1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:	1 O Senhor disse a Moisés:
2 “First, avenge the sons of Israel from the Midianites, and then you shall be gathered to your people.”	2 "Vinga os filhos de Israel do mal que lhes fizeram os madianitas; depois disso serás reunido aos teus."
3 And immediately Moses said: “Arm the men among you for a battle, so that they may be able to fulfill the retribution of the Lord on the Midianites.	3 Moisés disse então ao povo: "Armem-se para a guerra alguns homens dentre vós: eles atacarão Madiã, para executarem sobre ele a vingança do Senhor.
4 Let one thousand men be chosen from each tribe of Israel, who shall be sent to war.”	4 Poreis em linha de combate mil homens de cada uma das tribos de Israel."
5 And they gave one thousand from each tribe, that is, twelve thousand foot soldiers for battle.	5 Reuniram-se, pois, dentre as famílias de Israel, mil homens por tribo, ou seja, doze mil homens de pé, prontos para o combate.
6 And Moses sent them with Phinehas, the son of Eleazar the priest; also, he delivered to him the holy vessels, and the trumpets to sound.	6 Moisés enviou-os ao combate; mil homens de cada tribo, com Finéias, filho do sacerdote Eleazar, que levou também os objetos sagrados e as trombetas para tocar.
7 And when they had fought against the Midianites and had prevailed, they killed all the men.	7 Atacaram os madianitas, como o Senhor tinha ordenado a Moisés, e mataram todos os varões.
8 And they put to death by the sword their kings: Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, the five leaders of the nation, and also Balaam the son of Beor.	8 Mataram também os reis de Madiã: Evi, Recém, Sur, Hur e Rebe, cinco reis de Madiã, e passaram ao fio da espada Balaão, filho de Beor.
9 And they seized their women and little ones, and all their cattle, and all their goods; whatever they were able to have, they despoiled.	9 Levaram prisioneiras as mulheres dos madianitas com seus filhos, e pilharam todo o seu gado, seus rebanhos e todos os seus bens.
10 Both their cities and their villages, as well as their fortresses, they burned.	10 Incendiaram todas as cidades que habitavam e todos os seus acampamentos.
11 And they carried away prey from everything that they had seized, both of men and of beasts.	11 Levaram consigo todo o espólio e todos os despojos, animais e pessoas,
12 And they led these to Moses and Eleazar the priest, and to all the multitude of the sons of Israel. But the remainder of the articles they carried to the camp on the plains of Moab, next to the Jordan, opposite Jericho.	12 e conduziram-nos a Moisés, ao sacerdote Eleazar e à assembléia dos israelitas no acampamento que se encontrava nas planícies de Moab, perto do Jordão, em face de Jericó.
13 Then Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the leaders of the assembly went out to meet them beyond the camp.	13 Moisés, o sacerdote Eleazar e todos os chefes da assembléia saíram-lhes ao encontro fora do acampamento.
14 And Moses, being angry with the leaders of the army, and the tribunes, and the centurions, who had arrived from the battle,	14 E Moisés, irado contra os generais do exército, os chefes de milhares e os chefes de centenas que voltavam da batalha, disse-lhes:
15 said: “Why have you spared the females?	15 "O que é isso? Deixastes com vida todas essas mulheres?
16 Are not these the ones who deceived the sons of Israel at the suggestion of Balaam, and who caused you betray the Lord by the sin of Peor, because of which the people also were struck down?	16 Mas são justamente elas que, instigadas por Balaão, levaram os israelitas a serem infiéis ao Senhor na questão de Fogor, a qual foi também a causa do flagelo que feriu a assembléia do Senhor!
17 Therefore, put to death all of them: whatever is of the male sex, even among the little ones, and cut the throats of those women who have known men by sexual relations.	17 Ide! Matai todos os filhos varões e todas as mulheres que tiverem tido comércio com um homem;
18 But the young girls, and all female virgins, reserve for yourselves.	18 mas deixai vivas todas as jovens que não o fizeram.
19 And remain beyond the camp for seven days. Whoever has killed a man, or who has touched one that was killed, shall be purified on the third day and on the seventh day.	19 E vós, acampai durante sete dias fora do acampamento. Todos os que tiverem matado um homem ou tocado em um morto, purificar-se-ão ao terceiro e ao sétimo dia, eles e seus prisioneiros.
20 And all of the spoils, whether it is a garment, or a vessel, or another useful thing, made from the pelts or hair of goats, or from wood, shall be expiated.”	20 Purificai também toda veste, todo objeto de pele, todo tecido de pêlo de cabra e todo utensílio de madeira."
21 Likewise, Eleazar the priest spoke in this manner to the men of the army who had fought: “This is the precept of the law, which the Lord has commanded Moses:	21 O sacerdote Eleazar disse então aos guerreiros que tinham combatido: "Eis o preceito da lei que o Senhor impôs a Moisés:
22 Gold, and silver, and brass, and iron, and lead, and tin,	22 o ouro, a prata, o bronze, o ferro, o estanho, o chumbo, tudo o que pode passar pelas chamas
23 and all that may be able to pass through fire, shall be purified by fire. But whatever is not able to sustain fire shall be sanctified with the waters of expiation.	23 será purificado no fogo; mas será também purificado pela água lustral. Tudo o que não suporta o fogo será purificado com a água.
24 And you shall wash your garments on the seventh day, and, after having been purified, you shall enter the camp.”	24 Lavareis vossas vestes no sétimo dia, para serdes puros; depois disso, voltareis ao acampamento."
25 And the Lord also said to Moses:	25 O Senhor disse a Moisés:
26 “Take the sum of those things which were captured, from man even to beast, you and Eleazar the priest, and the leaders of the common people.	26 "Fazei o inventário de todo o espólio que foi tomado, homens e animais, tu, o sacerdote Eleazar e os chefes de família da assembléia.
27 And you shall divide the prey equally, among those who went out to war and fought, and among the remainder of the multitude.	27 Repartirás em seguida a presa em partes iguais entre os que pelejaram, e entre todo o resto da assembléia.
28 And you shall separate a portion for the Lord from the portion of those who fought and were in the battle: one soul out of five hundred, as much from humans, as from oxen and donkeys and sheep.	28 Da parte daqueles que pelejaram e foram à guerra, separarás um tributo para o Senhor, um de cada quinhentos homens, gado, jumentos ou ovelhas.
29 And you shall give it to Eleazar the priest, because these are the first-fruits of the Lord.	29 Toma-o da sua metade para entregar ao sacerdote Eleazar, como oferta ao Senhor.
30 Likewise, from the half of the portion belonging to the sons of Israel, you shall receive the fiftieth head of humans, and of oxen, and donkeys, and sheep, and of all living things, and you shall give these to the Levites who stand watch over the care of the tabernacle of the Lord.”	30 Da metade que toca aos israelitas, tomarás um de cada cinqüenta, homens, bois, jumentos, ovelhas e qualquer outro animal, e darás aos levitas, que têm a guarda da casa do Senhor."
31 And Moses and Eleazar did just as the Lord had instructed.	31 Moisés e o sacerdote Eleazar fizeram como o Senhor tinha ordenado.
32 Now the prey which the army had seized was six hundred seventy-five thousand sheep,	32 Os despojos, o conjunto do espólio que tinha feito o exército era de seiscentos e setenta e cinco mil ovelhas,
33 seventy-two thousand oxen,	33 setenta e dois mil bois
34 sixty-one thousand donkeys,	34 e sessenta e um mil jumentos.
35 and thirty-two thousand human lives, of the female sex, who had not known men.	35 Havia também trinta e duas mil jovens que não tinham coabitado com homem algum.
36 And one half of the portion was given to those who had been in the battle: three hundred thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep.	36 Foi dada a metade àqueles que tinham ido ao combate, isto é, trezentas e trinta e sete mil e quinhentas ovelhas,
37 From these, for the portion of the Lord, there were accounted: six hundred seventy-five sheep;	37 das quais seiscentas e setenta e cinco para o tributo do Senhor;
38 and from the thirty-six thousand oxen, seventy-two oxen;	38 trinta e seis mil bois, dos quais setenta e dois para o tributo do Senhor;
39 from the thirty thousand five hundred donkeys, sixty-one donkeys.	39 trinta mil e quinhentos jumentos, dos quais sessenta e um para o tributo do Senhor;
40 From the sixteen thousand human souls, there fell to the portion of the Lord thirty-two souls.	40 dezesseis mil pessoas, das quais trinta e duas para o tributo do Senhor.
41 And Moses delivered the number of the first-fruits of the Lord to Eleazar the priest, just as had been commanded of him,	41 Moisés entregou ao sacerdote Eleazar o tributo tomado para o Senhor, como o Senhor lhe tinha ordenado.
42 from the one half portion belonging to the sons of Israel, which he had separated from the portion of those who had been in the battle.	42 Restava a metade destinada aos filhos de Israel, que Moisés havia separado da dos guerreiros.
43 Yet truly, from the one half portion which fell to the remainder of the multitude, that is, from the three hundred thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep,	43 Esta parte da assembléia compreendia trezentas e trinta e sete mil e quinhentas ovelhas,
44 and from the thirty-six thousand oxen,	44 trinta e seis mil bois,
45 and from the thirty thousand five hundred donkeys,	45 trinta mil e quinhentos jumentos
46 and from the sixteen thousand persons,	46 e dezesseis mil pessoas.
47 Moses took the fiftieth head, and gave it to the Levites who stand watch at the tabernacle of the Lord, just as the Lord had instructed.	47 Dessa metade dos israelitas Moisés tomou um de cada cinqüenta, homens e animais, e deu-os aos levitas, encarregados do serviço da casa do Senhor, assim como o Senhor lhe tinha ordenado.
48 And when the leaders of the army, and the tribunes, and the centurions had approached Moses, they said:	48 Os comandantes das tropas do exército, os chefes de milhares e de centenas
49 “We, your servants, have taken a census of the number of the fighting men, whom we had under our hand, and indeed not one was lacking.	49 aproximaram-se então de Moisés e disseram-lhe: "Teus servos fizeram a conta dos guerreiros que estiveram sob o nosso comando: não falta nem um sequer.
50 For this reason, we offer as gifts to the Lord whatever gold each one was able to find amid the spoils, in anklets and arm bands, rings and bracelets, and little chains, so that you may intercede for us to the Lord.”	50 Trazemos, pois, como oferta ao Senhor, tudo o que cada um encontrou de objetos de ouro: correntinhas, braceletes, anéis, brincos e colares, para que se faça expiação por nós diante do Senhor."
51 And Moses and Eleazar the priest received all the gold in its various kinds,	51 Moisés e o sacerdote Eleazar receberam deles esse ouro, toda a sorte de objetos artisticamente trabalhados.
52 weighing sixteen thousand seven hundred fifty shekels, from the tribunes and the centurions.	52 O peso total do ouro, que foi assim separado e oferecido ao Senhor da parte dos chefes de milhares e de centenas, era de dezesseis mil setecentos e cinqüenta siclos.
53 For whatever each one had taken away in the spoils was his own.	53 Os homens da tropa haviam pilhado cada um para si.
54 And having been accepted, they took it into the tabernacle of the testimony, as a memorial of the sons of Israel before the Lord.	54 Moisés e o sacerdote Eleazar, tendo recebido o ouro das mãos dos chefes de milhares e de centenas, levaram-no à tenda de reunião para que servisse de memorial diante do Senhor pelos israelitas.
