Sirach 25

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	BIBLIA
1 With three things I am delighted, for they are pleasing to the LORD and to men: Harmony among brethren, friendship among neighbors, and the mutual love of husband and wife.	1 Con tres cosas me adorno y me presento bella ante el Señor y ante los hombres: concordia entre hermanos, amistad entre prójimos, y marido y mujer bien avenidos.
2 Three kinds of men I hate; their manner of life I loathe indeed: A proud pauper, a rich dissembler, and an old man lecherous in his dotage.	2 Mas tres clases de gente odia mi alma, y su vida de indignación me llena: pobre altanero, rico mentiroso, y viejo adúltero, falto de inteligencia.
3 What you have not saved in your youth, how will you acquire in your old age?	3 Si en la juventud no has hecho acopio, ¿cómo vas a encontrar en tu vejez?
4 How becoming to the gray-haired is judgment, and a knowledge of counsel to those on in years!	4 ¡Qué bien sienta el juicio a las canas, a los ancianos el tener consejo!
5 How becoming to the aged is wisdom, understanding and prudence to the venerable!	5 ¡Qué bien parece la sabiduría en los viejos, la reflexión y el consejo en los ilustres!
6 The crown of old men is wide experience; their glory, the fear of the LORD.	6 Corona de los viejos es la mucha experiencia, su orgullo es el temor del Señor.
7 There are nine who come to my mind as blessed, a tenth whom my tongue proclaims: The man who finds joy in his children, and he who lives to see his enemies' downfall.	7 Nueve cosas que imagino tengo por felices en mi corazón, y una décima la diré con mi lengua: el hombre que recibe de sus hijos contento, que ve, en vida, la caída de sus enemigos.
8 Happy is he who dwells with a sensible wife, and he who plows not like a donkey yoked with an ox. Happy is he who sins not with his tongue, and he who serves not his inferior.	8 Feliz quien vive con mujer juiciosa, quien no ara con un buey y un asno, quien no se desliza con su lengua, quien no sirve a amo indigno de él;
9 Happy is he who finds a friend and he who speaks to attentive ears.	9 feliz quien ha encontrado la prudencia, y quien la expone a oídos que escuchan.
10 He who finds wisdom is great indeed, but not greater than he who fears the LORD.	10 ¡Qué grande el que ha encontrado la sabiduría! Mas no aventaja a quien teme al Señor.
11 Fear of the LORD surpasses all else. its possessor is beyond compare.	11 El temor del Señor sobresale por encima de todo, el que lo posee, ¿a quién es comparable?
12 Worst of all wounds is that of the heart, worst of all evils is that of a woman.
13 Worst of all sufferings is that from one's foes, worst of all vengeance is that of one's enemies:	13 ¡Cualquier herida, pero no herida del corazón! ¡cualquier maldad, pero no maldad de mujer!
14 No poison worse than that of a serpent, no venom greater than that of a woman.	14 ¡Cualquier desgracia, pero no desgracia de parte de adversarios! ¡cualquier venganza, pero no venganza de enemigos!
15 With a dragon or a lion I would rather dwell than live with an evil woman.	15 No hay veneno como veneno de serpiente, ni furia como furia de enemigo.
16 Wickedness changes a woman's looks, and makes her sullen as a female bear.	16 Prefiero convivir con león o dragón a convivir con mujer mala.
17 When her husband sits among his neighbors, a bitter sigh escapes him unawares.	17 La maldad de la mujer desfigura su semblante, oscurece su rostro como un oso.
18 There is scarce any evil like that in a woman; may she fall to the lot of the sinner!	18 En medio de sus vecinos se sienta su marido, y sin poder contenerse suspira amargamente.
19 Like a sandy hill to aged feet is a railing wife to a quiet man.	19 Toda malicia es poca junto a la malicia de mujer, ¡que la suerte del pecador caiga sobre ella!
20 Stumble not through woman's beauty, nor be greedy for her wealth;	20 Cuesta arenosa bajo los pies de un viejo, así es la mujer habladora para un marido pacífico.
21 The man is a slave, in disgrace and shame, when a wife supports her husband.	21 No te dejes llevar por belleza de mujer, por mujer no te apasiones.
22 Depressed mind, saddened face, broken heart--this from an evil wife. Feeble hands and quaking knees-- from a wife who brings no happiness to her husband.	22 Blanco de ira, de deshonra y gran vergüenza, eso es la mujer que mantiene a su marido.
23 In woman was sin's beginning, and because of her we all die.	23 Corazón abatido, rostro sombrío, herida del corazón eso es la mujer mala. Manos caídas y rodillas paralizadas, eso es la que no hace feliz a su marido.
24 Allow water no outlet, and be not indulgent to an erring wife.	24 Por la mujer fue el comienzo del pecado, y por causa de ella morimos todos.
25 If she walks not by your side, cut her away from you.	25 No des salida al agua, ni a mujer mala libertad de hablar.
