Sirach 41

CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 O death, how bitter is the memory of you: to a man who has peace in his substance,	1 ¡Muerte, qué amargo es tu recuerdo para el que vive tranquilo en medio de sus bienes, para el hombre despreocupado, a quien todo le va bien y aún tiene vigor para disfrutar de la vida!
2 to a quiet man, and to him whose ways are directed properly in all things, and who still has the strength to take nourishment.	2 ¡Muerte, tu sentencia es bienvenida para el hombre necesitado y sin fuerzas, gastado por los años y lleno de ansiedades, que se rebela y ha agotado su paciencia!
3 O death, your judgment is good to the indigent man, and to him whose strength has diminished,	3 No temas a tu sentencia de muerte, recuerda a los que te precedieron y te seguirán.
4 who is failing due to old age, and who is anxious about all things, and to the unbelieving man who has lost patience.	4 Esta es la sentencia del Señor para todo ser viviente: ¿por qué oponerse a la voluntad del Altísimo? Aunque vivas diez, cien o mil años, en el Abismo no te echarán en cara lo que hayas vivido.
5 Do not choose to dread the judgment of death. Remember the things that occurred before you, and the things that will occur after you. This judgment is from the Lord upon all flesh.	5 Los hijos de los pecadores son gente abominable que frecuentan las casas de los impíos.
6 And what will happen to you is well-pleasing to the Most High, whether in ten, or one hundred, or one thousand years.	6 La herencia de los hijos de los pecadores va a la ruina, con su descendencia se perpetúa su infamia.
7 For death is no indictment of life.	7 Un padre impío se atrae los reproches de sus hijos, porque es a él a quien deben su infamia.
8 The sons of sinners, and those who pass their time in the manner of the houses of the impious, become sons of abominations.	8 ¡Ay de ustedes, hombres impíos, que han abandonado la Ley del Dios Altísimo!
9 The inheritance of the sons of sinners will perish, and continual disgrace will be with their offspring.	9 Si ustedes nacen, nacen para la maldición, y si mueren, les tocará en suerte la maldición.
10 The sons of an impious father will complain, for they are in disgrace because of him.	10 Todo lo que sale de la tierra, vuelve a la tierra: así pasan los impíos, de la maldición a la ruina.
11 Woe to you, impious men, who have abandoned the law of the Most High Lord!	11 Los hombres se lamentan porque perece su cuerpo. y en cuanto a los pecadores, hasta su mal nombre se borrará..
12 And when you are born, you will be born into a curse; and when you die, your portion will be in a curse.	12 Cuida tu buen nombre, porque eso te quedará mucho más que mil tesoros de oro.
13 All things that are from the earth shall return to the earth. Similarly, the impious will proceed from a curse unto perdition.	13 Una vida feliz tiene sus días contados, pero el buen nombre permanece para siempre.
14 The grieving of men is in their body, but the name of the impious will be wiped away.	14 Hijos míos, observen en paz mi enseñanza. Sabiduría escondida y tesoro invisible: ¿de qué sirven una cosa y la otra?
15 Have concern for your good name. For this will continue with you, more so than a thousand precious and great treasures.	15 Es preferible el hombre que disimula su necedad al que oculta su sabiduría.
16 A good life has its number of days, but a good name will continue forever.	16 Por lo tanto, sientan vergüenza de lo que les voy a indicar, porque no está bien avergonzarse por cualquier cosa ni toda vergüenza merece ser igualmente aprobada.
17 Sons, practice discipline peacefully. For what use is there in either concealed wisdom, or undiscovered treasure?	17 Tengan vergüenza de la fornicación ante su padre y su madre, y de la mentira, ante un jefe y un poderoso;
18 Better is the man who hides his foolishness than the man who hides his wisdom.	18 del delito ante un juez y un magistrado, y de la iniquidad ante la asamblea del pueblo;
19 Yet truly, have respect for these things which proceed from my mouth.	19 de la injusticia ante un compañero y un amigo, y del robo ante su vecindario;
20 For it is not good to observe every reverence. And all things do not please all persons in their beliefs.	20 de violar un juramento y un pacto, y de apoyar los codos en la mesa;
21 Have shame of these things: of fornication before father and mother, and of a lie before the first leader and the powerful,	21 de dar o recibir con desdén, y de no devolver el saludo;
22 of a crime before a ruler or a judge, of iniquity before a congregation or a people,	22 de mirar a una prostituta, y de dar vuelta la cara a un pariente;
23 of injustice before a companion or a friend, and of the place in which you live,	23 de quitar a otro su parte o el regalo que recibió, y de mirar a una mujer casada;
24 of theft, and of the truth before God, and of the covenant, of reclining to eat bread, and of deceitfulness in giving or receiving,	24 de tener intimidades con tu sirvienta, ¡no te acerques a su lecho!
25 of silence before those who greet you, of looking upon a woman of fornication, and of averting your face from a relative.	25 de decir palabras hirientes a tus amigos ¡lo que les des no se lo eches en cara!
26 You should not avert your face from your neighbor, nor should you take away a portion and not restore it.	26 de repetir lo que has oído y de revelar los secretos.
27 You should not stare at another man’s wife, and nor pursue his handmaid, nor approach her bed.	27 Entonces sentirás una auténtica vergüenza, y serás bien visto por todos los hombres.
28 Avoid reproachful speeches before friends, and when you give, you should not place blame.
