CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINEL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
Now after these things, it happened that David struck the Philistines, and he humbled them, and he took Gath and her daughters from the hand of the Philistines.1 Después de esto, David derrotó a los filisteos y los sometió, despojándolos de Gat y sus poblados.
And he struck Moab. And the Moabites became the servants of David, offering gifts to him.2 También derrotó a los moabitas, y estos pasaron a ser vasallos de David, sometidos a tributo.
In that time, David also struck Hadadezer, the king of Zobah, in the region of Hamath, when he went forth so that he might extend his dominion as far as the river Euphrates.3 David derrotó a Hadadézer, rey de Sobá, cuando este iba establecer su dominio sobre el río Eufrates.
Then David seized one thousand of his four-horse chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand men on foot. And he hamstrung all the chariot horses, except for one hundred four-horse chariots, which he reserved for himself.4 Capturó mil carros, siete mil soldados de caballería y veinte mil hombres de a pie, y mutiló todos los caballos de los carros de guerra, reservándose sólo cien.
Then the Syrians of Damascus also arrived, so that they might offer assistance to Hadadezer, the king of Zobah. And so, David then struck of them twenty-two thousand men.5 Los arameos de Damasco acudieron en auxilio de Hadadézer, pero David derrotó a veintidós mil de esos arameos.
And he stationed soldiers in Damascus, so that Syria also would serve him, and would offer gifts. And the Lord assisted him in all the things to which he went forth.6 Luego puso gobernadores en Aram de Damasco, y los arameos pasaron a ser vasallos de David, sometidos a tributo. El Señor daba la victoria a David en todas sus campañas.
Also, David took the golden quivers, which the servants of Hadadezer had, and he brought them to Jerusalem.7 David se apoderó de los escudos de oro que llevaban los oficiales de Hadadézer, y se los llevó a Jerusalén.
In addition, from Tibhath and Cun, cities of Hadadezer, he brought very much brass, from which Solomon made the sea of brass, and the pillars, and the vessels of brass.8 De Tibjat y de Cun, ciudades de Hadadézer, David trajo una enorme cantidad de bronce, con el que Salomón hizo el Mar de bronce, las columnas y los utensilios de bronce.
Now when Toi, the king of Hamath, had heard this, specifically that David had struck the entire army of Hadadezer, the king of Zobah,9 Cuando Tou, rey de Jamat, oyó que David había derrotado a todo el ejército de Hadadézer, rey de Sobá,
he sent his son Hadoram to king David so that he might petition peace from him, and so that he might congratulate him that he had struck and defeated Hadadezer.
Moreover, all the vessels of gold and silver and brass king David consecrated to the Lord, with the silver and gold that he had taken from all the nations, as much from Idumea, and Moab, and the sons of Ammon, as from the Philistines and Amalek.11 y David consagró también esos objetos, como lo había hecho con la plata y el oro que había traído de todas las naciones: de Edom, de Moab, de los amonitas, de los filisteos y de Amalec.
Truly, Abishai, the son of Zeruiah, struck eighteen thousand of the Edomites in the Valley of the Salt Pits.12 Abisai, hijo de Seruiá, derrotó a dieciocho mil edomitas en el valle de la Sal.
And he stationed a garrison in Edom, so that Idumea would serve David. And the Lord saved David in all the things to which he went forth.13 Luego puso gobernadores en Edom y todos los edomitas pasaron a ser vasallos de David. El Señor daba la victoria a David en todas sus campañas.
Therefore, David reigned over all of Israel, and he executed judgment and justice among all his people.14 David reinó sobre todo Israel, y administraba el derecho y la justicia a todo su pueblo.
Now Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was over the army, and Jehoshaphat, the son of Ahilud, was the keeper of records.15 Joab, hijo de Seruiá, era el comandante del ejército; Josafat, hijo de Ajilud, el heraldo;
And Zadok, the son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech, the son of Abiathar, were the priests. And Shavsha was the scribe.16 Sadoc, hijo de Ajitub, y Ajimélec, hijo de Abiatar, eran sacerdotes; Sausá, el secretario;
Also, Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, was over the legions of the Cherethites and Pelethites. But the sons of David were first at the hand of the king.17 Benaías, hijo de Iehoiadá, comandaba a los queretos y peleteos; y los hijos de David eran los principales al lado del rey.
