Isaiah 33

1 Woe, O destroyer never destroyed, O traitor never betrayed! When you finish destroying, you will be destroyed; when wearied with betraying, you will be betrayed.	1 Guai a te, devastatore, che non sei stato devastato, rapinatore, che non sei stato rapinato! Quando avrai finito di devastare, sarai devastato; quando avrai terminato di rapinare, sarai rapinato.
2 O LORD, have pity on us, for you we wait. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of trouble!	2 Signore, pietà di noi che speriamo in te. Sii il nostro braccio ogni mattino e la nostra salvezza al tempo della tribolazione!
3 At the roaring sound, peoples flee; when you rise in your majesty, nations are scattered.	3 Al rumore della minaccia fuggono i popoli, quando ti levi, le nazioni si disperdono.
4 Men gather spoil as caterpillars are gathered up; they rush upon it like the onrush of locusts.	4 La preda si ammucchia come si ammucchiano le cavallette, vi si precipita sopra, come si precipitano le locuste.
5 The LORD is exalted, enthroned on high; he fills Zion with right and justice.	5 Eccelso è il Signore, poiché dimora nell'alto, riempie Sion di diritto e di giustizia.
6 That which makes her seasons lasting, the riches that save her, are wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the LORD is her treasure.	6 Vi sarà sicurezza nei tuoi giorni, ricchezza salutare sarà la saggezza e la conoscenza; il timore del Signore sarà il suo tesoro.
7 See, the men of Ariel cry out in the streets, the messengers of Shalem weep bitterly.	7 Ecco i loro araldi gridano di fuori, i messaggeri di pace piangono amaramente.
8 The highways are desolate, travelers have quit the paths, Covenants are broken, their terms are spurned; yet no man gives it a thought.	8 Le vie sono deserte, non vi sono più passanti sulla strada, si viola il patto, si respingono i testimoni, non si ha riguardo per nessuno.
9 The country languishes in mourning, Lebanon withers with shame; Sharon is like the steppe, Bashan and Carmel are stripped bare.	9 Il paese è in lutto, languisce; il Libano si confonde e intristisce, il Saron è simile ad una steppa, Basan e il Carmelo sono brulli.
10 Now will I rise up, says the LORD, now will I be exalted, now be lifted up.	10 "Ora mi leverò, dice il Signore, ora mi innalzerò, ora mi glorificherò".
11 You conceive dry grass, bring forth stubble; my spirit shall consume you like fire.	11 Voi avete concepito fieno, partorirete paglia; il mio soffio vi divorerà come fuoco.
12 The peoples shall be as in a limekiln, like brushwood cut down for burning in the fire.	12 I popoli saranno fornaci di calce, spini tagliati che sono arsi nel fuoco.
13 Hear, you who are far off, what I have done; you who are near, acknowledge my might.	13 Udite, lontani, ciò che ho fatto e conoscete, o vicini, la mia potenza!
14 On Zion sinners are in dread, trembling grips the impious: "Who of us can live with the consuming fire? who of us can live with the everlasting flames?"	14 In Sion i peccatori sono presi da spavento, un tremore si impossessa degli empi: "Chi di noi resisterà al fuoco divorante, chi di noi resisterà davanti all'ardore perpetuo?".
15 He who practices virtue and speaks honestly, who spurns what is gained by oppression, Brushing his hands free of contact with a bribe, stopping his ears lest he hear of bloodshed, closing his eyes lest he look on evil--	15 Colui che cammina nella giustizia e parla con rettitudine, ripudia il guadagno dell'estorsione, scuote le sue mani per non accettare regali, si tura le orecchie per non udire fatti di sangue, chiude gli occhi per non vedere il male.
16 He shall dwell on the heights, his stronghold shall be the rocky fastness, his food and drink in steady supply.	16 Questi dimorerà in alto, fortezze rocciose saranno il suo rifugio, sarà fornito di pane e la sua acqua è assicurata.
17 Your eyes will see a king in his splendor, they will look upon a vast land.	17 I tuoi occhi contempleranno il re nel suo splendore, vedranno un paese immenso.
18 Your mind will dwell on the terror: "Where is he who counted, where is he who weighed? Where is he who counted the towers?"	18 Il tuo cuore mediterà con terrore: "Dov'è lo scriba? Dov'è colui che pesa? Dov'è colui che conta le torri?".
19 To the people of alien tongue you will look no more, the people of obscure speech, stammering in a language not understood.	19 Non vedrai più un popolo brutale, un popolo dal linguaggio oscuro e incomprensibile, di lingua barbara, che non si comprende.
20 Look to Zion, the city of our festivals; let your eyes see Jerusalem as a quiet abode, a tent not to be struck, Whose pegs will never be pulled up, nor any of its ropes severed.	20 Contempla Sion, la città nelle nostre solennità! I tuoi occhi vedranno Gerusalemme, abitazione pacifica, tenda inamovibile; i suoi piuoli non saranno più rimossi e le sue funi non saranno strappate.
21 In a place of rivers and wide streams on which no boat is rowed, where no majestic ship passes,	21 Al contrario, là è per noi potente il Signore, al pari di fiumi e larghi canali, in cui non circola nave a remi e non passa un naviglio potente.
22 Indeed the LORD will be there with us, majestic; yes, the LORD our judge, the LORD our lawgiver, the LORD our king, he it is who will save us.	22 Poiché il Signore è il nostro giudice, il Signore è il nostro legislatore, il Signore è il nostro re: egli ci salverà.
23 The rigging hangs slack; it cannot hold the mast in place, nor keep the sail spread out. Then the blind will divide great spoils and the lame will carry off the loot.	23 Le tue corde sono rallentate, non tengono diritto l'albero della nave, non dispiegano più le vele. Allora si dividerà un enorme bottino, gli zoppi si dànno alla preda.
24 No one who dwells there will say, "I am sick"; the people who live there will be forgiven their guilt.	24 L'abitante della città non dirà: "Sono infermo", il popolo che vi dimora sarà assolto dalla colpa.
