1 And he also said to his disciples: “A certain man was wealthy, and he had a steward of his estate. And this man was accused to him of having dissipated his goods.	1 OR egli disse ancora a’ suoi discepoli: Vi era un uomo ricco, che avea un fattore; ed esso fu accusato dinanzi a lui, come dissipando i suoi beni.
2 And he called him and said to him: ‘What is this that I hear about you? Give an account of your stewardship. For you can no longer be my steward.’	2 Ed egli lo chiamò, e gli disse: Che cosa è questo che io odo di te? rendi ragione del tuo governo, perciocchè tu non puoi più essere mio fattore.
3 And the steward said within himself: ‘What shall I do? For my lord is taking the stewardship away from me. I am not strong enough to dig. I am too ashamed to beg.	3 E il fattore disse fra sè medesimo: Che farò? poichè il mio signore mi toglie il governo; io non posso zappare, e di mendicar mi vergogno.
4 I know what I will do so that, when I have been removed from the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.’	4 Io so ciò che io farò, acciocchè, quando io sarò rimosso dal governo, altri mi riceva in casa sua.
5 And so, calling together each one of his lord’s debtors, he said to the first, ‘How much do you owe my lord?’	5 Chiamati adunque ad uno ad uno i debitori del suo signore, disse al primo:
6 So he said, ‘One hundred jars of oil.’ And he said to him, ‘Take your invoice, and quickly, sit down and write fifty.’	6 Quanto devi al mio signore? Ed egli disse: Cento bati d’olio. Ed egli gli disse: Prendi la tua scritta, e siedi, e scrivine prestamente cinquanta.
7 Next, he said to another, ‘In truth, how much do you owe?’ And he said, ‘One hundred measures of wheat.’ He said to him, ‘Take your record books, and write eighty.’	7 Poi disse ad un altro: E tu, quanto devi? Ed egli disse: Cento cori di grano. Ed egli gli disse: Prendi la tua scritta, e scrivine ottanta.
8 And the lord praised the iniquitous steward, in that he had acted prudently. For the sons of this age are more prudent with their generation than are the sons of light.	8 E il signore lodò l’ingiusto fattore, perciocchè avea fatto avvedutamente; poichè i figliuoli di questo secolo sono più avveduti, nella lor generazione, che i figliuoli della luce.
9 And so I say to you, make friends for yourself using iniquitous mammon, so that, when you will have passed away, they may receive you into the eternal tabernacles.	9 Io altresì vi dico: Fatevi degli amici delle ricchezze ingiuste; acciocchè quando verrete meno, vi ricevano ne’ tabernacoli eterni.
10 Whoever is faithful in what is least, is also faithful in what is greater. And whoever is unjust in what is small, is also unjust in what is greater.	10 Chi è leale nel poco, è anche leale nell’assai; e chi è ingiusto nel poco, è anche ingiusto nell’assai.
11 So then, if you have not been faithful with iniquitous mammon, who will trust you with what is true?	11 Se dunque voi non siete stati leali nelle ricchezze ingiuste, chi vi fiderà le vere?
12 And if you have not been faithful with what belongs to another, who will give you what is yours?	12 E se non siete stati leali nell’altrui, chi vi darà il vostro?
13 No servant is able to serve two lords. For either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will cling to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”	13 Niun famiglio può servire a due signori; perciocchè, o ne odierà l’uno, ed amerà l’altro; ovvero, si atterrà all’uno, e sprezzerà l’altro; voi non potete servire a Dio, ed a Mammona.
14 But the Pharisees, who were greedy, were listening to all these things. And they ridiculed him.	14 OR i Farisei, ch’erano avari, udivano anch’essi tutte queste cose, e lo beffavano.
15 And he said to them: “You are the ones who justify yourselves in the sight of men. But God knows your hearts. For what is lifted up by men is an abomination in the sight of God.	15 Ed egli disse loro: Voi siete que’ che giustificate voi stessi davanti agli uomini, ma Iddio conosce i vostri cuori; perciocchè quel ch’è eccelso appo gli uomini è cosa abominevole nel cospetto di Dio.
16 The law and the prophets were until John. Since then, the kingdom of God is being evangelized, and everyone acts with violence toward it.	16 La legge e i profeti sono stati infino a Giovanni; da quel tempo il regno di Dio è evangelizzato, ed ognuno vi entra per forza.
17 But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away, than for one dot of the law to fall away.	17 Or egli è più agevole che il cielo e la terra passino, che non che un sol punto della legge cada.
18 Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery. And whoever marries her who has been divorced by her husband commits adultery.	18 Chiunque manda via la sua moglie, e ne sposa un’altra, commette adulterio; e chiunque sposa la donna mandata via dal marito commette adulterio
19 A certain man was wealthy, and he was clothed in purple and in fine linen. And he feasted splendidly every day.	19 OR vi era un uomo ricco, il qual si vestiva di porpora e di bisso, ed ogni giorno godeva splendidamente.
20 And there was a certain beggar, named Lazarus, who lay at his gate, covered with sores,	20 Vi era altresì un mendico, chiamato Lazaro, il quale giaceva alla porta d’esso, pieno d’ulceri.
21 wanting to be filled with the crumbs which were falling from the wealthy man’s table. But no one gave it to him. And even the dogs came and licked his sores.	21 E desiderava saziarsi delle miche che cadevano dalla tavola del ricco; anzi ancora i cani venivano, e leccavano le sue ulceri.
22 Then it happened that the beggar died, and he was carried by the Angels into the bosom of Abraham. Now the wealthy man also died, and he was entombed in Hell.	22 Or avvenne che il mendico morì, e fu portato dagli angeli nel seno d’Abrahamo; e il ricco morì anch’egli, e fu seppellito.
23 Then lifting up his eyes, while he was in torments, he saw Abraham far away, and Lazarus in his bosom.	23 Ed essendo ne’ tormenti nell’inferno, alzò gli occhi, e vide da lungi Abrahamo, e Lazaro nel seno d’esso.
24 And crying out, he said: ‘Father Abraham, take pity on me and send Lazarus, so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water to refresh my tongue. For I am tortured in this fire.’	24 Ed egli, gridando, disse: Padre Abrahamo, abbi pietà di me, e manda Lazaro, acciocchè intinga la punta del dito nell’acqua; e mi rinfreschi la lingua; perciocchè io son tormentato in questa fiamma.
25 And Abraham said to him: ‘Son, recall that you received good things in your life, and in comparison, Lazarus received bad things. But now he is consoled, and truly you are tormented.	25 Ma Abrahamo disse: Figliuolo, ricordati che tu hai ricevuti i tuoi beni in vita tua, e Lazaro altresì i mali; ma ora egli è consolato, e tu sei tormentato.
26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chaos has been established, so that those who might want to cross from here to you are not able, nor can someone cross from there to here.’	26 Ed oltre a tutto ciò, fra noi e voi è posta una gran voragine, talchè coloro che vorrebbero di qui passare a voi non possono; parimente coloro che son di là non passano a noi.
27 And he said: ‘Then, father, I beg you to send him to my father’s house, for I have five brothers,	27 Ed egli disse: Ti prego adunque, o padre, che tu lo mandi in casa di mio padre;
28 so that he may testify to them, lest they also come into this place of torments.’	28 perciocchè io ho cinque fratelli; acciocchè testifichi loro; che talora anch’essi non vengano in questo luogo di tormento.
29 And Abraham said to him: ‘They have Moses and the prophets. Let them listen to them.’	29 Abrahamo gli disse: Hanno Mosè i profeti, ascoltin quelli.
30 So he said: ‘No, father Abraham. But if someone were to go to them from the dead, they would repent.’	30 Ed egli disse: No, padre Abrahamo; ma, se alcun de’ morti va a loro, si ravvedranno.
31 But he said to him: ‘If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they believe even if someone has resurrected from the dead.’ ”	31 Ed egli gli disse: Se non ascoltano Mosè e i profeti, non pur crederanno, avvegnachè alcun de’ morti risusciti
