Now after these things, it happened that David struck the Philistines, and he humbled them, and he took Gath and her daughters from the hand of the Philistines.1 E dopo questo fu fatto, che David percosse i Filistei, e umiliogli e tolse (gli) Get e le sue figliuole delle mani de' Filistei.
And he struck Moab. And the Moabites became the servants of David, offering gifts to him.2 E percosse Moab, e furono fatti gli Moabiti servi di David, e suoi tributarii.
In that time, David also struck Hadadezer, the king of Zobah, in the region of Hamath, when he went forth so that he might extend his dominion as far as the river Euphrates.3 E in quello tempo percosse David anco Adarezer, re di Soba della regione di Emat, quando egli andò per dilatare il suo reame insino al fiume Eufrate.
Then David seized one thousand of his four-horse chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand men on foot. And he hamstrung all the chariot horses, except for one hundred four-horse chariots, which he reserved for himself.4 E prese David mille delle sue quadrighe, e settemilia cavalieri, e XX milia uomini pedoni; e tagliò i nerbi a tutti i cavalli delle carra, fuori che cento quadrighe, le quali riservò a sè.
Then the Syrians of Damascus also arrived, so that they might offer assistance to Hadadezer, the king of Zobah. And so, David then struck of them twenty-two thousand men.5 E sopravenne il Siro di Damasco per dare aiuto ad Adarezer re di Soba; e di quelli di costui percosse David XX [due] milia uomini.
And he stationed soldiers in Damascus, so that Syria also would serve him, and would offer gifts. And the Lord assisted him in all the things to which he went forth.6 E puose cavalieri in Damasco, acciò che Siria anche servisse a lui, e offerisse doni. E aiutollo il Signore in tutte le cose alle quali egli andava.
Also, David took the golden quivers, which the servants of Hadadezer had, and he brought them to Jerusalem.7 E tolse David le faretre dell' oro, le quali aveano i servi di Adarezer, e portolle in Ierusalem;
In addition, from Tibhath and Cun, cities of Hadadezer, he brought very much brass, from which Solomon made the sea of brass, and the pillars, and the vessels of brass.8 e anco di Tebat e Cun, città di Adarezer molto metallo, del quale Salomone fece il mare di metallo, e le colonne e le vasa del metallo.
Now when Toi, the king of Hamath, had heard this, specifically that David had struck the entire army of Hadadezer, the king of Zobah,9 La quale cosa udita, Tou re di Emat, che David avea percosso tutto lo esercito di Adarezer re di Soba,
he sent his son Hadoram to king David so that he might petition peace from him, and so that he might congratulate him that he had struck and defeated Hadadezer. For indeed, Toi was an adversary to Hadadezer.10 mandò Adoram suo figliuolo al re David, per domandargli pace, e per rallegrarsi con esso lui, ch' egli avea isconfitto Adarezer; però che Tou era nemico di Adarezer.
Moreover, all the vessels of gold and silver and brass king David consecrated to the Lord, with the silver and gold that he had taken from all the nations, as much from Idumea, and Moab, and the sons of Ammon, as from the Philistines and Amalek.11 E tutte le vasa dell' oro e dell' ariento e del metallo consecrò David re al Signore, con l'oro e con l'ariento il quale avea portato (il re) di tutte le genti, così di Idumea e Moab, e de' figliuoli di Ammon, come de' Filistei e di Amalec.
Truly, Abishai, the son of Zeruiah, struck eighteen thousand of the Edomites in the Valley of the Salt Pits.12 E Abisai figliuolo di Sarvia percosse Edom nella valle [delle] Saline, XVIII milia.
And he stationed a garrison in Edom, so that Idumea would serve David. And the Lord saved David in all the things to which he went forth.13 E fece in Edom fortezza, acciò che Idumea servisse a David; e salvò il Signore David in tutte le cose alle quali egli andò.
Therefore, David reigned over all of Israel, and he executed judgment and justice among all his people.14 E regnò David in tutte le parti d' Israel, e facea giudicio e giustizia a tutto il popolo.
Now Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was over the army, and Jehoshaphat, the son of Ahilud, was the keeper of records.15 E Ioab figliuolo di Sarvia era sopra lo esercito, e Iosafat figliuolo di Ailud era degli scrittori delle croniche.
And Zadok, the son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech, the son of Abiathar, were the priests. And Shavsha was the scribe.16 E Sadoc figliuolo di Achitob, e Aimelec figliuolo di Abiatar, sacerdoti; e Susa scrivano.
Also, Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, was over the legions of the Cherethites and Pelethites. But the sons of David were first at the hand of the king.17 Ma Banaia figliuolo di Ioiada era sopra le compagnie di Cereti e Feleti, (le quali erano alla guardia della persona di David); e' figliuoli di David erano primi alle mani del re.
