Isaiah 48

1 Listen to these things, O house of Jacob, you who are called by the name of Israel, and who went forth from the waters of Judah. You swear by the name of the Lord and you call to mind the God of Israel, but not in truth, and not in justice.	1 Écoutez ceci, maison de Jacob, vous qui portez le nom d’Israël, vous qui êtes la descendance de Juda et jurez par le nom de Yahvé, vous qui vous adressez au Dieu d’Israël, mais non dans le vrai et droit sens;
2 For they have been called from the holy city, and they have been founded upon the God of Israel. The Lord of hosts is his name.	2 vous qui vous réclamez de la Ville Sainte, et vous appuyez sur le Dieu d’Israël dont le nom est Yahvé Sabaot.
3 From that time, I announced the former things. They went forth from my mouth, and I have caused them to be heard. I wrought these things suddenly, and they were fulfilled.	3 Depuis longtemps j’avais annoncé les premiers événements; à peine sortaient-ils de ma bouche que je les faisais connaître. Soudain j’ai agi et ils se sont réalisés.
4 For I knew that you are stubborn, and that your neck is like an iron sinew, and that your forehead is like brass.	4 Je savais à quel point tu es têtu, que ta nuque est une barre de fer et que ton front est de bronze.
5 From that time, I foretold to you. Before these things happened, I revealed them to you, lest you say: “My idols have accomplished these things, and my graven and molten images have commanded them.”	5 Aussi dès ce temps-là je t’ai annoncé ces choses. Je te les ai fait connaître avant qu’elles n’arrivent, pour que tu ne puisses pas dire: “C’est mon fétiche qui les a accomplies, c’est ma statue, taillée ou fondue, qui les a ordonnées.”
6 See all the things that you have heard. But were you the ones who announced them? From that time, I caused you to hear about new things, and you do not know how these were preserved.	6 Tu as tout entendu, tu l’as vu, ne vas-tu pas le reconnaître? Maintenant, je te fais entendre des choses nouvelles, encore cachées et que tu ne sais pas.
7 They are created now, and not in that time. And even before today, you did not hear of them; otherwise, you might say, “Behold, I knew them.”	7 Ce n’est pas dans le passé qu’elles ont été créées, mais maintenant; jusqu’à ce jour tu n’en avais pas entendu parler, donc tu ne pourras pas dire: “Oui, je le savais.”
8 You have neither heard, nor known, nor were your ears open in that time. For I knew that you would transgress greatly, and so I called you a transgressor from the womb.	8 Tu ne connaissais rien de cela, tu n’en savais rien, jamais ton oreille ne l’avait entendu; car je savais à quel point tu es rebelle et qu’on t’appelle “Infidèle-depuis-le-sein-maternel.”
9 For the sake of my name, I will take the face of my fury far away. And for the sake of my praise, I will bridle you, lest you perish.	9 Mais à cause de mon Nom je retiens ma colère. Je veille à mon honneur, aussi je suis patient avec toi et je ne te fais pas disparaître.
10 Behold, I have refined you, but not like silver. I have chosen you for the furnace of poverty.	10 Regarde, je t’ai purifiée comme l’argent, je t’ai éprouvée au creuset du malheur.
11 For my sake, for my own sake, I will do it, so that I may not be blasphemed. For I will not give my glory to another.	11 Mais à cause de moi je vais agir, oui, à cause de moi: Comment pourrais-je supporter que mon Nom soit profané? Je n’abandonnerai ma gloire à personne.
12 Listen to me, O Jacob, and Israel whom I call. I am the same, I am the first, and I am the last.	12 Écoute-moi Jacob, Israël que j’ai appelé: c’est bien moi! Je suis le premier et je suis aussi le dernier.
13 Also, my hand has founded the earth, and my right hand has measured the heavens. I will call them, and they will stand together.	13 Ma main a fondé la terre, ma droite a étendu les cieux. Il me suffit de les appeler pour que tous ensemble se présentent.
14 Gather together, all of you, and listen. Who among them has announced these things? The Lord has loved him; he will do his will with Babylon, and his arm is upon the Chaldeans.	14 Rassemblez-vous tous et écoutez: qui, de tout ce monde-là, a fait cette annonce: “Yahvé aime cet homme, il accomplira sa volonté contre Babylone et la race des Kaldéens”?
15 I am, I have spoken, and I have called him. I have led him forward, and his way has been straight.	15 Moi, oui moi, j’ai parlé, car c’est moi qui l’appelais et qui faisais réussir ses projets.”
16 Draw near to me, and listen to this. From the beginning, I have not spoken in secret. From the time before it happened, I was there. And now, the Lord God has sent me, and his Spirit.	16 “Venez à moi et écoutez: dès le début je n’ai pas parlé en cachette. J’étais présent dès le début de ces événements. Et maintenant le Seigneur Yahvé m’envoie avec son Esprit.
17 Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: I am the Lord, your God, who teaches you beneficial things, who guides you in the way that you walk.	17 Voici ce que dit Yahvé, celui qui te rachète, le Saint d’Israël: “Je suis Yahvé ton Dieu; je t’instruis pour ton bien et te conduis sur le chemin où tu dois marcher.
18 If only you had paid attention to my commandments! Your peace would have been like a river, and your justice would have been like the waves of the sea,	18 Si tu avais été attentif à mes lois, ta prospérité serait comme un fleuve, et ta justice comme les vagues de la mer;
19 and your offspring would have been like the sand, and the stock from your loins would have been like its stones. His name would not have passed away, nor would it have been worn away before my face.	19 ta descendance serait comme le sable, et les fruits de ton sein comme les grains de sable; leur nom ne serait jamais retranché ni effacé de devant moi.”
20 Depart from Babylon! Flee from the Chaldeans! Announce it with a voice of exultation. Cause it to be heard, and carry it even to the ends of the earth. Say: “The Lord has redeemed his servant Jacob.”	20 Sortez de Babel, fuyez de chez les Kaldéens! Lancez ce cri de joie et qu’on l’entende, qu’il coure jusqu’aux extrémités de la terre, dites: “Yahvé a racheté son serviteur Jacob!
21 They did not thirst in the desert, when he led them out. He produced water from the rock for them. For he split the rock, and the waters flowed out.	21 Ils n’ont pas eu soif au désert où il les menait, pour eux il a tiré l’eau du rocher, il a fendu le roc et les eaux ont jailli.”
22 “There is no peace for the impious,” says the Lord.	22 Mais pas de paix pour les méchants, dit Yahvé.
