace al Signore Iddio suo.	5 Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for eleven years inJerusalem. He did what is displeasing to Yahweh his God.
6 E Nebucadnesar, re di Babilonia, salì contro a lui, e lo legò con due catene di rame, per menarlo in Babilonia.	6 Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon attacked him, loaded him with chains and took him to Babylon.
7 Nebucadnesar ne portò ancora degli arredi della Casa del Signore, in Babilonia, e li pose nel suo tempio in Babilonia.	7 To Babylon Nebuchadnezzar also took some of the objects belonging to the Temple of Yahweh andput them in his palace in Babylon.
8 Ora, quant’è al rimanente de’ fatti di Gioiachim, e le sue abbominazioni ch’egli commise, e ciò che fu trovato in lui; ecco, queste cose sono scritte nel libro dei re d’Israele e di Giuda; e Gioiachin, suo figliuolo, regnò in luogo suo.	8 The rest of the history of Jehoiakim, the shameful things that he did and what happened to him inconsequence, these are recorded in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah. His son Jehoiachin succeededhim.
9 Gioiachin era d’età di otto anni, quando cominciò a regnare; e regnò tre mesi e dieci giorni in Gerusalemme; e fece ciò che dispiace al Signore.	9 Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for three months andten days in Jerusalem. He did what is displeasing to Yahweh.
10 Laonde, in capo dell’anno, il re Nebucadnesar mandò a farlo menare in Babilonia, insieme co’ più cari arredi della Casa del Signore; e costituì re sopra Giuda e Gerusalemme Sedechia, fratello di esso	10 At the turn of the year, King Nebuchadnezzar sent for him and had him taken to Babylon, with thevaluables belonging to the Temple of Yahweh, and made his brother Zedekiah king of Judah and Jerusalem.
11 SEDECHIA era d’età di ventun’anno, quando cominciò a regnare; e regnò undici anni in Gerusalemme;	11 Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for eleven years inJerusalem.
12 e fece ciò che dispiace al Signore Iddio suo, e non si umiliò per lo profeta Geremia, che parlava da parte della bocca del Signore.	12 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh his God. He did not listen humbly to the prophet Jeremiah whospoke for Yahweh.
13 Ed anch’egli si ribellò dal re Nebucadnesar, che l’avea fatto giurare per lo Nome di Dio; e indurò il suo collo, e fermò l’animo suo, per non convertirsi al Signore Iddio d’Israele.	13 Furthermore, he rebel ed against King Nebuchadnezzar who had made him swear al egiance to himby God. He became stubborn, and obstinately refused to return to Yahweh, God of Israel.
14 Tutti i capi de’ sacerdoti, e il popolo, commisero anch’essi molti e molti misfatti, secondo tutte le abbominazioni delle genti; e contaminarono la Casa del Signore, la quale egli aveva santificata in Gerusalemme.	14 Furthermore, al the leaders of Judah, the priests and the people too, added infidelity to infidelity,copying al the shameful practices of the nations and defiling the Temple of Yahweh which he himself hadconsecrated in Jerusalem.
15 E il Signore Iddio de’ lor padri mandava ogni mattina ad ammonirli per li suoi messi conciossiachè egli risparmiasse il suo popolo e il suo abitacolo;	15 Yahweh, God of their ancestors, continuously sent them word through his messengers because hefelt sorry for his people and his dwel ing,
16 ma essi si beffavano de’ messi di Dio, e sprezzavano le parole di esso, e schernivano i suoi profeti; talchè l’ira del Signore s’infiammò in tal maniera contro al suo popolo, che non vi fu più rimedio alcuno.	16 but they ridiculed the messengers of God, they despised his words, they laughed at his prophets,until Yahweh's wrath with his people became so fierce that there was no further remedy.
17 Ed egli fece salir contro a loro il re de’ Caldei, il quale uccise i lor giovani con la spada, nella casa del lor santuario, e non risparmiò nè giovane, nè vergine, nè vecchio, nè decrepito; egli li diede tutti in mano di quello;	17 So against them he summoned the king of the Chaldaeans and he put their young men to the swordwithin the very building of their Temple, not sparing young man or girl, or the old and infirm; he put them al at hismercy.
18 ed insieme tutti gli arredi della Casa di Dio, piccoli e grandi; e i tesori della Casa del Signore, e i tesori del re, e de’ suoi principi. Egli fece portar tutto ciò in Babilonia.	18 Al the things belonging to the Temple of God, whether large or smal , the treasures of the Temple ofYahweh, the treasures of the king and his officials, everything he took to Babylon.
19 E i Caldei arsero la Casa di Dio, e disfecero le mura di Gerusalemme, e bruciarono col fuoco tutti i suoi palazzi, e guastarono tutti i suoi più cari arredi.	19 He burned down the temple of God, demolished the wal s of Jerusalem, burned al its palaces to theground and destroyed everything of value in it.
20 E il re de’ Caldei menò in cattività in Babilonia quelli ch’erano scampati dalla spada; e furono servi a lui ed a’ suoi figliuoli, finchè il regno di Persia ottenne l’imperio;	20 And those who had escaped the sword he deported to Babylon, where they were enslaved by himand his descendants until the rise of the kingdom of Persia,
21 acciocchè la parola del Signore, pronunziata per la bocca di Geremia, si adempiesse; mentre la terra si compiaceva ne’ suoi sabati; tutto il tempo ch’ella restò desolata, ella si riposò, finchè fossero compiuti settant’anni	21 to fulfil Yahweh's prophecy through Jeremiah: Until the country has paid off its Sabbaths, it wil liefal ow for al the days of its desolation -- until the seventy years are complete.
22 ORA, nell’anno primo di Ciro, re di Persia acciocchè si adempiesse la parola del Signore, pronunziata per la bocca di Geremia, il Signore eccitò lo spirito di Ciro, re di Persia; ed egli fece andare un bando per tutto il suo regno, eziandio con lettere, dicendo:	22 In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia -- to fulfil the word of Yahweh through Jeremiah -- Yahwehroused the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia to issue a proclamation and to have it publicly displayed throughout hiskingdom:
23 Così ha detto Ciro, re di Persia: Il Signore Iddio del cielo mi ha dati tutti i regni della terra; egli ancora mi ha imposto di edificargli una Casa in Gerusalemme, che è in Giudea. Chi, d’infra voi è dell’universo suo popolo? il Signore Iddio suo sia con lui, e ritornisene	23 'Cyrus king of Persia says this, "Yahweh, the God of Heaven, has given me al the kingdoms of theearth and has appointed me to build him a Temple in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Whoever there is among youof al his people, may his God be with him! Let him go up." '
