DIODATI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 OR l’anno diciottesimo del re Geroboamo, figliuolo di Nebat, Abiam cominciò a regnare sopra Giuda.	1 In the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijam became king of Judah
2 Egli regnò tre anni in Gerusalemme. E il nome di sua madre era Maaca, figliuola di Abisalom.	2 and reigned for three years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maacah descendant of Absalom.
3 Ed egli camminò in tutti i peccati di suo padre, ch’egli avea commessi davanti a lui; e il cuor suo non fu intiero inverso il Signore Iddio suo, come era stato il cuore di Davide, suo padre.	3 In everything he fol owed the sinful example of his father before him; his heart was not wholly withYahweh his God, as the heart of David his ancestor had been.
4 Ma pure, per amor di Davide, il Signore Iddio suo gli diede una lampana in Gerusalemme, facendo sorgere il suo figliuolo dopo lui, e facendo sussistere Gerusalemme.	4 However, for David's sake, Yahweh his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem, with a son to succeed him,so keeping Jerusalem secure;
5 Perciocchè Davide avea fatto ciò che piace al Signore, e non si era, in tutto il tempo della vita sua, rivolto da qualunque cosa egli gli avea comandata, salvo nel fatto d’Uria Hitteo.	5 for David had done what Yahweh regarded as right and had never in all his life disobeyed whatever hecommanded him (except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite).
6 Ora, come v’era stata guerra fra Roboamo e Geroboamo, tutto il tempo della vita di esso,	6 .
7 così vi fu guerra fra Abiam e Geroboamo. Quant’è al rimanente de’ fatti di Abiam, e tutto ciò ch’egli fece; queste cose non sono elleno scritte nel Libro delle Croniche dei re di Giuda?	7 The rest of the history of Abijam, his entire career, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of theKings of Judah? Abijam and Jeroboam made war on each other.
8 Ed Abiam giacque co’ suoi padri, e fu seppellito nella Città di Davide; ed Asa, suo figliuolo, regnò in luogo suo	8 When Abijam fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in the City of David; his son Asa succeededhim.
9 OR Asa cominciò a regnare sopra Giuda l’anno ventesimo di Geroboamo, re d’Israele.	9 In the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Asa became king of Judah
10 E regnò in Gerusalemme quarantun anno. E il nome di sua madre era Maaca, figliuola di Abisalom.	10 and reigned for forty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maacah descendant ofAbsalom.
11 Ed Asa fece ciò che piace al Signore, come Davide, suo padre;	11 Asa did what Yahweh regards as right, as his ancestor David had done.
12 e tolse via i cinedi dal paese; rimosse eziandio tutti gl’idoli, che i suoi padri aveano fatti;	12 He drove the male prostitutes out of the country and got rid of all the idols which his ancestors hadmade.
13 rimosse ancora dal governo Maaca, sua madre; perciocchè ella avea fatto un idolo per un bosco. Ed Asa spezzò l’idolo di essa, e l’arse presso al torrente di Chidron.	13 He even deprived his grandmother Maacah of the dignity of Great Lady for having made an obscenityfor Asherah; Asa cut down her obscenity and burnt it in the ravine of the Kidron.
14 Tuttavolta gli alti luoghi non furono tolti via; ma pure il cuor d’Asa fu intiero inverso il Signore, tutto il tempo della vita sua.	14 Though the high places were not abolished, Asa's heart was loyal to Yahweh throughout his life.
15 Ed egli portò nella Casa del Signore le cose che suo padre avea consacrate, e quelle ancora ch’egli stesso avea consacrate: argento, ed oro, e vasellamenti.	15 He deposited his father's and his own dedicated gifts of silver, gold and sacred vessels in the Templeof Yahweh.
16 Ora vi fu guerra fra Asa e Baasa, re d’Israele, tutto il tempo della vita loro.	16 Asa and Baasha king of Israel were at war with each other throughout their reigns.
17 E Baasa, re d’Israele, salì contro a Giuda, ed edificò Rama, per non lasciare uscire, nè entrare alcuno ad Asa, re di Giuda.	17 Baasha king of Israel marched on Judah and fortified Ramah to blockade Asa king of Judah.
18 Laonde Asa prese tutto l’argento, e l’oro, ch’era rimasto nel tesori della Casa del Signore; prese eziandio i tesori della casa del re, e li diede in mano a’ suoi servitori, e li mandò a Ben-hadad, figliuolo di Tabrimmon, figliuolo di Hesion, re di Siria, il quale abitava in Damasco, dicendo:	18 Asa then took al the remaining silver and gold left in the treasuries of the Temple of Yahweh and theroyal palace. Entrusting this to his servants, King Asa sent them with the fol owing message to Ben-Hadad sonof Tabrimmon, son of Hezion, the king of Aram who lived in Damascus,
19 Siavi lega fra me e te, come è stata fra mio padre e tuo padre; ecco, io ti mando un presente d’argento e d’oro; va’, rompi la lega che tu hai con Baasa, re d’Israele, acciocchè egli si ritragga da me.	19 'Let us make an al iance between myself and yourself, between my father and your father! Look, Ihave sent you a gift of silver and gold. Come, break off your al iance with Baasha king of Israel, which wil makehim withdraw from me.'
20 E Ben-hadad prestò le orecchie al re Asa, e mandò i capitani de’ suoi eserciti contro alle città d’Israele, e percosse Ion, e Dan, ed Abel-bet-maaca, e tutto Chinnerot, insieme con tutto il paese di Neftali.	20 Ben-Hadad listened favourably to King Asa, and sent the generals of his armies to attack the towns ofIsrael; he ravaged Ijon, Dan, Abel-Beth-Maacah, al Chinneroth, and the whole territory of Naphtali.
21 E, quando Baasa ebbe ciò inteso, restò di edificare Rama, e dimorò in Tirsa.	21 When Baasha heard this he gave up fortifying Ramah and retired to Tirzah.
22 Allora il re Asa, con bando pubblico, adunò tutto Giuda, senza eccettuarne alcuno; ed essi portarono via le pietre, e il legname di Rama, la quale Baasa edificava; e con quelle cose il re Asa edificò Ghibea di Beniamino, e Mispa.	22 King Asa then summoned al Judah, no one was exempt; they took away the stones and timber withwhich Baasha had been fortifying Ramah, and King Asa used them to fortify Geba of Benjamin and Mizpah.
23 Ora, quant’è al rimanente di tutti i fatti d’Asa, e tutte le sue prodezze, e tutto ciò ch’egli fece, e le città ch’egli edificò; queste cose non son esse scritte nel Libro delle Croniche dei re di Giuda? Sol avvenne che nel tempo della sua vecchiezza egli infermò de’ piedi.	23 The rest of the history of Asa, al his valour, his entire career, is this not recorded in the Book of theAnnals of the Kings of Judah? In his old age, however, he contracted a disease of his feet.
24 Ed Asa giacque co’ suoi padri, e fu seppellito con essi nella Città di Davide, suo padre; e Giosafat, suo figliuolo, regnò in luogo suo	24 When Asa fell asleep with his ancestors, he was buried with his ancestors in the City of his ancestorDavid; his son Jehoshaphat succeeded him.
25 OR Nadab, figliuolo di Geroboamo, cominciò a regnare sopra Israele l’anno secondo d’Asa, re di Giuda, e regnò sopra Israele due anni.	25 Nadab son of Jeroboam became king of Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and hereigned over Israel for two years.
26 E fece ciò che dispiace al Signore, e camminò nella via di suo padre, e nel suo peccato, col quale egli avea fatto peccare Israele.	26 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh; he copied his father's example and the sin into which he hadled Israel.
27 E Baasa, figliuolo di Ahia, della casa d’Issacar, congiurò contro a lui, e lo percosse presso a Ghibbeton de’ Filistei, mentre Nadab, e tutti gl’Israeliti, assediavano Ghibbeton.	27 Baasha son of Ahijah, of the House of Issachar, plotted against him and murdered him at Gibbethon,a Philistine town which Nadab and all Israel were besieging.
28 Baasa adunque l’uccise l’anno terzo d’Asa, re di Giuda, e regnò in luogo suo.	28 Baasha kil ed Nadab and succeeded him in the third year of Asa king of Judah.
29 E, quando egli fu re, percosse tutta la casa di Geroboamo; egli non lasciò in vita alcuna anima vivente della casa di Geroboamo, finchè l’ebbe distrutta, secondo la parola del Signore, ch’egli avea pronunziata per Ahia Silonita, suo servitore;	29 No sooner was he king than he butchered the entire House of Jeroboam, not sparing a soul, and putan end to it, just as Yahweh had foretold through his servant Ahijah of Shiloh,
30 per li peccati di Geroboamo, ch’egli avea commessi, e avea fatti commettere ad Israele, e per lo dispetto onde egli avea dispettato il Signore Iddio di Israele.	30 because of the sins which he had committed and into which he had led Israel, and because he hadprovoked the anger of Yahweh, God of Israel.
31 Ora, quant’è al rimanente de’ fatti di Nadab, e tutto ciò ch’egli fece; queste cose non son esse scritte nel Libro delle Croniche dei re d’Israele?	31 The rest of the history of Nadab, his entire career, is this not recorded in
32 Or vi fu guerra fra Asa e Baasa re d’Israele, tutto il tempo della vita loro.	32 the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Israel?
33 L’anno terzo d’Asa, re di Giuda, Baasa, figliuolo d’Ahia, cominciò a regnare sopra tutto Israele, in Tirsa; e regnò ventiquattro anni.	33 In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha son of Ahijah became king of Israel at Tirzah fortwenty-four years.
34 E fece ciò che dispiace al Signore, e camminò nella via di Geroboamo, e nel peccato di esso, col quale egli avea fatto peccare Israele	34 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh; he copied the example of Jeroboam and the sin into which hehad led Israel.
