Then the word of the Lord came to Jehu, the son of Hanani, against Baasha, saying:1 La parole de Yahvé fut adressée à Jéhu, fils de Hanani, contre Basha, en ces termes:
“Even though I exalted you from the dust, and I set you as ruler over my people Israel, still you have walked in the way of Jeroboam, and you have caused my people Israel to sin, so that you have provoked me by their sins.2 "Je t'ai tiré de la poussière et je t'ai établi chef sur mon peuple Israël, mais tu as imité la conduite deJéroboam et tu as fait commettre à mon peuple Israël des péchés qui m'irritent.
Behold, I will cut down the posterity of Baasha, and the posterity of his house. And I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat.3 Aussi vais-je balayer Basha et sa maison: je rendrai ta maison pareille à celle de Jéroboam fils deNebat.
Whoever will have died of Baasha in the city, the dogs will consume him. And whoever will have died of him in the countryside, the birds of the air will consume him.”4 Celui de la famille de Basha qui mourra dans la ville, les chiens le mangeront, et celui qui mourradans la campagne, les oiseaux du ciel le mangeront."
Now the rest of the words of Baasha, and whatever he did, and his battles, were these not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?5 Le reste de l'histoire de Basha, ce qu'il a fait et ses exploits, cela n'est-il pas écrit au livre desAnnales des rois d'Israël?
Then Baasha slept with his fathers, and he was buried at Tirzah. And Elah, his son, reigned in his place.6 Basha se coucha avec ses pères et on l'enterra à Tirça. Son fils Ela régna à sa place.
And when the word of the Lord had arrived by the hand of the prophet Jehu, the son of Hanani, against Baasha, and against his house, and against every evil that he had done before the Lord, so that he provoked him by the works of his hands, so that he became like the house of Jeroboam: for this reason, he killed him, that is, the prophet Jehu, the son of Hanani.7 De plus, par le ministère du prophète Jéhu fils de Hanani, la parole de Yahvé fut transmise à Bashaet à sa maison, d'une part à cause de tout le mal qu'il fit au regard de Yahvé, en l'irritant par ses oeuvres, pourdevenir comme la maison de Jéroboam, d'autre part, parce qu'il extermina celle-ci.
In the twenty-sixth year of Asa, the king of Judah, Elah, the son of Baasha, reigned over Israel, at Tirzah, for two years.8 La vingt-sixième année d'Asa, roi de Juda, Ela fils de Basha devint roi sur Israël à Tirça, pour deuxans.
And his servant Zimri, the commander of one half part the horsemen, rebelled against him. Now Elah was drinking at Tirzah, and he became inebriated in the house of Arza, the prefect of Tirzah.9 Son officier Zimri, chef de la moitié des chars, conspira contre lui. Comme il était dans Tirça,buvant à s'enivrer dans la maison d'Arça, maître du palais à Tirça,
Then Zimri, rushing in, struck him and killed him, in the twenty-seventh year of Asa, the king of Judah. And he reigned in his place.10 Zimri entra, le frappa et le tua, en la vingt-septième année d'Asa roi de Juda, puis il régna à saplace.
And when he had reigned and had sat upon his throne, he struck down the entire house of Baasha. And he did not leave behind of them anything that urinates against a wall, among both close relatives and his friends.11 A son avènement, dès qu'il fut assis sur le trône, il massacra toute la famille de Basha, sans luilaisser aucun mâle, et aussi ses parents et son familier.
And so, Zimri destroyed the entire house of Baasha, in accord with the word of the Lord, which he had spoken to Baasha, by the hand the prophet of Jehu,12 Zimri extermina toute la maison de Basha, selon la parole que Yahvé avait prononcée contreBasha, par le ministère du prophète Jéhu,
because of all the sins of Baasha, and the sins of Elah, his son, who sinned and caused Israel to sin, provoking the Lord, the God of Israel, with their vanities.13 pour tous les péchés de Basha et ceux d'Ela, son fils, où ils avaient entraîné Israël, irritant Yahvé,Dieu d'Israël, par leurs vaines idoles.
But the rest of the words of Elah, and all that he did, were these not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?14 Le reste de l'histoire d'Ela, et tout ce qu'il a fait, cela n'est-il pas écrit au livre des Annales des roisd'Israël?
In the twenty-seventh year of Asa, the king of Judah, Zimri reigned for seven days in Tirzah. For the army was besieging Gibbethon, a city of the Philistines.15 La vingt-septième année d'Asa, roi de Juda, Zimri devint roi, pour sept jours, à Tirça. Le peuplecampait alors devant Gibbetôn qui appartient aux Philistins.
And when they had heard that Zimri had rebelled, and that he had killed the king, all of Israel made Omri as a king for themselves; he was the leader of the military over Israel in the encampment in that day.16 Lorsque le bivouac reçut cette nouvelle: "Zimri a conspiré, il a même tué le roi!" tout Israël, le jourmême, dans le camp, proclama roi sur Israël Omri, le chef de l'armée.
Therefore, Omri ascended, and all of Israel with him, from Gibbethon, and they besieged Tirzah.17 Omri et tout Israël avec lui levèrent le siège de Gibbetôn et vinrent bloquer Tirça.
Then Zimri, seeing that the city was about to be taken, entered the palace, and he set fire to himself along with the royal house. And he died18 Quand Zimri vit que la ville était prise, il entra dans le donjon du palais royal, brûla sur lui lepalais et périt.
in his sins, which he had sinned, doing evil before the Lord, and walking in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin, by which he caused Israel to sin.19 Ce fut pour le péché qu'il commit en faisant ce qui déplaît à Yahvé, en imitant la conduite deJéroboam et le péché où il avait entraîné Israël.
But the rest of the words of Zimri, and of his treachery and tyranny, were these not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?20 Le reste de l'histoire de Zimri et la conspiration qu'il ourdit, cela n'est-il pas écrit au livre desAnnales des rois d'Israël?
Then the people of Israel were divided into two parts: one half part of the people followed Tibni, the son of Ginath, having appointed him as king, and one half part followed Omri.21 Alors le peuple d'Israël se divisa: une moitié se rallia à Tibni fils de Ginat, pour le faire roi, l'autremoitié à Omri.
But the people who were with Omri prevailed over the people who were following Tibni, the son of Ginath. And Tibni died, and Omri reigned.22 Mais le parti d'Omri l'emporta sur celui de Tibni fils de Ginat; Tibni mourut et Omri devint roi.
In the thirty-first year of Asa, the king of Judah, Omri reigned over Israel for twelve years; he reigned for six years at Tirzah.23 La trente et unième année d'Asa, roi de Juda, Omri devint roi sur Israël, pour douze ans. Il régnasix années à Tirça.
And he bought the mount of Samaria from Shemer for two talents of silver. And he built upon it, and he called the name of the city that he had built, Samaria, after the name of Shemer, the owner of the mount.24 Puis il acquit de Shémer le mont Samarie pour deux talents d'argent; il y construisit une ville que,d'après le nom de Shémer, possesseur de la montagne, il nomma Samarie.
But Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord, and he wrought wickedness, beyond all who had been before him.25 Omri fit ce qui déplaît à Yahvé et fut pire que tous ses devanciers.
And he walked in all the ways of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, and in his sins, by which he had caused Israel to sin, so that he provoked the Lord, the God of Israel, by their vanities.26 Il imita en tout la conduite de Jéroboam fils de Nebat et les péchés où il avait entraîné Israël,irritant Yahvé, Dieu d'Israël, par leurs vaines idoles.
Now the rest of the words of Omri, and his battles that he carried out, were these not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?27 Le reste de l'histoire d'Omri, ce qu'il a fait et ses exploits, cela n'est-il pas écrit au livre des Annalesdes rois d'Israël?
And Omri slept with his fathers, and he was buried in Samaria. And Ahab, his son, reigned in his place.28 Omri se coucha avec ses pères et on l'enterra à Samarie. Son fils Achab régna à sa place.
Truly, Ahab, the son of Omri, reigned over Israel in the thirty-eighth year of Asa, the king of Judah. And Ahab, the son of Omri, reigned over Israel at Samaria for twenty-two years.29 Achab fils d'Omri devint roi sur Israël en la trente-huitième année d'Asa, roi de Juda, et il régna 22ans sur Israël à Samarie.
And Ahab, the son of Omri, did evil in the sight of the Lord, beyond all who had been before him.30 Achab fils d'Omri fit ce qui déplaît à Yahvé et fut pire que tous ses devanciers.
And it was not enough for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat. In addition, he took as a wife Jezebel, the daughter of Eth-baal, the king of the Sidonians. And he went astray, and he served Baal, and adored him.31 La moindre chose fut qu'il imita les péchés de Jéroboam fils de Nebat: il prit pour femme Jézabel,fille d'Ittobaal, roi des Sidoniens, et se mit à servir Baal et à se prosterner devant lui;
And he set up an altar for Baal, in the temple of Baal, which he had built at Samaria.32 il lui dressa un autel dans le temple de Baal qu'il construisit à Samarie.
And he planted a sacred grove. And Ahab added to his works, provoking the Lord, the God of Israel, beyond all the kings of Israel who had been before him.33 Achab installa aussi le pieu sacré et fit encore d'autres offenses, irritant Yahvé, Dieu d'Israël, plusque tous les rois d'Israël qui avaient été avant lui.
In his days, Hiel from Bethel built up Jericho. With Abiram, his firstborn, he founded it, and with Segub, his youngest son, he set up its gates, in accord with the word of the Lord, which he had spoken by the hand of Joshua, the son of Nun.34 De son temps, Hiel de Béthel rebâtit Jéricho; au prix de son premier-né Abiram il en établit lefondement et au prix de son dernier-né Segub il en posa les portes, selon la parole que Yahvé avait dite par leministère de Josué, fils de Nûn.
