Proverbios 8

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 ¿No está llamando la Sabiduría y no hace oír su voz la Inteligencia?	1 Is not Wisdom cal ing? Is not Understanding raising her voice?
2 En las cumbres más altas que bordean el camino, apostada en el cruce de los senderos,	2 On the heights overlooking the road, at the crossways, she takes her stand;
3 al lado de las puertas, a la entrada de la ciudad, en los lugares de acceso, ella dice en alta voz:	3 by the gates, at the entrance to the city, on the access-roads, she cries out,
4 «A ustedes, hombres, yo los llamo, y mi voz se dirige a los seres humanos.	4 'I am cal ing to you, al people, my words are addressed to al humanity.
5 Entiendan, incautos, qué es la perspicacia; entiendan, necios, qué es la sensatez.	5 Simpletons, learn how to behave, fools, come to your senses.
6 Escuchen: es muy importante lo que voy a decir, mis labios se abren para expresar lo que es recto.	6 Listen, I have something important to tel you, when I speak, my words are right.
7 Sí, mi boca profiere la verdad, la maldad es una abominación para mis labios.	7 My mouth proclaims the truth, for evil is abhorrent to my lips.
8 Todas mis palabras son conformes a la justicia, no hay en ellas nada retorcido o sinuoso;	8 Al the words from my mouth are upright, nothing false there, nothing crooked,
9 todas son exactas para el que sabe entender y rectas para los que ha hallado la ciencia.	9 everything plain, if you can understand, straight, if you have acquired knowledge.
10 Adquieran mi instrucción, no la plata, y la ciencia más que el oro acrisolado.	10 Accept my discipline rather than silver, and knowledge of me in preference to finest gold.
11 Porque la Sabiduría vale más que las perlas, y nada apetecible se le puede igualar».	11 For Wisdom is more precious than jewels, and nothing else is so worthy of desire.
12 Yo, la Sabiduría, habito con la prudencia y poseo la ciencia de la reflexión.	12 'I, Wisdom, share house with Discretion, I am mistress of the art of thought.
13 El temor del Señor es detestar el mal: yo detesto la soberbia, el orgullo, la mala conducta y la boca perversa.	13 (Fear of Yahweh means hatred of evil.) I hate pride and arrogance, wicked behaviour and a lyingmouth.
14 A mí me pertenecen el consejo y la habilidad, yo soy la inteligencia, mío es el poder.	14 To me belong good advice and prudence, I am perception: power is mine!
15 Por mí reinan los reyes y los soberanos decretan la justicia;	15 By me monarchs rule and princes decree what is right;
16 por mí gobiernan los príncipes y los nobles juzgan la tierra.	16 by me rulers govern, so do nobles, the lawful authorities.
17 Yo amo a los que me aman y los que me buscan ardientemente, me encontrarán.	17 I love those who love me; whoever searches eagerly for me finds me.
18 Conmigo están la riqueza y la gloria, los bienes perdurables y la justicia.	18 With me are riches and honour, lasting wealth and saving justice.
19 Mi fruto vale más que el oro, que el oro fino, y rindo más que la plata acrisolada.	19 The fruit I give is better than gold, even the finest, the return I make is better than pure silver.
20 Yo voy por el sendero de la justicia, en medio de las sendas de la equidad,	20 I walk in the way of uprightness in the path of justice,
21 para repartir posesiones a los que me aman y para colmar sus tesoros.	21 to endow my friends with my wealth and to fil their treasuries.
22 El Señor me creó como primicia de sus caminos, antes de sus obras, desde siempre.	22 'Yahweh created me, first-fruits of his fashioning, before the oldest of his works.
23 Yo fui formada desde la eternidad, desde el comienzo, antes de los orígenes de la tierra.	23 From everlasting, I was firmly set, from the beginning, before the earth came into being.
24 Yo nací cuando no existían los abismos, cuando no había fuentes de aguas caudalosas.	24 The deep was not, when I was born, nor were the springs with their abounding waters.
25 Antes que fueran cimentadas las montañas, antes que las colinas, yo nací,	25 Before the mountains were settled, before the hil s, I came to birth;
26 cuando él no había hecho aún la tierra ni los espacios ni los primeros elementos del mundo.	26 before he had made the earth, the countryside, and the first elements of the world.
27 Cuando él afianzaba el cielo, yo estaba allí; cuando trazaba el horizonte sobre el océano,	27 When he fixed the heavens firm, I was there, when he drew a circle on the surface of the deep,
28 cuando condensaba las nubes en lo alto, cuando infundía poder a las fuentes del océano,	28 when he thickened the clouds above, when the sources of the deep began to swel ,
29 cuando fijaba su límite al mar para que las aguas no transgredieran sus bordes, cuando afirmaba los cimientos de la tierra,	29 when he assigned the sea its boundaries -- and the waters will not encroach on the shore -- when hetraced the foundations of the earth,
30 yo estaba a su lado como un hijo querido y lo deleitaba día tras día, recreándome delante de él en todo tiempo,	30 I was beside the master craftsman, delighting him day after day, ever at play in his presence,
31 recreándome sobre la faz de la tierra, y mi delicia era estar con los hijos de los hombres.	31 at play everywhere on his earth, delighting to be with the children of men.
32 Y ahora, hijos, escúchenme: ¡felices los que observan mis caminos!	32 'And now, my children, listen to me. Happy are those who keep my ways.
33 Escuchen la instrucción y sean sabios: ¡no la descuiden!	33 Listen to instruction and become wise, do not reject it.
34 ¡Feliz el hombre que me escucha, velando a mis puertas día tras día y vigilando a la entrada de mi casa!	34 Blessed, whoever listens to me, who day after day keeps watch at my gates to guard my portals.
35 Porque el que me encuentra ha encontrado la vida y ha obtenido el favor del Señor;	35 For whoever finds me finds life, and obtains the favour of Yahweh;
36 pero el que peca contra mí se hace daño a sí mismo y todos los que me odian, aman la muerte.	36 but whoever misses me harms himself, al who hate me are in love with death.'
