Unto the end. May you not destroy. Of David, with the inscription of a title.1 For the director. Do not destroy. A miktam of David, when he fled from Saul into a cave.
If, truly and certainly, you speak justice, then judge what is right, you sons of men.2 Have mercy on me, God, have mercy on me. In you I seek shelter. In the shadow of your wings I seek shelter till harm pass by.
For, even in your heart, you work iniquity. Your hands construct injustice on the earth.3 I call to God Most High, to God who provides for me.
Sinners have become foreigners from the womb; they have gone astray from conception. They have been speaking falsehoods.4 May God send help from heaven to save me, shame those who trample upon me. May God send fidelity and love. Selah
Their fury is similar to that of a serpent; it is like a deaf asp, who even blocks her ears,5 I must lie down in the midst of lions hungry for human prey. Their teeth are spears and arrows; their tongue, a sharpened sword.
who will not listen to the voice of charmers, nor even to the enchanter who chants wisely.6 Show yourself over the heavens, God; may your glory appear above all the earth.
God will crush their teeth within their own mouth. The Lord will break the molars of the lions.7 They have set a trap for my feet; my soul is bowed down; They have dug a pit before me. May they fall into it themselves! Selah
They will come to nothing, like water flowing away. He has aimed his bow, while they are being weakened.8 My heart is steadfast, God, my heart is steadfast. I will sing and chant praise.
Like wax that flows, they will be carried away. Fire has fallen upon them, and they will not see the sun.9 Awake, my soul; awake, lyre and harp! I will wake the dawn.
Before your thorns could know the brier, he consumes them alive, as if in rage.10 I will praise you among the peoples, Lord; I will chant your praise among the nations.
The just one will rejoice when he sees vindication. He will wash his hands in the blood of the sinner.11 For your love towers to the heavens; your faithfulness, to the skies.
And man will say, “If the just one is fruitful, then, truly, there is a God judging them on earth.”12 Show yourself over the heavens, God; may your glory appear above all the earth.
