Sirach 7

1 Do not choose to do evil, and evil will not take hold of you.	1 Non fare il male, e il male non verrà sopra di te.
2 Withdraw from the iniquitous, and evil will withdraw from you.	2 Partiti dall'uom perverso, e sarai lungi dal male.
3 Son, do not sow evil in the furrows of injustice, and you will not reap them sevenfold.	3 Figliuolo, non seminare cattiva semenza ne' solchi dell'ingiustizia, e non avrai da mieterne il settuplo.
4 Do not seek a role of leadership from the Lord, and do not seek a seat of honor from the king.	4 Non chiedere al Signore di esser condottiere di altri, né al re un posto di onore.
5 You should not justify yourself before God, for he is the Knower of hearts. And by no means should you wish to seem wise before the king.	5 Non ti spacciare per giusto dinanzi a Dio; perocché egli è conoscitore de' cuori, e non allettare di comparire sapiente dinanzi al re.
6 Do not seek to become a judge, unless you have sufficient strength to shatter iniquities. Otherwise, you might fear the face of the powerful, and so establish a scandal within your integrity.	6 Non cercare di essere fatto pudice; se non hai petto da farti largo a traverso dell'iniquità: affinchè non avvenga, che tu temendo la faccia di un potente, abbi da esporre alle cadute la tua equità.
7 You should not sin against the multitude of a city, nor should you cast yourself against the people.	7 Guardati dall'offendere la moltitudine della città; e non ti gettare in mezzo al popolo.
8 And you should not bind two sins together. For even in one sin, you will not go unpunished.	8 Non congiungere peccato con peccato: perocché nemmen per un solo non sarai esente da pena.
9 Do not be cowardly in your soul.	9 Guardati dall'aver un cuor pusillanime:
10 You should not be unwilling to beg, nor to give alms.	10 Non trascurar l'orazione, e il far limosina.
11 You should not say: “God will look with favor on the multitude of my gifts, and when I make an offering to the most high God, he will accept my gift.”	11 Non dire: Iddio avrà riguardo a' molti miei doni, e quand'io offerirò i miei doni all'Altissimo, ei gli accetterà.
12 You should not ridicule a man in bitterness of soul. For there is One who humbles and who exalts: the all-seeing God.	12 Non ti burlare di un uomo, che ha il cuore afflitto; perocché quegli, che umilia, ed esalta, egli è Dio, che tutto vede.
13 Do not love a lie against your brother, nor should you act the same toward your friend.	13 Non inventar menzogne contro del tuo fratello; e noi fare similmente contro l'amico.
14 Do not be willing to devise a lie of any kind. For the practice of lying is not good.	14 Guardati dal proferire alcuna menzogna; perché l'avvezzarsi a ciò non è cosa buona.
15 Do not choose to be verbose among a multitude of elders, and you should not repeat the words of your prayers.	15 Non essere verboso nella adunanza de' seniori; e non ripeter parola nella tua orazione.
16 You should not hate laborious works, nor the rustic life created by the Most High.	16 Non odiare le opere di fatica, né l'agricoltura istituita dall'Altissimo.
17 You should not consider yourself to be among the multitude of the undisciplined.	17 Non ti associare alla turba degli indisciplinati.
18 Remember wrath. For it will not be delayed.	18 Ricorditi dell'ira, la quale non sarà lenta.
19 Humble your spirit greatly. For the retribution against the flesh of the impious is with fire and worms.	19 Umilia grandemente il tuo spirito: perocché il fuoco, e il verme puniranno la carne dell'empio.
20 Do not betray your friend for the sake of money, and you should not spurn your dearest brother for the sake of gold.	20 Non venir in rottura coll'amico, che tarda a renderti del denaro; e non disprezzare un fratello carissimo in confronto dell'oro.
21 Do not choose to depart from a good and understanding wife, whom you have been allotted in the fear of the Lord. For the grace of her modesty is above gold.	21 Non ti separar da una donna giudiziosa, e dabbene, la quale nel timor del Signore ti toccò in sorte; perocché la grazia della sua verecondia val più che l'oro.
22 You should not harm the servant whose works are honest, nor the hired hand who entrusts his life to you.	22 Non maltrattare il tuo servo, che opera con fedeltà; né il mercenario, che consuma per te la sua vita.
23 Let an understanding servant be loved by you like your own soul. You should not cheat him out of freedom, nor abandon him to destitution.	23 Il servo sensato sia amato da te, come l'anima tua, non gli negare la sua libertà, e nol lasciare in miseria.
24 Are cattle yours? Tend to them. And if they are useful, let them remain with you.	24 Hai tu de' bestiami? va a visitarli; e se sono utili, restino presso di te.
25 Are sons yours? Instruct them, and bow them down from their childhood.	25 Hai tu de' figliuoli? istruiscili, e domali dalla loro puerizia.
26 Are daughters yours? Watch over their bodies. And you should not display a light-hearted attitude toward them.	26 Hai tu delle figliuole? custodisci la loro verginità, e non mostrar ad esse il viso ridente.
27 Give your daughter in marriage, and give her to an understanding man, and you will be doing a great work.	27 Da a marito la figliuola, ed hai fatto un'opera grande; ma dalla ad un uomo sensato.
28 If a wife in accord with your soul is yours, you should not reject her. But do not entrust yourself to her who is hateful.	28 Se tu hai una moglie secondo cuor tuo, non la mandar via; e nondarti ad una, che sia odiosa.
29 With your whole heart, honor your father. And you should not forget the complaints of your mother.	29 Con tutto il cuor tuo onora il padre tuo; e non ti scordare de' gemiti di tua madre.
30 Remember that you would not have been born except through them. And so, give back to them as they also have done for you.	30 Ricordati, che senza di essi tu non saresti nato; e rendi ad essi secondo quello, che han fatto per te.
31 With all your soul, fear the Lord, and consider his priests to be holy.	31 Temi il Signore con tutta l'anima tua, e onora i suoi sacerdoti.
32 With all your strength, love him who made you, and you should not abandon his ministers.	32 Con tutte le tue forze ama colui, che ti ha creato: e non abbandonare i suoi ministri.
33 Honor God from your whole soul, and confer honor on the priests, and continue to purify yourself with your strength.	33 Onora il Signore con tutta l'anima tua, e rispetta i sacerdoti; e mondati offerendo le spalle (delle ostie).
34 Give them their portion, just as it has been commanded of you, from the first-fruits and from the purifications. And for your ignorant offenses, purify yourself with a smaller offering.	34 Da ad essi la parte delle primizie, e (delle ostie) di espiazione, come fu a te comandato; e mondati dalla tua negligenza colle poche (vittime).
35 You should offer to the Lord the gift of your strength, and the sacrifice of sanctification, and the first-fruits of what is holy.	35 Offerirai in dono al Signore le spalle delle tue vittime, e il sagrifizio di santificazione, e le primizie delle cose sante:
36 And reach out your hand to the poor, so that your atonement and your blessing may be perfected.	36 E stendi al povero la tua mano (affinchè sia perfetta la tua propiziazione, e la tua benedizione).
37 A gift has grace in the sight of all the living, but you should not prohibit grace for the dead.	37 La beneficenza è gradita a tutti i viventi; e tu non negarla nemmeno ai morti.
38 You should not fail to console those who are weeping, nor to walk with those who are mourning.	38 Non mancare di porgere consolazione a chi piange; e tieni compagnia agli afflitti.
39 Do not let yourself be slow to visit the sick. For in this way, you will be confirmed in love.	39 Non ti paia greve il visitare il malato; perocché per tali mezzi ti fonderai nella carità.
40 In all your works, remember your very end, and so you will not sin, unto eternity.	40 In tutte le tue azioni ricordati del tuo ultimo fine, e non peccherai in eterno.
