1 Chronicles 23

1 Then David, being old and full of days, appointed his son Solomon as king over Israel.	1 Devenu vieux et rassasié de jours, David donna à son fils Salomon la royauté sur Israël.
2 And he gathered together all the leaders of Israel, with the priests as well as the Levites.	2 Il réunit tous les officiers d'Israël, les prêtres et les lévites.
3 And the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years and upward. And there were found thirty-eight thousand men.	3 On recensa les lévites de 30 ans et plus. En les comptant tête par tête, on trouva 38.000hommes;
4 Of these, twenty-four thousand were chosen and distributed to the ministry of the house of the Lord. Then six thousand were overseers and judges.	4 24.000 d'entre eux présidaient aux offices de la maison de Yahvé, 6.000 étaient scribes etjuges,
5 Moreover, four thousand were porters. And the same number were the singers of psalms to the Lord, with the musical instruments which he had made for the music.	5 4.000 portiers, et 4.000 louaient Yahvé, avec les instruments que David avait faits à cetteintention.
6 And David distributed them into courses according to the sons of Levi, specifically, Gershom, and Kohath, and Merari.	6 Puis David répartit les lévites en classes: Gershôn, Qehat et Merari.
7 The sons of Gershom: Ladan and Shimei.	7 Pour les Gershonites: Ladân et Shiméï.
8 The sons of Ladan: the leader Jahiel, and Zetham, and Joel, three.	8 Fils de Ladân: Yehiel, le premier, Zétam, Yoël, trois en tout.
9 The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the leaders of the families of Ladan.	9 Fils de Shiméï: Shelomit, Haziel, Harân, trois en tout. Ce sont les chefs de famille de Ladân.
10 Then the sons of Shimei: Jahath, and Zizah, and Jeush, and Beriah. These were the sons of Shimei, four.	10 Fils de Shiméï: Yahat, Zina, Yéush, Béria; ce furent là les fils de Shiméï, quatre en tout.
11 Now Jahath was first, Zizah second, but Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons, and for this reason they were reckoned as one family and one house.	11 Yahat était l'aîné, Ziza le second, puis Yéush et Béria qui n'eurent pas beaucoup d'enfants etfurent enregistrés en une seule famille.
12 The sons of Kohath: Amram and Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel, four.	12 Fils de Qehat: Amram, Yiçhar, Hébrôn, Uzziel, quatre en tout.
13 The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. Now Aaron was separated so that he might minister in the Holy of Holies, he and his sons forever, and so that he might burn incense to the Lord, according to his rite, and so that he might bless his name in perpetuity.	13 Fils de Amram: Aaron et Moïse. Aaron fut mis à part pour consacrer les choses très saintes,lui et ses fils à jamais, faire fumer l'encens devant Yahvé, le servir et bénir en son nom à jamais.
14 The sons of Moses, the man of God, were also numbered in the tribe of Levi.	14 Moïse fut un homme de Dieu dont les fils reçurent le nom de la tribu de Lévi.
15 The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer.	15 Fils de Moïse: Gershom et Eliézer.
16 The sons of Gershom: Shebuel the first.	16 Fils de Gershom: Shebuel, le premier.
17 Now the sons of Eliezer were Rehabiah the first. And there were no other sons for Eliezer. But the sons of Rehabiah were multiplied exceedingly.	17 Il y eut des fils d'Eliézer: Rehabya, le premier. Eliézer n'eut pas d'autres fils, mais les fils deRehabya furent extrêmement nombreux.
18 The sons of Izhar: Shelomith the first.	18 Fils de Yiçhar: Shelomit le premier.
19 The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, Jekameam the fourth.	19 Fils de Hébrôn: Yeriyyahu le premier, Amarya le second, Yahaziel le troisième, Yeqaméamle quatrième.
20 The sons of Uzziel: Micah the first, Isshiah the second.	20 Fils d'Uzziel: Mika le premier, Yishshiyya le second.
21 The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish.	21 Fils de Merari: Mahli et Mushi. Fils de Mahli: Eléazar et Qish.
22 Then Eleazar died, and had no sons, but only daughters. And so the sons of Kish, their brothers, married them.	22 Eléazar mourut sans avoir de fils, mais des filles qu'enlevèrent les fils de Qish leurs frères.
23 The sons of Mushi: Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three.	23 Fils de Mushi: Mahli, Eder, Yerémot, trois en tout.
24 These are the sons of Levi, in their kindred and families, leaders in turns, and the number of each of the heads who were doing the works of the ministry of the house of the Lord, from twenty years of age and upward.	24 Tels étaient les fils de Lévi par familles, les chefs de maison et ceux qu'on recensaitnominativement, tête par tête; quiconque était âgé de vingt ans et plus était affecté au service de la maison deYahvé.
25 For David said: “The Lord, the God of Israel, has given rest to his people, and a habitation in Jerusalem even unto eternity.	25 Car David avait dit: "Yahvé, Dieu d'Israël, a donné le repos à son peuple et il demeure pourtoujours à Jérusalem.
26 Neither shall it be the office of the Levites any more to carry the tabernacle with all its equipment for use in the ministry.”	26 Les lévites n'auront plus à transporter la Demeure et les objets destinés à son service."
27 Also, according to the last precepts of David, the sons of Levi shall be counted by number from twenty years of age and upward.	27 En effet, selon les dernières paroles de David, les lévites qui furent comptés étaient âgés devingt ans et plus.
28 And they shall be under the hand of the sons of Aaron, in the care of the house of the Lord, in the vestibule, and in the chambers, and in the place of purification, and in the sanctuary, and in all the works of the ministry of the temple of the Lord.	28 Ils sont chargés de se tenir sous les ordres des fils d'Aaron pour le service du Temple deYahvé dans les parvis et les salles, pour la purification de chaque chose consacrée; ils font le service du Templede Dieu.
29 But the priests shall be over the bread of the presence, and the sacrifice of fine wheat flour, and the unleavened cakes, and the frying pan, and the roasting, and over every weight and measure.	29 Ils sont aussi chargés du pain à disposer en rangées, de la fleur de farine destinée àl'oblation, des galettes sans levain, de celles qui étaient préparées à la plaque ou sous forme de mélange, et detoutes les mesures de capacité et de longueur.
30 Yet truly, the Levites shall stand to confess and to sing to the Lord, in the morning, and similarly in the evening,	30 Ils ont à s'y tenir chaque matin pour célébrer et pour louer Yahvé, et de même le soir,
31 as much in the oblation of the holocausts of the Lord, as in the Sabbaths and new moons and other solemnities, according to the number and ceremonies for each and every matter, perpetually before the Lord.	31 ainsi que pour toute offrande d'holocaustes à Yahvé lors des sabbats, des néoménies et dessolennités, selon le nombre fixé par la règle. Cette charge leur incombe en permanence devant Yahvé.
32 And let them keep the observances of the tabernacle of the covenant, and the rituals of the sanctuary, and the observance of the sons of Aaron, their brothers, so that they may minister in the house of the Lord.	32 Ils observent, au service du Temple de Yahvé, le rituel de la Tente du Rendez-vous, le ritueldu sanctuaire et le rituel des fils d'Aaron, leurs frères.
