1 Le roi Salomon rassembla alors auprès de lui, à Jérusalem, les anciens d’Israël, tous les chefs des tribus et les anciens des familles Israélites, pour transporter l’Arche d’Alliance de Yahvé qui était encore dans la cité de David qu’on appelle Sion.	1 Then all those greater by birth of Israel, with the leaders of the tribes and the rulers of the families of the sons of Israel, gathered together before king Solomon at Jerusalem, so that they might carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord, from the city of David, that is, from Zion.
2 Tous les Israélites se rassemblèrent autour du roi Salomon pour la fête des Tentes; on était au mois d’Étanim, le septième mois de l’année.	2 And all of Israel assembled before king Solomon, on the solemn day in the month of Ethanim, which is the seventh month.
3 Lorsque les anciens d’Israël furent arrivés, les prêtres firent le transport de l’Arche.	3 And all the elders of Israel arrived, and the priests took up the ark.
4 Ils firent monter l’Arche de Yahvé ainsi que la Tente du Rendez-Vous et tous les objets sacrés qui se trouvaient dans la Tente.	4 And they carried the ark of the Lord, and the tabernacle of the covenant, and all the vessels of the Sanctuary, which were in the tabernacle; and the priests and the Levites carried these.
5 Le roi Salomon et toute la communauté d’Israël rassemblée autour de lui, étaient là devant l’Arche. Ils offrirent des sacrifices de petit et de gros bétail en telle quantité qu’il était impossible de les compter.	5 Then king Solomon, and the entire multitude of Israel, who had assembled before him, advanced with him before the ark. And they immolated sheep and oxen, which could not be numbered or estimated.
6 Les prêtres portèrent l’Arche de l’Alliance de Yahvé à sa place, dans le lieu le plus saint de la Maison, le Saint des Saints, au-dessous des ailes des Chérubins.	6 And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the Lord to its place, into the oracle of the temple, in the Holy of Holies, under the wings of the cherubim.
7 Les Chérubins étendaient leurs ailes au-dessus de l’endroit où se trouvait l’Arche et ils couvraient ainsi l’Arche et ses barres.	7 For indeed, the cherubim extended their wings over the place of the ark, and they protected the ark and its bars from above.
8 Comme les barres étaient assez longues, on pouvait en apercevoir l’extrémité lorsque l’on était dans le Saint, en avant du Saint des Saints, mais de l’extérieur on ne les voyait pas; elles sont restées là jusqu’à ce jour.	8 And since the bars projected outward, their ends were visible from without, in the Sanctuary before the oracle; but they were not visible farther outward. And they have been in that place even to the present day.
9 Il n’y avait rien d’autre dans l’Arche que les deux tables de pierre que Moïse y avait déposées à l’Horeb, les tables de l’Alliance que Yahvé avait conclue avec les Israélites lorsqu’ils sortirent du pays d’Égypte.	9 Now inside the ark, there was nothing other than the two tablets of stone, which Moses had placed in it at Horeb, when the Lord formed a covenant with the sons of Israel, when they departed from the land of Egypt.
10 Au moment où les prêtres sortaient du Saint, la nuée remplit la Maison de Yahvé.	10 Then it happened that, when the priests had exited from the Sanctuary, a cloud filled the house of the Lord.
11 Les prêtres ne purent continuer leur service liturgique à l’intérieur à cause de la nuée, car la Gloire de Yahvé remplissait la Maison de Yahvé.	11 And the priests were unable to stand and minister, because of the cloud. For the glory of the Lord had filled the house of the Lord.
12 Alors Salomon déclara: “Yahvé a dit qu’il habite dans la nuée;	12 Then Solomon said: “The Lord has said that he would dwell in a cloud.
13 ce que j’ai bâti est donc réellement la Maison où tu demeures, le lieu où tu résideras à jamais.”	13 Building, I have built a house as your dwelling place, your most firm throne forever.”
14 Le roi se retourna pour bénir toute la communauté d’Israël qui était là debout.	14 And the king turned his face, and he blessed the entire assembly of Israel. For the entire assembly of Israel was standing.
15 “Béni soit Yahvé, dit-il, le Dieu d’Israël! Ce que sa bouche avait annoncé à mon père David, sa main vient de le mener à bien. Il avait dit en effet:	15 And Solomon said: “Blessed is the Lord, the God of Israel, who spoke with his mouth to my father David, and who, with his own hands, has perfected it, saying:
16 Depuis le jour où j’ai fait sortir d’Égypte mon peuple Israël, je n’ai choisi aucune ville parmi toutes les tribus d’Israël pour qu’on y construise un Temple où habiterait mon Nom, j’ai seulement choisi David pour qu’il règne sur mon peuple Israël.	16 ‘From the day when I led my people Israel away from Egypt, I did not choose any city out of all the tribes of Israel, so that a house would be built, and so that my name might be there. Instead, I chose David to be over my people Israel.’
17 David, mon père, voulait construire une Maison pour le Nom de Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël.	17 And my father David wanted to build a house to the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.
18 Mais Yahvé a dit à David, mon père: Ce désir que tu as de construire un Temple en l’honneur de mon Nom, c’est très bien que tu l’aies eu.	18 But the Lord said to my father David: ‘Since you have planned in your heart to build a house to my name, you have done well by considering this plan in your mind.
19 Seulement, ce ne sera pas toi qui construira le Temple, mais ton fils, celui qui naîtra de toi. C’est lui qui construira la Maison en l’honneur de mon Nom.	19 Yet truly, you shall not build a house for me. Instead, your son, who shall go forth from your loins, he himself shall build a house to my name.’
20 Yahvé a donc réalisé la parole qu’il avait dite: j’ai succédé à David, mon père, et je me suis assis sur le trône d’Israël, comme Yahvé l’avait dit. Puis j’ai bâti la Maison en l’honneur de Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël,	20 The Lord has confirmed his word which he spoke. And so I stand in place of my father David, and I sit upon the throne of Israel, just as the Lord said. And I have built a house to the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.
21 j’en ai fait un lieu où réside l’Arche de l’Alliance de Yahvé, l’alliance qu’il a conclue avec nos pères lorsqu’il les a fait sortir du pays d’Égypte.”	21 And there I have appointed a place for the ark, in which is the covenant of the Lord that he struck with our fathers, when they went forth from the land of Egypt.”
22 Salomon était debout devant l’autel de Yahvé, face à toute la communauté d’Israël. Il étendit alors ses mains vers le ciel,	22 Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord, in the sight of the assembly of Israel, and he extended his hands toward heaven.
23 et il dit: “Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël! Aucun Dieu en haut dans les cieux ou en bas sur la terre n’est semblable à toi, car tu gardes ton Alliance et ta fidélité envers tes serviteurs lorsqu’ils marchent devant toi de tout leur cœur.	23 And he said: “Lord God of Israel, there is no God like you, in heaven above, nor on the earth below. You preserve covenant and mercy with your servants, who walk before you with all their heart.
24 “Tu as tenu la promesse que tu avais faite à ton serviteur David, mon père, et aujourd’hui tu as réalisé toi-même ce que tu avais promis.	24 You have fulfilled, for your servant David, my father, that which you said to him. With your mouth, you spoke; and with your hands, you completed; just this day proves.
25 Maintenant Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël, tiens la promesse que tu as faite à ton serviteur David, mon père: Si tes fils veillent à leur conduite, s’ils marchent devant moi comme toi-même tu as marché devant moi, alors tu ne manqueras jamais d’un descendant qui siège devant moi sur le trône d’Israël.	25 Now therefore, O Lord God of Israel, fulfill, for your servant David, my father, that which you spoke to him, saying, ‘There shall not be taken away from you a man before me, who may sit upon the throne of Israel, if only your sons will guard their way, so that they walk before me, just as you have walked in my sight.’
26 Maintenant, Dieu d’Israël, que se réalise cette promesse que tu as faite à ton serviteur David mon père.	26 And now, O Lord God of Israel, establish your words, which you spoke to your servant David, my father.
27 “Dieu pourrait-il vraiment habiter sur la terre? Voici que les cieux et les cieux des cieux ne peuvent te contenir, combien moins cette Maison que j’ai construite.	27 Is it, then, to be understood that truly God would dwell upon the earth? For if heaven, and the heavens of heavens, are not able to contain you, how much less this house, which I have built?
28 Cependant, Yahvé mon Dieu, sois attentif à la prière et à la supplication de ton serviteur, écoute le cri joyeux et la prière que ton serviteur fait aujourd’hui devant toi.	28 Yet look with favor upon the prayer of your servant and upon his petitions, O Lord, my God. Listen to the hymn and the prayer, which your servant prays before you this day,
29 Que tes yeux soient ouverts nuit et jour sur cette Maison, sur ce lieu dont tu as dit: C’est là qu’habitera mon Nom. Écoute la prière que ton serviteur fera en ce lieu.	29 so that your eyes may be open over this house, night and day, over the house about which you said, ‘My name shall be there,’ so that you may heed the prayer that your servant is praying in this place to you.
30 “Écoute la supplication de ton serviteur et de ton peuple Israël lorsqu’ils viendront prier en ce lieu. Écoute du haut du ciel, du lieu où tu habites, écoute et pardonne.	30 So may you heed the supplication of your servant and of your people Israel, whatever they will pray for in this place, and so may you heed them in your dwelling place in heaven. And when you heed, you will be gracious.
31 “Si quelqu’un pèche contre son frère et que celui-ci l’oblige à prêter un serment solennel, lorsqu’il viendra prêter ce serment dans cette Maison devant ton autel,	31 But if any man sins against his neighbor, and he has any kind of an oath by which he is bound, and he arrives because of the oath, before your altar in your house,
32 écoute-le du haut du ciel et interviens. Juge tes serviteurs, condamne le coupable et fais retomber sur sa tête sa faute, mais rends justice à l’innocent en proclamant son innocence.	32 you will hear in heaven, and you will act and judge your servants, condemning the impious, and repaying his own way upon his own head, but justifying the just, and rewarding him in accord with his justice.
33 “Lorsque ton peuple Israël aura péché contre toi et qu’il sera écrasé par ses ennemis, lorsqu’il reviendra vers toi et rendra gloire à ton Nom, lorsqu’il t’adressera sa prière et sa supplication dans cette Maison,	33 And if your people Israel will have fled from their enemies, because they have sinned against you, and doing penance and confessing to your name, shall arrive and pray and petition you in this house,
34 écoute du haut du ciel. Pardonne le péché de ton peuple Israël et ramène-le dans ce pays que tu as donné à ses pères.	34 listen in heaven, and forgive the sin of your people Israel, and lead them back to the land, which you gave to their fathers.
35 “Lorsque ton peuple aura péché contre toi et que le ciel sera fermé, qu’il n’y aura plus de pluie, s’il vient dans ce lieu pour prier et rendre gloire à ton Nom, s’il renonce au péché pour lequel tu l’as humilié,	35 And if the heavens have closed, so that there is no rain, because of their sins, and they, praying in this place, shall do penance to your name, and shall be converted from their sins, by occasion of their afflictions,
36 écoute du haut du ciel et pardonne le péché de tes serviteurs et de ton peuple Israël. Tu leur montreras le bon chemin dans lequel ils doivent marcher, tu feras tomber la pluie sur la terre que tu as donnée en héritage à ton peuple.	36 hear them from heaven, and forgive the sins of your servants and of your people Israel. And reveal to them the good way, along which they should walk, and grant rain upon your land, which you have given to your people as a possession.
37 “Lorsqu’il y aura dans le pays une famine, une peste, un fléau sur le blé, des sauterelles, des criquets, lorsque l’ennemi assiégera l’une de ses villes, ou encore lorsqu’il y aura une catastrophe ou une maladie,	37 Then, if famine rises over the land, or pestilence, or corrupt air, or blight, or locust, or mildew, or if their enemy afflicts them, besieging the gates, or any harm or infirmity,
38 si un homme, si Israël, ton peuple, vient te prier et te supplier, s’il reconnaît sa faute du fond du cœur et qu’il tende ses mains vers cette Maison,	38 or whatever curse or divine intervention may happen to any man among your people Israel, if anyone understands, having been wounded in his heart, and if he will have extended his hands in this house,
39 alors toi du haut des cieux où tu habites, écoute et pardonne. Tu connais son cœur, puisque toi et toi seul connais le cœur de tous les fils d’Adam: rends à chacun selon ses œuvres.	39 you will hear in heaven, in your dwelling place, and you will forgive. And you will act so that you give to each one in accord with his own ways, just as you see in his heart, for you alone know the heart of all the sons of men.
40 Ainsi, tout au long de leur vie, ils te craindront dans ce pays que tu as donné à leurs pères.	40 So may they fear you, all the days that they live upon the face of the land, which you have given to our fathers.
41 “Lorsqu’un étranger qui n’est pas de ton peuple Israël, mais qui viendra d’un pays lointain à cause de ton Nom	41 Moreover, the foreigner too, who is not of your people Israel, when he will have arrived from a distant land because of your name, for they shall hear about your great name, and your strong hand,
42 - car on entendra parler de ton grand Nom, de ta main puissante et des grands coups que tu frappes - lorsqu’il viendra donc prier dans cette Maison,	42 and your outstretched arm everywhere: so when he arrives and prays in this place,
43 écoute du haut du ciel où tu habites, et réponds à la demande de cet étranger. Ainsi tous les peuples de la terre connaîtront ton nom, ils te craindront comme ton peuple Israël te craint, et ils sauront que ton Nom repose sur cette Maison que j’ai construite.	43 you will listen in heaven, in the firmament of your dwelling place. And you will do all the things, for which that foreigner will have called upon you. So may all the peoples of the earth learn to fear your name, just as your people Israel do. And so may they show that your name has been invoked over this house, which I have built.
44 “Lorsque ton peuple partira en guerre contre ses ennemis par le chemin sur lequel tu l’auras envoyé, s’il se tourne vers cette ville que tu as choisie, vers cette Maison que j’ai construite en l’honneur de ton nom,	44 And if your people have gone out to war against their enemies, along whatever way you will send them, they shall pray to you in the direction of the city, which you have chosen, and toward the house, which I have built to your name.
45 écoute du haut du ciel leurs prières et leurs supplications, et fais-leur justice.	45 And you will hear in heaven their prayers and their petitions. And you will accomplish judgment for them.
46 “Lorsqu’il auront péché contre toi - car personne n’est sans péché, lorsque tu seras en colère contre eux, que tu les livreras à leurs ennemis et que leurs vainqueurs les emmèneront captifs dans leur pays, loin ou proche,	46 But if they sin against you, for there is no man who does not sin, and you, being angry, deliver them to their enemies, and they will have been led away as captives to the land of their enemies, whether far or near,
47 si du fond de leur exil ils regrettent vraiment leur attitude, s’ils se convertissent et qu’ils t’adressent leurs prières dans ce pays où ils sont déportés, s’ils te disent: Nous avons péché, nous avons fait ce qui est mal, nous avons commis un crime,	47 and if they do penance in their heart, in the place of captivity, and having been converted, make supplication to you in their captivity, saying, ‘We have sinned; we acted unjustly; we committed impiety,’
48 si du fond de leur exil ils reviennent vers toi de tout leur cœur et de toute leur âme, s’ils t’adressent leurs prières en se tournant vers leur pays que tu avais donné à leurs pères, vers la ville que tu as choisie et vers cette Maison que j’ai bâtie en l’honneur de ton Nom,	48 and they return to you with all their heart and all their soul, in the land of their enemies, to which they have been led away as captives, and if they pray to you in the direction of their land, which you gave to their fathers, and of the city, which you have chosen, and of the temple, which I have built to your name:
49 écoute du haut du ciel où tu habites, leurs prières et leurs supplications et exauce-les.	49 you will hear in heaven, in the firmament of your throne, their prayers and their petitions. And you will accomplish their judgment.
50 “Pardonne à ton peuple ses fautes et tous les péchés qu’il a commis contre toi; fais que ses vainqueurs aient pitié de lui,	50 And you will forgive your people, who have sinned against you, and all their iniquities, by which they have transgressed against you. And you will grant to them mercy in the sight of those who have made them captives, so that they may take pity on them.
51 car il est ton peuple et ton bien personnel, c’est toi qui les as fait sortir d’Égypte, du milieu de la fournaise de fer.	51 For they are your people and your inheritance, whom you have led away from the land of Egypt, from the midst of the furnace of iron.
52 Ainsi tes yeux seront attentifs à la supplication de ton serviteur, à la supplication de ton peuple Israël, et tu les écouteras dans toutes leurs demandes.	52 So may your eyes be open to the supplication of your servant and of your people Israel. And so may you heed them in all the things about which they will call upon you.
53 “C’est toi, Seigneur Yahvé, qui les a mis à part de tous les peuples de la terre pour qu’ils soient ton héritage, comme tu l’as dit par la bouche de Moïse ton serviteur lorsque tu as fait sortir nos pères d’Égypte.”	53 For you have separated them to yourself as an inheritance, from among all the peoples of the earth, just as you spoke by Moses, your servant, when you led our fathers away from Egypt, O Lord God.”
54 “Durant toute cette prière et cette supplication, Salomon était à genoux, les mains tendues vers le ciel face à l’autel de Yahvé. Lorsqu’il eut fini,	54 And it happened that, when Solomon had completed praying this entire prayer and supplication to the Lord, he rose up from the sight of the altar of the Lord. For he had fixed both knees upon the ground, and he had extended his hands toward heaven.
55 il se releva et bénit toute la communauté d’Israël à haute voix:	55 Then he stood and blessed the entire assembly of Israel in a great voice, saying:
56 “Béni soit Yahvé, dit-il, car il a donné la paix à son peuple Israël comme il l’avait promis. Il a fait se réaliser toutes les bonnes paroles qu’il avait fait entendre par la bouche de Moïse son serviteur.	56 “Blessed is the Lord, who has given rest to his people Israel, in accord with all that he said. Not even one word, out of all the good things that he spoke by his servant Moses, has fallen away.
57 “Que Yahvé, notre Dieu, soit avec nous comme il l’a été avec nos pères, qu’il ne nous abandonne pas et ne nous délaisse pas.	57 May the Lord our God be with us, just as he was with our fathers, not abandoning us, and not rejecting us.
58 Qu’il tourne nos cœurs vers lui pour que nous marchions dans toutes ses voies et que nous observions ses commandements, les lois et les ordonnances qu’il a données à nos pères.	58 But may he incline our hearts to himself, so that we may walk in all his ways, and keep his commandments, and his ceremonies, and whatever judgments he commanded to our fathers.
59 “Que les paroles de cette supplication que j’ai adressée à Yahvé restent présentes nuit et jour devant Yahvé, notre Dieu. Ainsi, selon les besoins de chaque jour, il répondra à son serviteur et à son peuple Israël,	59 And may these my words, by which I have prayed before the Lord, be near to the Lord our God, day and night, so that he may accomplish judgment for his servant and for his people Israel, throughout each day.
60 et tous les peuples de la terre sauront que Yahvé est Dieu, et qu’il n’y en a pas d’autre que lui.	60 So may all the peoples of the earth know that the Lord himself is God, and there is no other beside him.
61 Que votre cœur soit tout entier à Yahvé, notre Dieu: marchez selon ses lois, observez ses commandements comme nous le faisons aujourd’hui.”	61 Also, may our hearts be perfect with the Lord our God, so that we may walk in his decrees, and keep his commandments, as also on this day.”
62 Le roi et tout Israël offrirent des sacrifices devant Yahvé:	62 Then the king, and all of Israel with him, immolated victims before the Lord.
63 Salomon fit immoler 22 000 bœufs et 120 000 brebis pour le sacrifice de communion qu’il offrit à Yahvé. C’est ainsi que le roi et tous les Israélites consacrèrent la Maison de Yahvé.	63 And Solomon slew sacrifices of peace offerings, which he immolated to the Lord: twenty-two thousand oxen, and twenty thousand one hundred sheep. And the king and all the sons of Israel dedicated the temple of the Lord.
64 Ce jour-là, le roi consacra aussi le milieu de la cour qui est devant la maison de Yahvé; c’est là qu’il offrit les holocaustes, les offrandes et les graisses des sacrifices de communion, parce que l’autel de bronze qui est devant Yahvé était trop petit pour recevoir tous les holocaustes, les offrandes et les graisses des sacrifices de communion.	64 On that day, the king sanctified the middle of the atrium, which was before the house of the Lord. For in that place, he offered holocaust, and sacrifice, and the fat of peace offerings. For the bronze altar, which was before the Lord, was too small and was not able to hold the holocaust, and the sacrifice, and the fat of the peace offerings.
65 Durant sept jours Salomon célébra la fête avec tout le peuple d’Israël, une grande foule qui était venue se rassembler devant Yahvé, depuis l’Entrée-de-Hamat jusqu’au Torrent d’Égypte.	65 Then Solomon made, at that time, a celebratory festival, and all of Israel with him, a great multitude, from the entrance of Hamath to the river of Egypt, in the sight of the Lord our God, for seven days plus seven days, that is, fourteen days.
66 Le huitième jour il renvoya le peuple; ils bénirent le roi et s’en retournèrent chacun chez soi, joyeux et le cœur content pour tout le bien que Yahvé avait fait à David, son serviteur, et à son peuple Israël.	66 And on the eighth day, he dismissed the people. And blessing the king, they set out for their tents, rejoicing and cheerful in heart over all the good things that the Lord had done for his servant David and for his people Israel.
