1 Timothy 6

1 Whoever are servants under the yoke, let them consider their masters to be worthy of every honor, lest the name and doctrine of the Lord be blasphemed.	1 Al those under the yoke of slavery must have unqualified respect for their masters, so that the name ofGod and our teaching are not brought into disrepute.
2 But those who have believing masters, let them not despise them because they are brothers, but rather serve them all the more because they are believing and beloved, participants of the same service. Teach and exhort these things.	2 Those whose masters are believers are not to respect them less because they are brothers; on thecontrary, they should serve them al the better, since those who have the benefit of their services are believersand dear to God. This is what you are to teach and urge.
3 If anyone teaches otherwise, and does not consent to the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to that doctrine which is in accord with piety,	3 Anyone who teaches anything different and does not keep to the sound teaching which is that of ourLord Jesus Christ, the doctrine which is in accordance with true religion,
4 then he is arrogant, knowing nothing, yet languishing amid the questions and quarrels of words. From these arise envy, contention, blasphemy, evil suspicions:	4 is proud and has no understanding, but rather a weakness for questioning everything and arguing aboutwords. Al that can come of this is jealousy, contention, abuse and evil mistrust;
5 the conflicts of men who have been corrupted in mind and deprived of truth, who consider profit to be piety.	5 and unending disputes by people who are depraved in mind and deprived of truth, and imagine thatreligion is a way of making a profit.
6 But piety with sufficiency is great gain.	6 Religion, of course, does bring large profits, but only to those who are content with what they have.
7 For we brought nothing into this world, and there is no doubt that we can take nothing away.	7 We brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it;
8 But, having nourishment and some kind of covering, we should be content with these.	8 but as long as we have food and clothing, we shal be content with that.
9 For those who want to become rich fall into temptation and into the snare of the devil and into many useless and harmful desires, which submerge men in destruction and in perdition.	9 People who long to be rich are a prey to trial; they get trapped into all sorts of foolish and harmfulambitions which plunge people into ruin and destruction.
10 For desire is the root of all evils. Some persons, hungering in this way, have strayed from the faith and have entangled themselves in many sorrows.	10 'The love of money is the root of all evils' and there are some who, pursuing it, have wandered awayfrom the faith and so given their souls any number of fatal wounds.
11 But you, O man of God, flee from these things, and truly pursue justice, piety, faith, charity, patience, meekness.	11 But, as someone dedicated to God, avoid al that. You must aim to be upright and religious, fil ed withfaith and love, perseverance and gentleness.
12 Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you have been called, and make a good profession of faith in the sight of many witnesses.	12 Fight the good fight of faith and win the eternal life to which you were cal ed and for which you madeyour noble profession of faith before many witnesses.
13 I charge you, in the sight of God, who enlivens all things, and in the sight of Christ Jesus, who gave the testimony of a good profession under Pontius Pilate,	13 Now, before God, the source of all life, and before Jesus Christ, who witnessed to his noble professionof faith before Pontius Pilate, I charge you
14 to observe the commandment, immaculately, irreproachably, unto the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.	14 to do al that you have been told, with no faults or failures, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,
15 For at the proper time, he shall reveal the blessed and only Power, the King of kings and the Lord of lords,	15 who at the due time wil be revealed by God, the blessed and only Ruler of al , the King of kings andthe Lord of lords,
16 who alone holds immortality, and who inhabits the inaccessible light, whom no man has seen, nor even is able to see, to whom is honor and everlasting dominion. Amen.	16 who alone is immortal, whose home is in inaccessible light, whom no human being has seen or is ableto see: to him be honour and everlasting power. Amen.
17 Instruct the wealthy of this age not to have a superior attitude, nor to hope in the uncertainty of riches, but in the living God, who offers us everything in abundance to enjoy,	17 Instruct those who are rich in this world's goods that they should not be proud and should set theirhopes not on money, which is untrustworthy, but on God who gives us richly al that we need for our happiness.
18 and to do good, to become rich in good works, to donate readily, to share,	18 They are to do good and be rich in good works, generous in giving and always ready to share-
19 to gather for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may obtain true life.	19 this is the way they can amass a good capital sum for the future if they want to possess the only lifethat is real.
20 O Timothy, guard what has been deposited with you, avoiding the voice of profane novelties and of opposing ideas, which are falsely called knowledge.	20 My dear Timothy, take great care of al that has been entrusted to you. Turn away from godlessphilosophical discussions and the contradictions of the 'knowledge' which is not knowledge at al ;
21 Certain persons, promising these things, have perished from the faith. May grace be with you. Amen.	21 by adopting this, some have missed the goal of faith. Grace be with you.
