Deuteronomy 27

1 Or do you not know, brothers, (now I am speaking to those who know the law) that the law has dominion over a man only so long as he lives?	1 ¿O es que ignoráis, hermanos, - hablo a quienes entienden de leyes - que la ley no domina sobre el hombre sino mientras vive?
2 For example, a woman who is subject to a husband is obligated by the law while her husband lives. But when her husband has died, she is released from the law of her husband.	2 Así, la mujer casada está ligada por la ley a su marido mientras éste vive; mas, una vez muerto el marido, se ve libre de la ley del marido.
3 Therefore, while her husband lives, if she has been with another man, she should be called an adulteress. But when her husband has died, she is freed from the law of her husband, such that, if she has been with another man, she is not an adulteress.	3 Por eso, mientras vive el marido, será llamada adultera si se une a otro hombre; pero si muere el marido, queda libre de la ley, de forma que no es adultera si se casa con otro.
4 And so, my brothers, you also have become dead to the law, through the body of Christ, so that you may be another one who has risen from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God.	4 Así pues, hermanos míos, también vosotros quedasteis muertos respecto de la ley por el cuerpo de Cristo, para pertenecer a otro: a aquel que fue resucitado de entre los muertos, a fin de que fructificáramos para Dios.
5 For when we were in the flesh, the passions of sins, which were under the law, operated within our bodies, so as to bear fruit unto death.	5 Porque, cuando estábamos en la carne, las pasiones pecaminosas, excitadas por la ley, obraban en nuestros miembros, a fin de que produjéramos frutos de muerte.
6 But now we have been released from the law of death, by which we were being held, so that now we may serve with a renewed spirit, and not in the old way, by the letter.	6 Mas, al presente, hemos quedado emancipados de la ley, muertos a aquello que nos tenía aprisionados, de modo que sirvamos con un espíritu nuevo y no con la letra vieja.
7 What should we say next? Is the law sin? Let it not be so! But I do not know sin, except through the law. For example, I would not have known about coveting, unless the law said: “You shall not covet.”	7 ¿Qué decir, entonces? ¿Que la ley es pecado? ¡De ningún modo! Sin embargo yo no conocí el pecado sino por la ley. De suerte que yo hubiera ignorado la concupiscencia si la ley no dijera: ¡No te des a la concupiscencia!
8 But sin, receiving an opportunity through the commandment, wrought in me all manner of coveting. For apart from the law, sin was dead.	8 Mas el pecado, tomando ocasión por medio del precepto, suscitó en mi toda suerte de concupiscencias; pues sin ley el pecado estaba muerto.
9 Now I lived for some time apart from the law. But when the commandment had arrived, sin was revived,	9 ¡Ah! ¡Vivía yo un tiempo sin ley!, pero en cuanto sobrevino el precepto, revivió el pecado,
10 and I died. And the commandment, which was unto life, was itself found to be unto death for me.	10 y yo morí; y resultó que el precepto, dado para vida, me fue para muerte.
11 For sin, receiving an opportunity through the commandment, seduced me, and, through the law, sin killed me.	11 Porque el pecado, tomando ocasión por medio del precepto, me sedujo, y por él, me mató.
12 And so, the law itself is indeed holy, and the commandment is holy and just and good.	12 Así que, la ley es santa, y santo el precepto, y justo y bueno.
13 Then was what is good made into death for me? Let it not be so! But rather sin, in order that it might be known as sin by what is good, wrought death in me; so that sin, through the commandment, might become sinful beyond measure.	13 Luego ¿se habrá convertido lo bueno en muerte para mí? ¡De ningún modo! Sino que el pecado, para aparecer como tal, se sirvió de una cosa buena, para procurarme la muerte, a fin de que el pecado ejerciera todo su poder de pecado por medio del precepto.
14 For we know that the law is spiritual. But I am carnal, having been sold under sin.	14 Sabemos, en efecto, que la ley es espiritual, mas yo soy de carne, vendido al poder del pecado.
15 For I do things that I do not understand. For I do not do the good that I want to do. But the evil that I hate is what I do.	15 Realmente, mi proceder no lo comprendo; pues no hago lo que quiero, sino que hago lo que aborrezco.
16 So, when I do what I do not want to do, I am in agreement with the law, that the law is good.	16 Y, si hago lo que no quiero, estoy de acuerdo con la Ley en que es buena;
17 But I am then acting not according to the law, but according to the sin which lives within me.	17 en realidad, ya no soy yo quien obra, sino el pecado que habita en mí.
18 For I know that what is good does not live within me, that is, within my flesh. For the willingness to do good lies close to me, but the carrying out of that good, I cannot reach.	18 Pues bien sé yo que nada bueno habita en mí, es decir, en mi carne; en efecto, querer el bien lo tengo a mi alcance, mas no el realizarlo,
19 For I do not do the good that I want to do. But instead, I do the evil that I do not want to do.	19 puesto que no hago el bien que quiero, sino que obro el mal que no quiero.
20 Now if I do what I am not willing to do, it is no longer I who am doing it, but the sin which lives within me.	20 Y, si hago lo que no quiero, no soy yo quien lo obra, sino el pecado que habita en mí.
21 And so, I discover the law, by wanting to do good within myself, though evil lies close beside me.	21 Descubro, pues, esta ley: aun queriendo hacer el bien, es el mal el que se me presenta.
22 For I am delighted with the law of God, according to the inner man.	22 Pues me complazco en la ley de Dios según el hombre interior,
23 But I perceive another law within my body, fighting against the law of my mind, and captivating me with the law of sin which is in my body.	23 pero advierto otra ley en mis miembros que lucha contra la ley de mi razón y me esclaviza a la ley del pecado que está en mis miembros.
24 Unhappy man that I am, who will free me from this body of death?	24 ¡Pobre de mí! ¿Quién me librará de este cuerpo que me lleva a la muerte?
25 The grace of God, by Jesus Christ our Lord! Therefore, I serve the law of God with my own mind; but with the flesh, the law of sin.	25 ¡Gracias sean dadas a Dios por Jesucristo nuestro Señor! Así pues, soy yo mismo quien con la razón sirve a la ley de Dios, mas con la carne, a la ley del pecado.
