1 Chronicles 23

1 Then David, being old and full of days, appointed his son Solomon as king over Israel.	1 Igitur David, senex et plenus dierum, regem constituit Salomonem filium suum super Israël.
2 And he gathered together all the leaders of Israel, with the priests as well as the Levites.	2 Et congregavit omnes principes Israël, et sacerdotes atque Levitas.
3 And the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years and upward. And there were found thirty-eight thousand men.	3 Numeratique sunt Levitæ a triginta annis et supra : et inventa sunt triginta octo millia virorum.
4 Of these, twenty-four thousand were chosen and distributed to the ministry of the house of the Lord. Then six thousand were overseers and judges.	4 Ex his electi sunt, et distributi in ministerium domus Domini, viginti quatuor millia : præpositorum autem et judicum, sex millia.
5 Moreover, four thousand were porters. And the same number were the singers of psalms to the Lord, with the musical instruments which he had made for the music.	5 Porro quatuor millia janitores, et totidem psaltæ, canentes Domino in organis quæ fecerat ad canendum.
6 And David distributed them into courses according to the sons of Levi, specifically, Gershom, and Kohath, and Merari.	6 Et distribuit eos David per vices filiorum Levi, Gerson videlicet, et Caath, et Merari.
7 The sons of Gershom: Ladan and Shimei.	7 Filii Gerson : Leedan, et Semei.
8 The sons of Ladan: the leader Jahiel, and Zetham, and Joel, three.	8 Filii Leedan : princeps Jahiel, et Zethan, et Joël, tres.
9 The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the leaders of the families of Ladan.	9 Filii Semei : Salomith, et Hosiel, et Aran, tres : isti principes familiarum Leedan.
10 Then the sons of Shimei: Jahath, and Zizah, and Jeush, and Beriah. These were the sons of Shimei, four.	10 Porro filii Semei : Leheth, et Ziza, et Jaus, et Baria : isti filii Semei, quatuor.
11 Now Jahath was first, Zizah second, but Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons, and for this reason they were reckoned as one family and one house.	11 Erat autem Leheth prior, Ziza secundus : porro Jaus et Baria non habuerunt plurimos filios, et idcirco in una familia, unaque domo computati sunt.
12 The sons of Kohath: Amram and Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel, four.	12 Filii Caath : Amram, et Isaar, Hebron, et Oziel, quatuor.
13 The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. Now Aaron was separated so that he might minister in the Holy of Holies, he and his sons forever, and so that he might burn incense to the Lord, according to his rite, and so that he might bless his name in perpetuity.	13 Filii Amram : Aaron et Moyses. Separatusque est Aaron ut ministraret in Sancto sanctorum, ipse et filii ejus in sempiternum, et adoleret incensum Domino secundum ritum suum, ac benediceret nomini ejus in perpetuum.
14 The sons of Moses, the man of God, were also numbered in the tribe of Levi.	14 Moysi quoque hominis Dei filii annumerati sunt in tribu Levi.
15 The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer.	15 Filii Moysi : Gersom et Eliezer.
16 The sons of Gershom: Shebuel the first.	16 Filii Gersom : Subuel primus.
17 Now the sons of Eliezer were Rehabiah the first. And there were no other sons for Eliezer. But the sons of Rehabiah were multiplied exceedingly.	17 Fuerunt autem filii Eliezer : Rohobia primus : et non erant Eliezer filii alii. Porro filii Rohobia multiplicati sunt nimis.
18 The sons of Izhar: Shelomith the first.	18 Filii Isaar : Salomith primus.
19 The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, Jekameam the fourth.	19 Filii Hebron : Jeriau primus, Amarias secundus, Jahaziel tertius, Jecmaam quartus.
20 The sons of Uzziel: Micah the first, Isshiah the second.	20 Filii Oziel : Micha primus, Jesia secundus.
21 The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish.	21 Filii Merari : Moholi, et Musi. Filii Moholi : Eleazar et Cis.
22 Then Eleazar died, and had no sons, but only daughters. And so the sons of Kish, their brothers, married them.	22 Mortuus est autem Eleazar, et non habuit filios, sed filias : acceperuntque eas filii Cis fratres earum.
23 The sons of Mushi: Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three.	23 Filii Musi : Moholi, et Eder, et Jerimoth, tres.
24 These are the sons of Levi, in their kindred and families, leaders in turns, and the number of each of the heads who were doing the works of the ministry of the house of the Lord, from twenty years of age and upward.	24 Hi filii Levi in cognationibus et familiis suis, principes per vices, et numerum capitum singulorum qui faciebant opera ministerii domus Domini, a viginti annis et supra.
25 For David said: “The Lord, the God of Israel, has given rest to his people, and a habitation in Jerusalem even unto eternity.	25 Dixit enim David : Requiem dedit Dominus Deus Israël populo suo, et habitationem Jerusalem usque in æternum.
26 Neither shall it be the office of the Levites any more to carry the tabernacle with all its equipment for use in the ministry.”	26 Nec erit officii Levitarum ut ultra portent tabernaculum et omnia vasa ejus ad ministrandum.
27 Also, according to the last precepts of David, the sons of Levi shall be counted by number from twenty years of age and upward.	27 Juxta præcepta quoque David novissima, supputabitur numerus filiorum Levi a viginti annis et supra.
28 And they shall be under the hand of the sons of Aaron, in the care of the house of the Lord, in the vestibule, and in the chambers, and in the place of purification, and in the sanctuary, and in all the works of the ministry of the temple of the Lord.	28 Et erunt sub manu filiorum Aaron in cultum domus Domini, in vestibulis, et in exedris, et in loco purificationis, et in sanctuario, et in universis operibus ministerii templi Domini.
29 But the priests shall be over the bread of the presence, and the sacrifice of fine wheat flour, and the unleavened cakes, and the frying pan, and the roasting, and over every weight and measure.	29 Sacerdotes autem, super panes propositionis, et ad similæ sacrificium, et ad lagana azyma, et sartaginem, et ad torrendum, et super omne pondus atque mensuram.
30 Yet truly, the Levites shall stand to confess and to sing to the Lord, in the morning, and similarly in the evening,	30 Levitæ vero ut stent mane ad confitendum et canendum Domino : similiterque ad vesperam,
31 as much in the oblation of the holocausts of the Lord, as in the Sabbaths and new moons and other solemnities, according to the number and ceremonies for each and every matter, perpetually before the Lord.	31 tam in oblatione holocaustorum Domini, quam in sabbatis et calendis et solemnitatibus reliquis juxta numerum et cæremonias uniuscujusque rei, jugiter coram Domino.
32 And let them keep the observances of the tabernacle of the covenant, and the rituals of the sanctuary, and the observance of the sons of Aaron, their brothers, so that they may minister in the house of the Lord.	32 Et custodiant observationes tabernaculi fœderis, et ritum sanctuarii, et observationem filiorum Aaron fratrum suorum, ut ministrent in domo Domini.
