Jeremiah 25

1 The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim, son of Josiah, king of Judah (the first year of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon).	1 Voici la parole qui fut adressée à Jérémie en la quatrième année de Joïaqim fils de Josias, roi de Juda; on était dans la première année de Nabukodonozor roi de Babylone.
2 This word the prophet Jeremiah spoke to all the people of Judah and all the citizens of Jerusalem:	2 Le prophète Jérémie prononça ces paroles devant le peuple de Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem.
3 Since the thirteenth year of Josiah, son of Amon, king of Judah, to this day-these three and twenty years-the word of the LORD has come to me and I spoke to you untiringly, but you would not listen.	3 Depuis la treizième année de Josias fils d’Amon, roi de Juda, et jusqu’à ce jour, soit pendant 23 ans, la parole de Yahvé m’a été adressée; je vous l’ai dite sans me lasser, mais vous n’avez pas écouté.
4 Though you refused to listen or pay heed, the LORD has sent you without fail all his servants the prophets	4 (Yahvé aussi, sans se lasser, vous a envoyé ses serviteurs les prophètes, mais vous n’avez pas écouté, vous n’avez pas prêté l’oreille pour entendre.)
5 with this message: Turn back, each of you, from your evil way and from your evil deeds; then you shall remain in the land which the LORD gave you and your fathers, from of old and forever.	5 Voici ce qu’était cette parole: “Que chacun revienne de sa mauvaise conduite et de ses actions mauvaises; alors vous habiterez sur la terre que Yahvé vous a donnée, à vous et à vos pères, depuis toujours et pour toujours.
6 Do not follow strange gods to serve and adore them, lest you provoke me with your handiwork, and I bring evil upon you.	6 Mais ne suivez pas d’autres dieux, ne les servez pas, ne vous prosternez pas devant eux; ne me mettez pas en colère avec ces choses qui sont sorties de vos mains, et moi, je ne vous ferai pas de mal.
7 But you would not listen to me, says the LORD, and so you provoked me with your handiwork to your own harm.	7 Mais vous ne m’avez pas écouté - parole de Yahvé. Vous m’avez irrité pour votre malheur avec ces choses sorties de vos mains.
8 Hence, thus says the LORD of hosts: Since you would not listen to my words,	8 C’est pourquoi, voici ce qu’a dit Yahvé Sabaot: Parce que vous n’avez pas écouté mes paroles,
9 lo! I will send for and fetch all the tribes of the north, says the LORD (and I will send to Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, my servant); I will bring them against this land, against its inhabitants, and against all these neighboring nations. I will doom them, making them an object of horror, of ridicule, of everlasting reproach.	9 j’envoie chercher un peuple du nord. Je le fais venir contre ce pays et ses habitants, et je leur jette la malédiction, et pour toujours ce sera la désolation, ce seront des ruines, juste de quoi se moquer.
10 Among them I will bring to an end the song of joy and the song of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstone and the light of the lamp.	10 Je ferai disparaître de chez eux le bruit des fêtes et de la joie, la voix de l’époux et de l’épouse, le bruit de la meule et la lumière de la lampe.
11 This whole land shall be a ruin and a desert. Seventy years these nations shall be enslaved to the king of Babylon;	11 Tout ce pays ne sera plus que ruines et désolation, et ils seront esclaves parmi les nations pour 70 ans.
12 but when the seventy years have elapsed, I will punish the king of Babylon and the nation and the land of the Chaldeans for their guilt, says the LORD. Their land I will turn into everlasting desert.	12 Mais quand s’achèveront ces 70 années, je demanderai des comptes à la nation des Kaldéens et j’en ferai une ruine éternelle.
13 Against that land I will fulfill all the words I have spoken against it (all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah prophesied against all the nations).	13 Ainsi j’accomplirai contre ce pays toutes les paroles que j’ai prononcées contre lui, tout ce qui est écrit dans ce livre, tout ce que Jérémie a prophétisé sur toutes les nations.
14 They also shall be enslaved to great nations and mighty kings, and thus I will repay them according to their own deeds and according to their own handiwork.	14 Car de grandes nations, avec de grands rois, les soumettront à leur tour, et je leur rendrai selon leurs actes, selon l’œuvre de leurs mains.
15 For thus said the LORD, the God of Israel, to me: Take this cup of foaming wine from my hand, and have all the nations to whom I will send you drink it.	15 Voici ce que Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël, me dit: Reçois de ma main cette coupe de vin, cette coupe de ma colère, et fais-la boire à toutes les nations vers lesquelles je t’enverrai.
16 They shall drink, and be convulsed, and go mad, because of the sword I will send among them.	16 Quand elles auront bu, elles trébucheront et seront prises de vertige ( ).
17 I took the cup from the hand of the LORD and gave drink to all the nations to which the LORD sent me:	17 Alors je pris la coupe de la main de Yahvé et je la fis boire à toutes les nations vers lesquelles Yahvé m’envoyait:
18 (Jerusalem, the cities of Judah, her kings and her princes, to make them a ruin and a desert, an object of ridicule and cursing, as they are today;)	18 (à Jérusalem et aux villes de Juda, comme à ses rois et à ses chefs, pour qu’elles deviennent une solitude, une ruine, un objet de moquerie).
19 Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and his servants, his princes, all the people under him, native	19 Je la fis boire à Pharaon, roi d’Égypte, à ses serviteurs, à ses chefs et à tout son peuple,
20 and foreign; all the kings of the land of Uz; all the kings of the land of the Philistines: Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod;	20 et à tous les gens de l’ouest. Puis je la passai ( ) aux rois du pays des Philistins, Ashkélon, Gaza, Ékron, et ce qui reste encore d’Ashdod.
21 Edom, Moab, and the Ammonites;	21 Puis à Édom, Moab et les fils d’Ammon,
22 all the kings of Tyre, of Sidon, and of the shores beyond the sea;	22 les rois de Tyr, les rois de Sidon, les rois des îles qui sont au-delà de la mer,
23 Dedan and Tema and Buz, all the desert dwellers who shave their temples;	23 Dédan, Téma, Bouz, tous les hommes aux tempes rasées,
24 (all the kings of Arabia;)	24 ( ) qui habitent le désert.
25 all the kings of Zimri, of Elam, of the Medes;	25 Puis je la fis boire aux rois de Zimri, les rois d’Élam et de Médie,
26 all the kings of the north, near and far, one after the other; all the kingdoms upon the face of the earth (and after them the king of Sheshach shall drink).	26 les rois du nord, proches ou lointains, l’un après l’autre, et tous les royaumes de la terre ( ).
27 Tell them: Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Drink! become drunk and vomit; fall, never to rise, before the sword that I will send among you!	27 Tu leur diras: “Voici ce que dit Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d’Israël: Buvez, enivrez-vous, vomissez, tombez et ne vous relevez plus quand vous verrez l’épée que j’envoie contre vous.”
28 If they refuse to take the cup from your hand and drink, say to them: Thus says the LORD of hosts: You must drink!	28 Et s’ils refusent de prendre de ta main cette coupe à boire, tu leur diras: C’est un ordre de Yahvé Sabaot: vous devez boire!
29 For since with this city, which is called by my name, I begin to inflict evil, how can you possibly be spared? You shall not be spared! I will call down the sword upon all who inhabit the earth, says the LORD of hosts.	29 Si j’ai fait venir le malheur d’abord sur la ville que protège mon Nom, croyez-vous que vous, vous serez épargnés? Certainement pas, vous ne serez pas épargnés, car moi-même j’appelle l’épée contre tous les habitants de la terre.
30 Prophesy against them all these things and say to them: The LORD roars from on high, from his holy dwelling he raises his voice; Mightily he roars over the range, a shout like that of vintagers over the grapes.	30 Tu leur annonceras toutes ces paroles et tu leur diras: Yahvé a rugi, du haut de sa sainte Demeure il fait entendre sa voix. Il pousse un rugissement contre son héritage et contre tous les habitants de la terre. Il pousse des cris comme ceux qui piétinent le raisin,
31 To all who inhabit the earth to its very ends the uproar spreads; For the LORD has an indictment against the nations, he is to pass judgment upon all mankind: The godless shall be given to the sword, says the LORD.	31 le bruit en est arrivé jusqu’aux extrémités de la terre. Yahvé est en procès avec les nations, il entre en jugement avec tout homme, il livre les méchants à l’épée - parole de Yahvé.
32 Thus says the LORD of hosts: Lo! calamity stalks from nation to nation; A great storm is unleashed from the ends of the earth.	32 Voici ce que dit Yahvé Sabaot: Regardez, le malheur gagne de nation en nation, un ouragan terrible s’est levé, qui nous vient des extrémités de la terre.
33 On that day, those whom the LORD has slain will be strewn from one end of the earth to the other. None will mourn them, none will gather them for burial; they shall lie like dung on the field.	33 Les victimes de Yahvé tomberont ce jour-là, d’un bout à l’autre de la terre; on ne les ramassera pas, on ne les enterrera pas; elles resteront comme du fumier sur le sol.
34 Howl, you shepherds, and wail! roll in the dust, leaders of the flock! The time for your slaughter has come; like choice rams you shall fall.	34 Pasteurs, lamentez-vous et criez! Roulez-vous par terre, maîtres du troupeau! Car c’est votre tour d’aller à la boucherie et de tomber comme les bêtes les plus belles.
35 There is no flight for the shepherds, no escape for the leaders of the flock.	35 Il n’y a pas d’échappatoire pour les pasteurs, pas de fuite possible pour les maîtres du troupeau.
36 Listen! Wailing from the shepherds, howling by the leaders of the flock! For the LORD lays waste their grazing place,	36 Les pasteurs poussent des cris, les maîtres du troupeau se lamentent, car Yahvé a ravagé leurs prairies
37 desolate lie the peaceful pastures;	37 et le silence est tombé sur les paisibles pâturages.
38 The lion leaves his lair, and their land is made desolate By the sweeping sword, by the burning wrath of the LORD.	38 Le lion est sorti de son repaire et leur pays n’est plus que ruines sous le feu du châtiment.
