1 The men of Ephraim gathered together and crossed over to Zaphon. They said to Jephthah, "Why do you go on to fight with the Ammonites without calling us to go with you? We will burn your house over you."	1 Die Männer aus Efraim wurden (zum Kampf) aufgeboten; sie zogen nach Zafon und sagten zu Jiftach: Warum bist du gegen die Ammoniter in den Kampf gezogen und hast uns nicht aufgefordert, mit dir zu ziehen? Wir werden dir dein Haus über dem Kopf anzünden.
2 Jephthah answered them, "My soldiers and I were engaged in a critical contest with the Ammonites. I summoned you, but you did not rescue me from their power.	2 Jiftach sagte zu ihnen: Ich selbst und mein Volk lagen mit den Ammonitern in heftigem Streit. Ich habe euch gerufen, aber ihr habt mich nicht aus ihrer Gewalt befreit.
3 When I saw that you would not effect a rescue, I took my life in my own hand and went on to the Ammonites, and the LORD delivered them into my power. Why, then, do you come up against me this day to fight with me?"	3 Als ich nun sah, dass ihr mir nicht helfen wolltet, setzte ich mein Leben aufs Spiel und zog gegen die Ammoniter und der Herr gab sie in meine Gewalt. Warum seid ihr nun heute zu mir heraufgekommen, um Krieg mit mir anzufangen?
4 Then Jephthah called together all the men of Gilead and fought against Ephraim, whom they defeated; for the Ephraimites had said, "You of Gilead are Ephraimite fugitives in territory belonging to Ephraim and Manasseh."	4 Darauf sammelte Jiftach alle Männer aus Gilead und kämpfte gegen Efraim und die Männer aus Gilead schlugen Efraim. Die Efraimiter hatten gesagt: Ihr seid Flüchtlinge aus Efraim; Gilead liegt ja mitten in Efraim, mitten in Manasse.
5 The Gileadites took the fords of the Jordan toward Ephraim. When any of the fleeing Ephraimites said, "Let me pass," the men of Gilead would say to him, "Are you an Ephraimite?" If he answered, "No!"	5 Gilead besetzte die nach Efraim führenden Übergänge über den Jordan. Und wenn efraimitische Flüchtlinge (kamen und) sagten: Ich möchte hinüber!, fragten ihn die Männer aus Gilead: Bist du ein Efraimiter? Wenn er Nein sagte,
6 they would ask him to say "Shibboleth." If he said "Sibboleth," not being able to give the proper pronunciation, they would seize him and kill him at the fords of the Jordan. Thus forty-two thousand Ephraimites fell at that time.	6 forderten sie ihn auf: Sag doch einmal «Schibbolet». 7 After having judged Israel for six years, Jephthah the Gileadite died and was buried in his city in Gilead.	7 Jiftach war sechs Jahre lang Richter in Israel. Dann starb Jiftach, der Gileaditer, und wurde in seiner Stadt in Gilead begraben.
8 After him Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel.	8 Nach ihm war Ibzan aus Betlehem Richter in Israel.
9 He had thirty sons. He also had thirty daughters married outside the family, and he brought in as wives for his sons thirty young women from outside the family. After having judged Israel for seven years,	9 Er hatte dreißig Söhne; dreißig Töchter gab er nach auswärts (in die Ehe) und dreißig Töchter führte er seinen Söhnen von auswärts zu. Ibzan war sieben Jahre lang Richter in Israel.
10 Ibzan died and was buried in Bethlehem.	10 Dann starb er und wurde in Betlehem begraben.
11 After him the Zebulunite Elon judged Israel. When he had judged Israel for ten years,	11 Nach ihm war Elon, der Sebuloniter, Richter in Israel; er war zehn Jahre lang Richter in Israel.
12 the Zebulunite Elon died and was buried in Elon in the land of Zebulun.	12 Dann starb der Sebuloniter Elon und wurde in Ajalon im Land Sebulon begraben.
13 After him the Pirathonite Abdon, son of Hillel, judged Israel.	13 Nach ihm war Abdon, der Sohn Hillels aus Piraton, Richter in Israel.
14 He had forty sons and thirty grandsons who rode on seventy saddle-asses. After having judged Israel for eight years,	14 Er hatte vierzig Söhne und dreißig Enkel, die auf siebzig Eseln ritten. Er war acht Jahre lang Richter in Israel.
