1 Do you know at what time the wild goats have given birth among the rocks, or do you observe the deer when they go into labor?	1 E' egli a te noto il tempo, in cui le capre salvatiche partoriscono nelle spelonche; od hai tu osservato il partorir delle cerve?
2 Have you numbered the months since their conception, and do you know at what time they gave birth?	2 Hai tu contati i mesi di lor gravidanza, e segnato il tempo del loro parto?
3 They bend themselves for their offspring, and they give birth, and they emit roars.	3 Elle si incurvano, e partoriscono urlando.
4 Their young are weaned and go out to feed; they depart and do not return to them.	4 Si separano da esse i loro parti, e vanno alla pastura: se ne vanno, né tornan più a rivederle.
5 Who has set the wild ass free, and who has released his bonds?	5 Chi pose l'asino salvatico in libertà, e da ogni freno lo sciolse?
6 I have given a house in solitude to him, and his tabernacle is in the salted land.	6 A lui io diedi per casa il deserto, e per istanza una terra infeconda.
7 He despises the crowded city; he does not pay attention to the bellow of the tax collector.	7 Egli dispregia gli strepiti delle città, e non ode le grida di un duro padrone.
8 He looks around the mountains of his pasture, and he searches everywhere for green plants.	8 Volge egli in giro gli occhi alle montagne di sua pastura, e va in traccia di ogni genere di verzura.
9 Will the rhinoceros be willing to serve you, and will he remain in your stall?	9 Vorrà egli servire a te il rinoceronte, o starsene alla tua mangiatoia?
10 Can you detain the rhinoceros with your harness to plough for you, and will he loosen the soil of the furrows behind you?	10 Porrai tu al tuo giogo ad arare il rinoceronte; o romperà egli dietro a te le zolle delle tue valli?
11 Will you put your faith in his great strength, and delegate your labors to him?	11 Ti fiderai tu della sua gran forza, e a cura di lui porrai i tuoi lavori di campagna?
12 Will you trust him to return to you the seed, and to gather it on your drying floor?	12 Credi tu ch'ei ti renderà la tua semente, ed empierà la tua aia?
13 The wing of the ostrich is like the wings of the heron, and of the hawk.	13 La piuma dello struzzo è simile alle penne della cicogna, e dello sparviere.
14 When she leaves eggs behind in the earth, will you perhaps warm them in the dust?	14 Quand'egli abbandona le sue uova per terra, se tu' forse, che tralla polvere le riscaldi?
15 She forgets that feet may trample them, or that the beasts of the field may shatter them.	15 Egli non pensa, che il piede le schiaccerà, o le fiere selvagge le pesteranno.
16 She is hardened against her young, as if they were not hers; she has labored in vain, with no fear compelling her.	16 Egli è crudele verso i suoi parti, come se suoi non fossero, egli getta le sue fatiche, senza che timore alcuno il costringa.
17 For God has deprived her of wisdom; neither has he given her understanding.	17 Perché il Signore lo privò di saggezza, e non gli diede discernimento.
18 Yet, when the time is right, she raises her wings on high; she ridicules the horse and his rider.	18 Ma quando è tempo egli stende in alto sue ali, o si burla del cavallo, e del cavaliere.
19 Will you supply strength to the horse, or envelope his throat with neighing?	19 Sarai tu che darai fortezza al cavallo, o la sua gola empierai di nitriti?
20 Will you alarm him as the locusts do? His panic is revealed by the display of his nostrils.	20 Lo farai tu saltellare come le locuste? la maestà delle sue narici atterrisce?
21 He digs at the earth with his hoof; he jumps around boldly; he advances to meet armed men.	21 Scalza la terra colla zampa, saltella con brio, va incontro agli armati,
22 He despises fear; he does not turn away from the sword.	22 Disprezzator di paura, nol rattiene la spada.
23 Above him, the quiver rattles, the spear and the shield shake.	23 Sente sopra di se il rumor del turcasso, il vibrar delle lance, e il moto dello scudo.
24 Seething and raging, he drinks up the earth; neither does he pause when the blast of the trumpet sounds.	24 Spumante, e fremente si mangia la terra, né aspetta che suoni la tromba.
25 When he hears the bugle, he says, “Ha!” He smells the battle from a distance, the exhortation of the officers, and the battle cry of the soldiers.	25 Sentita ch'egli ha la tromba, dice: Bene sta. Sente da lungi l'odor di battaglia, le esortazioni de' capitani, e le strida delle milizie.
26 Does the hawk grow feathers by means of your wisdom, spreading her wings towards the south?	26 Forse per effetto di tua sapienza si veste lo sparviere di piume, e le ali distende verso il mezzodì?
27 Will the eagle lift herself up at your command and make her nest in steep places?	27 Forse al tuo comando si leverà in alto l'aquila, e in luoghi eccelsi farà, suo nido?
28 She dwells among the rocks, and she lingers among broken boulders and inaccessible cliffs.	28 Se ne sta ella sui massi, e negli scoscesi dirupi, e su' gioghi inaccessibili.
29 From there, she looks for food, and her eyes catch sight of it from far away.	29 Di là ella contempla la preda, e i suoi occhi veggono in gran lontananza.
30 Her young will drink blood, and wherever the carcass will be, she is there immediately.	30 I suoi aquilotti leccano il sangue, e dovunque sia un cadavere tosto ella, si trova.
31 And the Lord continued, and he said to Job:	31 E il Signore soggiunse, e disse a Giobbe:
32 Will he who contends with God be so easily silenced? Certainly, he who argues with God must also respond to him.	32 Colui che alterca con Dio, si acquieterà egli si facilmente? Certo che chi vuoi riprendere Dio debbe rispondergli.
33 Then Job answered the Lord, saying:	33 Ma Giobbe rispose al Signore, e disse:
34 What could I possibly answer, since I have been speaking thoughtlessly? I will place my hand over my mouth.	34 Io che ho parlato con leggerezza, che posso rispondere? mi porrò la mano alla bocca.
35 One thing I have spoken, which I wish I had not said; and another, to which I will add no more.	35 Una cosa ho detto, la quale non avess'io detta giammai; e anche un'altra, alle quali niente più aggiungerò.
