Proverbs 31

1 The words of king Lamuel. The vision by which his mother instructed him:	1 Parole di Lemuèl, re di Massa, che sua madre gli insegnò.
2 “What, O my beloved? What, O beloved of my womb? What, O beloved of my vows?	2 E che, figlio mio! E che, figlio delle mie viscere! E che, figlio dei miei voti!
3 Do not give your substance to women, or your riches to overthrow kings.	3 Non dare il tuo vigore alle donne, né i tuoi costumi a quelle che corrompono i re.
4 Not to kings, O Lamuel, not to kings give wine. For there are no secrets where drunkenness reigns.	4 Non conviene ai re, Lemuèl, non conviene ai re bere il vino, né ai principi bramare bevande inebrianti,
5 And perhaps they may drink and forget judgments, and alter the case of the sons of the poor.	5 per paura che, bevendo, dimentichino i loro decreti e tradiscano il diritto di tutti gli afflitti.
6 Give strong drink to the grieving, and wine to those who are bitter in soul.	6 Date bevande inebrianti a chi sta per perire e il vino a chi ha l'amarezza nel cuore.
7 Let them drink, and forget their needs, and remember their sorrow no more.	7 Beva e dimentichi la sua povertà e non si ricordi più delle sue pene.
8 Open your mouth for the mute and for all the cases of the sons who are passing through.	8 Apri la bocca in favore del muto in difesa di tutti gli sventurati.
9 Open your mouth, declare what is just, and do justice to the indigent and the poor.	9 Apri la bocca e giudica con equità e rendi giustizia all'infelice e al povero.
10 Who shall find a strong woman? Far away, and from the furthest parts, is her price.	10 (Alef) Una donna perfetta chi potrà trovarla? Ben superiore alle perle è il suo valore.
11 The heart of her husband confides in her, and he will not be deprived of spoils.	11 (Bet) In lei confida il cuore del marito e non verrà a mancargli il profitto.
12 She will repay him with good, and not evil, all the days of her life.	12 (Ghimel) Essa gli dà felicità e non dispiacere per tutti i giorni della sua vita.
13 She has sought wool and flax, and she has worked these by the counsel of her hands.	13 (Dalet) Si procura lana e lino e li lavora volentieri con le mani.
14 She has become like a merchant’s ship, bringing her bread from far away.	14 (He) Ella è simile alle navi di un mercante, fa venire da lontano le provviste.
15 And she has risen in the night, and given a prey to her household, and provisions to her maids.	15 (Vau) Si alza quando ancora è notte e prepara il cibo alla sua famiglia e dà ordini alle sue domestiche.
16 She has considered a field and bought it. From the fruit of her own hands, she has planted a vineyard.	16 (Zain) Pensa ad un campo e lo compra e con il frutto delle sue mani pianta una vigna.
17 She has wrapped her waist with fortitude, and she has strengthened her arm.	17 (Het) Si cinge con energia i fianchi e spiega la forza delle sue braccia.
18 She has tasted and seen that her tasks are good; her lamp shall not be extinguished at night.	18 (Tet) È soddisfatta, perché il suo traffico va bene, neppure di notte si spegne la sua lucerna.
19 She has put her hand to strong things, and her fingers have taken hold of the spindle.	19 (Iod) Stende la sua mano alla conocchia e mena il fuso con le dita.
20 She has opened her hand to the needy, and she has extended her hands to the poor.	20 (Caf) Apre le sue mani al misero, stende la mano al povero.
21 She shall not fear, in the cold of snow, for her household. For all those of her household have been clothed two-fold.	21 (Lamed) Non teme la neve per la sua famiglia, perché tutti i suoi di casa hanno doppia veste.
22 She has made embroidered clothing for herself. Fine linen and purple is her garment.	22 (Mem) Si fa delle coperte, di lino e di porpora sono le sue vesti.
23 Her husband is noble at the gates, when he sits among the senators of the land.	23 (Nun) Suo marito è stimato alle porte della città dove siede con gli anziani del paese.
24 She has made finely woven cloth and sold it, and she has delivered a waistband to the Canaanite.	24 (Samech) Confeziona tele di lino e le vende e fornisce cinture al mercante.
25 Strength and elegance are her clothing, and she will laugh in the final days.	25 (Ain) Forza e decoro sono il suo vestito e se la ride dell'avvenire.

27 She has considered the paths of her household, and she has not eaten her bread in idleness.	27 (Sade) Sorveglia l'andamento della casa; il pane che mangia non è frutto di pigrizia.
28 Her sons rose up and predicted great happiness; her husband rose up and praised her.	28 (Kof) I suoi figli sorgono a proclamarla beata e suo marito a farne l'elogio:
29 Many daughters have gathered together riches; you have surpassed them all.	29 (Res) "Molte figlie hanno compiuto cose eccellenti, ma tu le hai superate tutte!".
30 Charm is false, and beauty is vain. The woman who fears the Lord, the same shall be praised.	30 (Sin) Fallace è la grazia e vana è la bellezza, ma la donna che teme Dio è da lodare.
31 Give to her from the fruit of her own hands. And let her works praise her at the gates.	31 (Tau) Datele del frutto delle sue mani e le sue stesse opere la lodino alle porte della città.
