Proverbs 20

1 It is a luxurious thing, wine, and inebriation is tumultuous. Anyone who is delighted by this will not be wise.	1 Il vino è pieno di lussuria,e e l'ubriachezza di tumulti: colui al quale piaccion tali cose non sarà sapiente.
2 Just like the roaring of a lion, so also is the dread of a king. Whoever provokes him sins in his own soul.	2 L'ira del re è come il ruggito del leone, chi lo irrita pecca contro la sua vita.
3 Honor is for the man who separates himself from contentions. But all the foolish meddle in altercations.	3 E' un onore per l'uomo star lontano dalle contese, ma tutti gli stolti s'immischiano nei litigi.
4 Because of the cold, the lazy one was not willing to plough. Therefore, in the summer, he will beg, and it will not be given to him.	4 A causa del freddo il pigro non volle arare, andrà dunque ad accattare nell'estate, e non gli sarà dato nulla.
5 Counsel in the heart of a man is like deep waters. But a wise man will draw it out.	5 Come acque profonde sono i disegni nel cuore dell'uomo, ma l'uomo sapiente li trarrà fuori.
6 Many men are called merciful. But who will find a faithful man?	6 Molti uomini son chiamati misericordiosi, ma un uomo fedele chi lo potrà trovare?
7 The just who walks in his simplicity shall leave behind him blessed sons.	7 Il giusto che cammina nella sua integrità lascerà felici dietro di sé i suoi figlioli.
8 The king who sits on the throne of judgment scatters all evil with his gaze.	8 Il re assiso sul trono dove rende giustizia col suo sguardo dissipa ogni male.
9 Who is able to say: “My heart is clean. I am pure from sin?”	9 Chi può dire: « Il mio cuore è senza macchia, sono immune dal peccato? »
10 Diverse weights, diverse measures: both are abominable with God.	10 Doppio peso, doppia misura, sono ambedue abbonainevoli davanti a Dio.
11 A child may be understood by his interests: whether his works may be clean and upright.	11 Dalle inclinazioni del fanciullo si conosce se puro e retto sarà il suo operare.
12 The hearing ear and the seeing eye: the Lord has made them both.	12 L'orecchio che ascolta e l'occhio che vede li ha fatti tutti e due il Signore.
13 Do not love sleep, lest deprivation oppress you. Open your eyes and be satisfied with bread.	13 Non amare il sonno, per non essere oppresso dall'indigenza; tieni gli occhi aperti ed avrai pane in abbondanza.
14 “It is bad, it is bad,” says every buyer; and when he has withdrawn, then he will boast.	14 « Robaccia, robaccia! » dice ogni compratore, ma quando se n'è andato se ne vanta.
15 There is gold, and there are a multitude of jewels. But lips of knowledge are a precious vessel.	15 Vi è l'oro, e vi sono molte gemme, ma vaso prezioso son le labbra sapienti.
16 Take away the vestments of him who stands up to vouch for a stranger, and take a pledge from him instead of from outsiders.	16 Togli la veste a chi si fa mallevadore per uno straniero, e poi' gli stranieri togli il pegno da lui.
17 The bread of lies is sweet to a man. But afterwards, his mouth will be filled with pebbles.	17 E' dolce all'uomo il pan frodato, ma poi si trova la bocca piena di ghiaiottoli.
18 Plans are strengthened by counsels. And wars are to be handled by governments.	18 I disegni prendon vigore dal consiglio, e con savia direzione devono esser condotte le guerre.
19 Do not become involved with him who reveals mysteries, and who walks deceitfully, and who enlarges his lips.	19 Con chi rivela i segreti e procede con frode, e apro troppo le labbra, non aver che fare.
20 Whoever curses his father and mother, his lamp will be extinguished in the midst of darkness.	20 Chi maledice il padre e la madre, si estinguerà la sua lampada nel folto delle tenebre.
21 When an inheritance is obtained hastily in the beginning, in the end it will be without a blessing.	21 Il patrimonio messo insieme da principio con celerità, sarà alla fine privo di benedizione.
22 Do not say, “I will repay evil.” Wait for the Lord, and he will free you.	22 Non dire: « Mi vendicherò »; aspetta il Signore ed Egli ti libererà.
23 Diverse weights are an abomination with the Lord. A deceitful balance is not good.	23 E' in abominio davanti a Dio il doppio peso, e la bilancia falsa non è cosa buona.
24 The steps of men are directed by the Lord. But who is the man able to understand his own way?	24 I passi dell'uomo son diretti dal Signore, chi degli uomini potrà capire la via da tenere?
25 It is ruin for a man to devour what is holy, or, after making vows, to retract them.	25 E' rovinoso per l'uomo divorare i santi, e dopo i voti pentirsene.
26 A wise king scatters the impious and bends an archway over them.	26 Il re saggio disperde gli empi ed innalza sopra di essi un arco trionfale.
27 The spirit of a man is a lamp to the Lord, which investigates all the secrets of the inner self.	27 Lo spirito dell'uomo è fiaccola del Signore la quale penetra le più intime viscere.
28 Mercy and truth guard the king, and his throne is strengthened by clemency.	28 La bontà e la fedeltà custodiscono il re; il trono di lui è reso stabile dalla clemenza.
29 The joy of youths is their strength. And the dignity of old men is their grey hairs.	29 Gloria dei giovani è la loro forza, ornamento dei vecchi è la canizie.
30 The bruise of a wound, as well as scourges, shall wipe away evils in the more secret places of the inner self.	30 Il livido delle percosse fa sparire i mali, così pure le piaghe nel più intimo delle viscere.
